There are a lot of Belgian actors or actresses. Not all of them are as known as those from America. A lot of them are

ACTORS/ACTRESSES

What Belgian actors earn is far from what for example American actors earn. Each year,

Johnny Depp gets about €58 million. A Belgian actor only €365 thousand. According to a

research, 92% of Flemish actors don’t earn enough money to have a luxurious life. The

most actors/actresses are knwon for playing in series. They even gain less than the

actors/actresses that play in movies. There are plenty of other jobs in Belgium that can make

you richer than being an actor or actress.

There is a lot of humor in Belgium. Stand-up comedians, televion quizzes, talkshows...

There are a lot of known stand-up comedians. Here are some examples: Alex Agnew,

Philippe Geubels, Urbanus, Geert Hoste... They make very good shows. A television quiz I always get a laugh with is ‘De Slimste Mens (Ter Wereld)’. It’s a television quiz about all subjects. There is a presenter, two jurors and

three candidates. The presenter has the funniest laugh ever, the two jurors are always

different but all famous Belgians and the candidates are often famous too. They always

go off topic and it’s every time something funny or dumb.

HUMOR

Here is a part of an episode of ‘De Slimste Mens’:

The presenter asks if anyone can imitate a bird.

One of the jurors says he can and starts. The

first sound he makes is a dove, the second is a

parrot that imitates a dove and the last one is a

cuckoo but he’s not satisfied about himself

beacause it still sounds a bit like a dove.

HUMOR

There are some beautiful Belgian films with a lot of

meaning. Some known directors are: Erik Van Looy,

Stijn Coninckx, Jan Verheyen... They direct

comedies, dramas but also tragedies. I haven’t seen

many Belgian films myself. But the ones I’ve seen, I

really like. Belgian films are barely science-fiction.

There is always some reality in it. Often the films are

emotional or rough. I’ll give some examples of

Belgian films:

‘Spijt’

It’s a film about a boy who is a bit fat and he

gets bullied for that. But not just some

laughs, they really injure and scold him. He

becomes emotionally and physically a wreck

and gives it up eventually.

‘Black’

The latest Belgian film. A big succes. It’s a rough

film about racism between two cultures. A black

girl falls in love with a Moroccan boy. Their love

causes a lot of trouble and the girl has been told

never to see him again but they fight for it so they

can be together. But that has some consequences.
