account of programmes such as felicitations to eminent citizens of the city,
cultural activities organized during the week long official celebrations. It

Sri Sirikonda Madhusudhana Chary, hon'ble Speaker of Telangana State Assembly
visited the Kakatiya University as a part of "Chenchula Tholi Warangal Bata" on
September 1, 2014 along with 76 families belonging to tribal community. A meeting
was organized in the Senate Hall. Speaking as Chief Guest on the occasion Sri
Madhusudhana Chary assured them the benefits of Government schemes. The
main objective of the trip was exposing them to the modern world. He lamented
over the pathetic living conditions of the Chenchus in remotest parts and promised
that he would take all necessary steps for the amelioration of their conditions.

INSPIRE 2014
Kakatiya University organized the five day Internship Science Camp INSPIRE2014 for Intermediate students from August 20-24, 2014. This is the third year in arow that the university conducted this programme sponsored by the DST, Govt. ofIndia. Addressing the students at the inaugural ceremony as chief guest Prof. T. PapiReddy, Chairman, Telangna State Council of Higher Education exhorted the studentsto develop interest in research which is the key for development of the country. Hefurther said that research in basic sciences is of much significance. A lot of preferenceis given to research in life/basic sciences in European countries, he noted. Most of thestudents opting for Engineering and Medicine courses is not desirable as there aremany courses with ample job opportunities. Programmes like INSPIRE are intendedto inculcate the spirit of research in students. He advised the students to set goals andstrive to achieve them. Delivering the keynote address Bhatnagar Awardee and DeputyDirectory of IICT Dr. G. Narahari Sastry advised the students to be creative in theirapproach and work with determination to achieve the set goals. Students should readabout the heroes of Indian Science who excelled in their chosen fields taking themas role models to come up in life, he added. The Second Endowment Lecture in memory of late Dr. K. Jayashankar was
organized at Kakatiya University on August 6, 2013 in the Senate Hall. Sri R.
Vidyasagar Rao, Advisor to Telangana Government on Irrigation was the Chief Guest
and delivered the endowment lecture on "Haritha Telangana-No More a Dream." Sri
Vidyasagar Rao said that the Telangana state government is committed to revive all the
defunct water tanks in villages and augment irrigation facilities. There would be a sea
change in the irrigation scenario as the government has been planning to provide
irrigation to one lakh acres in the next few years, he said. The dream of Haritha
Telangana would be realized with full utilisaton of Godavari and Krishna waters
officially allocated to Telangana State. Recalling his association with Dr. Dr. K.
Jayashankar he said he was driving force behind Telangana movement who had also
been instrumental in keeping the Telangna sentiment alive for about five decades
through his writings and dialogue. University Registrar Prof. K. Sayulu presided over
the Endowment Lecture and Dr. Jayashankar Endowment Lecture Committee members

Kakatiya University in collaborationwith Warangal Urban Policeorganized an awareness programmeto the students on Anti-Ragging onSeptember 23, 2014 in the SenateHall. Addressing the students,Sri A.Venkateshwar Rao,Superintendent of Police, Warangal(Urban) said that Ragging is a crimeand is prohibited under law.Explaining the ramifications ofragging with the help of Power Point
Presentation, he advised the students not to indulge in ragging in any form. There aresevere punishments which include both penalty and imprisonment. He exhorted thesenior students to create a friendly atmosphere to the juniors on the campus . Presidingover the programme University Incharge Registrar Prof. M.V. Ranga Rao condemnedthe barbaric acts of seniors over juniors in the name of ragging which are unethical anduncivilized. Anti-ragging committee Chairman Prof. T. Ravinder Reddy said thatcommittees at various levels have been constituted to curb ragging. University CollegePrincipal Prof N. Rama Swamy, Dy.Superintendent of Police K. Prof.B. Janardhan RaoMemorial Lecture
The 12th Annual Prof. B. Janardhan Rao Memorial Lecture was held on August
23, 2014 in the Senate Hall of the University. Delivering the lecture on "New
Telangana - A People's Resolve" Prof. M. Kodandaram, TJAC Chairman said that
the Telangana Movement has drastically changed the viewpoint of scholars towards
regionalism. Regional movements are usually considered as threat to national
integrity. But the Telangana Statehood movement has brought a totally different
perspective towards nationalism. It has risen above the conventional definitions of
regionalism, he said. He pointed out that an alternate development agenda unique
to the region has emerged in the process of fighting for separate state. Incharge

Kaloji EndowmentLecture
The First Endowment Lecture in memory of Padma Vibhushan Kaloji Narayana
Rao was organized on September 17, 2014. Supreme Court former Judge Justice
B. Sudershan Reddy spoke on the topic "Kaloji and Democracy" in the Senate
Hall of the University. Justice Sudershan Reddy observed that there were many
similarities between Kaloji and Gandhi in terms of ideology and writings as both
kept themselves away from all kinds of political and ideological affiliations. He
explained that Kaloji has written only for people and he believed that the human
rights upheld by the constitution were natural rights of people. Justice Sudershan
Reddy described Kaloji as a great humanist who fought for equality of all and
always fought against exploitation. He wanted the people and the government to
learn from the life and works of the great poet. Prof. M.V. Ranga Rao, Incharge

The Fifth Endowment Lecture in memory of late Dr. K. Balagopal was delivered by
Ms. Shammim Modi, Tata Institute of Social Sciences and Tribal Rights Activist on
October 8, 2014 in the Senate Hall. Speaking on the topic "Tribal Struggles and
Indian State" Ms. Modi alleged that the natural way of living of adivasis was being
spoiled by governments. She said the governments, mainly the police and forest
departments have been depriving the rights of tribal folks. She pointed out that
legislation was utilized by forest and police officials to harass tribals rather to protect
them. She urged the people to fight against Polavaram project that would displace

The fourth Endowment Lecture in memory of late P.V. Narasimha Rao, formerPrime Minister of India was held on December 16, 2014 at Kakatiya University,Warangal. Prof. G.Haragopal, ICSSR, National Fellow and Faculty Member, TISS,Hyderabad spoke on "Knowledge, Politics:Plato's Philosopher King." PV introducedland reforms as he strongly believed that land would bring change in the lives ofpoor people, Prof. Haragopal said. He sacrificed the post of Chief Minister forthis humanitarian cause. Describing PV as a multifaceted personality, he said PV isa politician who is equally proficient in Philosophy, Literature and History. In hisexemplary autobiographical work "The Insider," PV unveiled different facets ofhis life and it should be prescribed as text book for Political Science students, Prof.Haragopal opined. Prof. M.V. A Two day national seminar on"Recent Trends in AnimalBiotechnology" was organized by thezoology department began onNovember 24-25, 2014. Formerdirector of National Institute of AnimalBiotechnology, Hyderabad andUniversity of Hyderabad Professor P.Reddanna inaugurated the seminar aschief guest and also delivered thekeynote address on the seminar topic.
Animal health for Human welfare is the main objective of animal biotechnology. Therehas been a special focus on live stock research to improve productivity of animal basedfood using animal biotechnology, he said. Its main goal is to provide deep insight intohuman and animal diseases for Disease monitoring, Surveillance and Intervention ofdisease, to improve livestock in order to increase the animal products for Meat, Milk,Wool, Leather and to use the animals as bioreactors as Vaccines, Antibodies, ClottingFactors, Pharmaceuticals, he explained. The advances in animal biotechnology is goingto address the needs of food, health and society in general, he noted. Seminar Souvenirwas released. Incharge Registrar Prof. M.V. Rangan Rao, Sceince Faculty Prof. A.Sadanandam, Seminar Organising Secretary Dr. G. Shamitha, Prof. M. Swamy, Prof. Y.Prameela Devi and others were present. Ten invited lectures and 57 papers were presentedduring the sessions.
