ProjectAcademicCoordinator:SchoolImprovementProjectAboutPuneCityConnect:The Pune City Connect (PCC), a collective action initiative between Pune MunicipalCorporation (PMC), Pune Corporates and various implementing NGOs, was formedunder the leadership of the Pune Municipal Corporation, is working on creatingsignificant improvements in fourkeyareas,namelyQualityEducation,Livelihoods,Cleanliness&DigitalLiteracyacrossPune.Tostartimplementingthisdevelopmentagenda,particularly inoureffortsto improvethequalityofteachingandlearningprocessesinthePMCrun300-schoolnetwork,PCCEducationTrackstartedworkingwith various stakeholders within and outside the government on two significantprojects over the last 1.5 years – The Shikshak Sahyogi Dal Project & The SchoolImprovementProject(ModelSchoolProject).PMC-PCCSchoolImprovementProject:TheSchool ImprovementProject (SIP) functionswith a network of 15 schools (13Marathi medium and 2 Urdu medium) focusing on creating a holistic learningenvironment for students, through improved teaching learning practices and deepercommunity engagement. SIP Project schools function for longer hours to increasestudent engagement, have specialized staff to engage with communities and haveextremelydedicatedteacherswhoreceiverigorousin-servicecoachingandmentoringsothattheymayimplementbetterteachinglearningpracticesinclassrooms.Using these schools as a benchmark, the project hopes to create a vision for StudentAchievement in schools that is inclusive of efforts of all stakeholders in the schoolsystemandbecomesaspirationalforotherschoolsinthecitytoachieve.Overthenext5years, these 15 schools can then be facilitated tomentor and coach other schools intheirrespectivegeographiestoachievethesamevision.Overthenext10yearstheaimoftheproject istogetall theregionalmediumschools inPunetothisvisionofbetterlearningandhigherstudentattendance&enrollment.PositionSummary:TheSchoolImprovementprojectisahightouchintervention,whichinvolves7partnersintervening in 5 programs in 13 Marathi and 2 Urdu Medium schools. TheProjectAcademicCoordinatorisauniqueroleinthePuneeco-systemthatisanamalgamationof an Assistant School Leader role and a Project Management Role. The PAC inchargeofstudentlearningfor3regionalmediumschools,strivingtointegratepartner
inputs on the ground, operationalizing project objectives, and coaching mentoringschoolstaff.TheroleoffersPACisunparalleledin-depthandscaleimmersionintotheregional medium schools and the chance to coach and mentors school staff acrossgradesandrolesintheschool.Success in this role will mean that the Project Academic Coordinator becomes anintegral part of the school staff, conducting Observation Debrief Cycles and coachingand mentoring conversations daily; that school systems and processes are setup tomaximizelearning;thaton-groundmonitoringandreportingprocessesandsystemsaresetupandmaintained;thatpartnerinputsarereinforcedonthegroundwithfollow-upsessionsandsampleimplementations.Successwillbemeasuredbyfeedbackfromkeystakeholders,projectmilestones,efficiencymetricsandinternalfeedbackmechanisms.Roles&Responsibilities:Responsibilitiesinclude,butarenotlimitedto:TeachingLearningPractices(50%)- Coach&Support thePMC teachers in the schoolby identifying theirdevelopment
needsonaregularbasis- Support the School HM in developing and implementing the 3–year project goals
alignedtoimprovementinlearningoutcomes&schoolenrolment- Strengthenacademicmonitoringofthestudentsthroughremediationinterventions
andspokenEnglishprograms- StrengthentheinterventioninputsatSchoollevelthataregivenbyprojectpartners
throughfollow-upinclassroominstruction/teachinglearningpracticesMonitoring&Operations(30%)- Develop and monitor the annual academic processes for improving teaching and
learninginsidetheclassroomsofPMCmodelschools–thusbeingaccountabletothelearningoutcomesofthechildrenintheschool
- Workcloselywith thePMCofficials&Project teamtocapturemonitor theprojectgoalsdatawithregardtostudentattendance,enrolment&teachereffectiveness
- Create classroom observation and mentoring mechanisms to coach, train andmentortheteachers,alignedtothesupportofpartnerNGO’s
- Drive key input parameters,with the School team& SocialWorker like planning,execution, administration, parent teachermeetings, staffmeetings, RTE alignmentetc.(inaccordancewithPMCrules®ulations)
SchoolCulture(20%)- Buildastrongcultureofsharing,learningandjoyamongtheteachersintheschool,
whoare invested indoing thebest for the children in the school, throughvariousstructurelikeschoolteammeetings,planningmeets,gradelevelgroupsetc
- Identify&focusonbuildingsuccessinatleast3highlyeffectiveschoolimprovementareas,foreg:Readinglibraries,StudentClubs,Assembly,SMC’setc.
Requirements:Knowledge,SkillsandAbilities:
- Beliefthatgovernmentsystemswillchangeforthebettermentofimprovingthelearningoutcomesofstudents,combinedwithanabilitytodeeplyunderstandlocaleducationalcontextofPuneMunicipalSchoolSystem
- Adaptable to changing responsibilities and working with less information inhand,andgiventhenatureofthejob,itneedshighopennesstolearning
- Ability tomulti-task, independently prioritize tasks andwork effectively in aself-starter environment whilst having strong operating instincts, includingbeingveryorganizedanddisciplined

- Bachelor’sdegree is requiredwithaminimumof2-4years’experience in thesocialsector;priorteachingexperienceisamust
