Introduction

Aluminium "ecause of its low density, hi&h

tensile stren&th and resistance and resistance to corrosion

is widely used for the manufacture of aeroplanes,

automo"iles lawn furniture as well as for aluminium cans.

#ein& &ood conductor of electricity it is used for

transmission of electricity. Aluminium is also used for

ma)in& utensils. The recyclin& of aluminium cans and

other aluminium products is a very positive contri"utionto savin& our natural resources. +ost of the recycled

aluminium is melted and recast into other aluminium

metal products or used in the production of various

aluminium compounds, the most common of which are

Aluminum metal is treated with hot a8ueous 123

solution. Aluminium dissolves as potassium aluminate,

dissolves on addition of small e'cess of 3-26 and

Clean a small piece of scrap aluminium with steel

wool and cut it into very small pieces. Aluminium

foil may "e ta)en instead of scrap aluminium.

Put the small pieces of scrap aluminium or

aluminium foil0a"out

Allow the filtrate to cool. Now add slowly 5 +

3-26until insolu"le Al02349just forms in thesolution.

=ently heat the mi'ture until the Al02349

precipitate dissolves.

Cool the resultin& solution in an ice"ath for a"out

In case crystals do not form the solution may "e

further concentrated and cooled a&ain.
