Welcome from the Chairman….
Welcome to Waterlooville Music Festival 2014 - our ninth year. The aim ofthis week is to bring music into St. George’s Church and into the centre ofWaterlooville, for the whole community to enjoy. This year is no exception.Together with Waterlooville Business Association’s “Market Place Music” onthe first day of the Festival, you are invited to over 50 concerts, featuringsoloists, choirs, instrumental groups and orchestras. It’s really good thatonce again local schools are taking part in the Festival. Students areperforming at lunchtimes and in the afternoons and children are invited toworkshops featuring drumming and a morning devoted to song writing foryoung musicians. This year the Festival welcomes for the first time HavantSymphony Orchestra strings and the ladies barbershop singersPitchpipers as well as welcoming back Highbury Area Band andPortsmouth Cathedral’s Consort Choir. On the first Saturday a choircomprising children from a number of local schools is performing - VoicesUnited. It’s particularly good to welcome the children back as the choir issponsored by Waterlooville Music Festival as part of its aim to encouragemusic among young people. A completely new event this year is Saturdayevening’s Party Night with Out of the Shadows playing music from the1960s. The Dragon Jazz Club has moved to Tuesday evening with Friday’sFolk and Ale evening featuring Pompey Pluckers and The BursledonVillage Band. Throughout the week refreshments will be served and eachevening, except Wednesday, there’ll be a real ale bar supported by one ofour local breweries, Bowman’s.
The Festival Organisers are greatly indebted to local businesses andcouncils for their continued support, without which Waterlooville MusicFestival could not continue. The individual sponsors are listed at the end ofthis programme, but special appreciation is given to Allmobility ofWaterlooville, Key’s Newsagents of Highfield Parade and Thistle Wool Shopin Cowplain all of which have hosted the Festival Ticket Offices. Pleasesupport them and the other sponsors whenever possible. As usual HavantBorough Council has been a great supporter of Waterlooville Music Festivaland the organisers express their appreciation.
Thank you for coming to this year’s Waterlooville Music Festival. All themonies taken during the week go towards the cost of staging the Festival -both this year and next. In 2015 the Festival will be June 13th - 21st andthe programme is already being compiled. A band from the RoyalMarines Association will be playing and the Hampshire GuitarOrchestra will be making a welcome return. If you would like to keep upto date with the various groups and individuals being booked, please clickon www.waterloovillemusicfestival.org.uk
I hope you enjoy this week’s Festival and that you’ll come again next year!

The Havant Symphony Orchestra’s reputation as one of the foremostamateur orchestral societies in the country is reflected by theaccolades they have received from the National Federation of MusicSocieties as one of the few ‘Truly Outstanding’ groups in the SouthernRegion and by the Performing Rights Society from whom they havereceived three ‘Awards for Excellence in Programming’.
The Orchestra’s usual venue is Ferneham Hall, Fareham, and as thefull orchestra is too large to be accommodated at the WaterloovilleMusic Festival venue, this performance presents the Orchestra’sstrings section, with a selection of baroque, classical and romanticmusic.
