Our PROTECT Message Center lets you confidently receive and send emails, including attachments with our representatives.

Here’s what makes it so secure: our email encryption service scrambles your personal, financial or confidential information, and then transmits and stores it for up to 90 days in a format that is only accessible to those with the correct User ID and Password.

1.1. You will receive an email from [email protected] inviting you to register for the Message Center.

Please do not reply to this email. In order to ensure that your data is properly protected, you have received a request from your BMO Representative to view a protected message via our online Message Center.

Please note: Once you have registered, any future emails will come directly from your BMO Representative to your regular inbox, with a subject line indicating that a protected message is waiting for you in the Message Center.

1. Register What to do the first time you get a protected email from BMO

1.2. To register, open the email from [email protected] and click on the link to register under STEP 1.

Please note: Registration can only be done from a desktop or laptop computer. After you register, PROTECT emails can be viewed from any device, including desktop, laptop, smartphone or tablet.

1.3. Please provide the following information in order to complete the registration process:

a. Identity: Enter your first and last name and click Next.

b. Security: Enter your new password. Re-enter your password again and click Next.

Please note: The password must contain a minimum of eight characters and at least one uppercase character, one lowercase character and one number.

c. Settings: Select your language preference.

1.4. After you have selected your language preference, click “Register” to finish the registration process. You will see the following message with a hyperlink to log in to see your protected messages.

2. Read How to open a PROTECT email once you have registered

2.1. Depending on which device you are using, click on the corresponding hyperlink. Use the top link for desktop or laptop computer and the bottom link for any other device.

Click on the hyperlinks to read your PROTECT email.

2.2. A page will open asking you to enter your user ID (email address) and password. Once entered, please click on Log in; this will take you to the Message Center.

Double click on the envelope icon to open the message.

An email will be sent to your regular inbox notifying you that you have received a new PROTECT email. To read it, simply log on to the Message Center.

Please do not reply to PROTECT emails from your regular mailbox.

3. Reply How to reply to a PROTECT email you have received

Please note the PROTECT email interactions are limited to you and your BMO Representative(s). You cannot reply, forward or carbon copy to a non-BMO email address.

If you wish to encrypt your reply, please reply from the Message Center. There are two ways you can reply to a PROTECT email:

• Using the Reply button

• Using the Reply All button

For your own protection, please do not reply to PROTECT emails from your regular mailbox. Any messages sent to your BMO Representative from your regular mailbox will not be encrypted, which could put your personal information at risk. Please reply through the Message Center.

4. Compose How to create a new PROTECT email

4.1. To create an encrypted email, click on New Mail within your Message Center.

4.2. Compose a new email to a BMO or BMO Harris Bank email address. You do not need to add [PROTECT] to the subject line — any message, including attachments, sent from the Message Center will be auto-matically encrypted.

Please note: Attachments can be up to 11MB in size.

5. Password Reset Option A – From your profile page

There are two ways you can reset your password. Passwords can only be reset from your computer and not from a mobile device.

5.1. Option A (if you remember your password but want to change it).

5.2. Log in to the Message Center on your computer.

5.3. Click on the Profile button.

5.4. Once in Profile, go to the Security Tab, click on the Modify button, enter your new password and re-enter it. Keep in mind the minimum password requirements.

5.5. After you click on the Save button; the screen will let you know the new profile has been updated.

5.6. Option B (if you have received a new PROTECT email but you cannot remember your password.)

5.7. Click on the hyperlink in the notification message you have received from [email protected]; this takes you to the Message Center.

5.8. On the Message Center page, click on Forgot Password?.

5.9. Enter your email address and click Go.

5.10. You will see a message asking you to check your mailbox for a password reset email. The password reset email will contain a hyperlink to reset your password. This link will expire in one day.

5.11. Please enter your new password on the first line and re-enter your password on the second line. Then click Update.

5.12. You will see a message letting you know that your password has been updated and providing a hyperlink to log in using the new password.

If your account has been locked, please contact your BMO Representative for assistance or wait for four hours and then follow the steps from Option B on page 6.

6. Accessing the Message Center How to access the PROTECT Message Center?

Visit https://securemail.bmofg.com to log in to the Message Center.
