Employee Suggestion Incentive Program

Project Updates

The 2013 Legislature passed SB 2188, increasing the amount a ND state employee can receive for making suggestions that cut costs of state government. The amount increased from $2,000 from $4,000. This program was approved by the 1993 North Dakota state Legislature, NDCC 54-06-24.

Submit your idea on the SFN 19291 Employee Suggestion Incentive program form available from your agency or the Suggestion Incentive Award Committee. The form can be found at http://www.nd.gov/eforms/Doc/sfn19291.pdf

The committee will review your suggestion. If approved, it will be forwarded to your agency administrator, who will make the final decision.

If your idea is approved, you will receive 20% of the first year’s savings realized, up to a maximum of $4,000. The cash award will be received 12 moths after your idea has been implemented.

Submit your recommendations to:

Adam Hamm, Chairman Suggestion Incentive Committee Office of Insurance Commissioner 600 E Boulevard Ave., 5th Fl, Bismarck, ND 58505

If you have any question, comments, or concerns, please contact Adam at (701) 328-2440 or [email protected]

The Department of Labor has announced a proposed increase to the salary threshold for employees to be exempt from overtime laws. The proposed salary threshold will increase from $23,660 per year/$455 per week to $47,476 per year/$913 per week (with some exceptions). This proposed change is anticipated to be effective as of December 1, 2016. In preparation for this change, Human Resources, with input from VPs/Deans/Departments, will re-evaluate positions not meeting the new salary threshold to determine future overtime eligibility.

Human Resources will be presenting basic information regarding how the changes may impact employees at UND; what the new salary threshold means, why a position might change from exempt status to non-exempt status and what that entails. If you, or someone you supervise, could be impacted by the federal law change, or if you would just like to learn more about the changes, please come and join us.

Two information sessions regarding the changes in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be held be held on the following dates:

Pam Zimbelman will be retiring from her position as Operations Center Supervisor after 34 years of service to the University of North Dakota. Pam reminisces about some of her favorite memories and recalls the department dinners in the winter and picnics in the summer,

reassuring they were “what made the department a family”. When asked what she will miss, Pam instantly replies “the people and the friendships over the years”. Pam plans to work part time after retirement and continue to get things done around the house.

Larry Zitzow plans to retire from his position as Director of Facilities after over 43 years of service to the university. His favorite memory from his years of work was the Renovation of the J Lloyd Stone House, because it was such a unique project. Larry and his team completely restored the house

back to it’s original condition, matching each and every part of the house to the previous interior. When asked what he will miss, Larry replies “The people. Watching all of the people grow, becoming pros and experts. Getting to be a part of it; helping improve their profession, it was fun to do. The people really are the fabric of what we are”. Larry plans to stay in town and spend time with his family in Grand Forks. He has 3 children and 6 grandkids to keep him busy. He also plans to hunt and fish with his family, as well as a bit of traveling and spending his winters in the southern sun.

The UND Alumni Association & Foundation and Alerus Financial are partnering to host a reception for the incoming UND President, Mark Kennedy and First Lady Debbie Kennedy on July 13th, 2016. The reception will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Grasberg Community Room at the Gorecki Alumni Center. Appetizers and refreshments will be served.

Our Mission: Facilities Management makes UND Exceptional by committing to fiscal responsibility, outstanding customer service and excellent workmanship, and by delivering clean and comfortable buildings and exterior spaces that are aesthetically pleasing.

Core Value: Excellent Quality of Service

I hope you are all finding time to enjoy the summer weather as the summer seems to pass quickly. Especially when everyone is busy with the usual summer crunch of projects, maintenance, cleaning and housing’s needs. As usual everyone has stepped up to take on these challenges. Your efforts are recognized and appreciated by the entire campus.

There have been many changes so far this summer. We have seen an unprecedented number of retirements from our ranks with more to come shortly. This presents us with a loss of many years of experience collectively of which we cannot get back and their presence will be greatly missed. But it also gives us the opportunity to thank them and appreciate all that they have done for Facilities Management and the University. We wish them all well.

With the departure of AVP Dave Chakraborty it has been necessary to shuffle those duties and a number of individuals have been appointed to interim positions during this transition period. My thanks to all who have agreed to take on bigger roles and responsibilities and I ask that everyone give these individuals your support and patience during this time. It is my hope that the search for a permanent replacement AVP is concluded quickly so everyone can return to their normal duties.

Thanks again for all you do.

All the best,

Mark Johnson

Greetings Colleagues,

1. Keep all clothing light colors. The darker the fabric the more sun it will attract and absorb.

2. Wear clothes that breath. Nothing should be too tight. This will allow fresh air to flow over your skin and help you stay cool.

3. Drink plenty of fluids. Water and Gatorade are two excellent choices. Stay away from sugary sodas and energy drinks. They can speed up the dehydration process.

4. Wear sun block if you are going to be outdoors for an extended period of time. The sun can be very damaging to your skin if it is left unprotected.

5. If you being to feel dizzy, weak or nauseous please take a break immediately. If your symptoms do not go away after getting out of the heat, you should call for medical attention.

6. 10 am till 2pm is when the sun is at its highest point in the sky. It is also when the temperature is at its hottest for the day. Be careful when working outside during these hours and watch for symptoms of heat stroke.
