How to use Linkedin to maximize your ProVisors experience
Why use Linkedin?
• Over 90 million users worldwide (1/1/11).• Executives from all 2010 Fortune 500
companies are members.• More than one million companies have
Linkedin Company Pages.• There were nearly two billion people
searches on Linkedin in 2010.
Why use Linkedin?
• When Linkedin launched in 2003,
it took 477 days to hit a million members.
• Now, on average, a new member joins every second of every day, or approximately one million every 12 days.
Why use Linkedin?
• Business people who want to find you or check you out use Linkedin.
• Your profile may provide more information than even your web site.
• Your profile may come up higher on Google than any other information about you.
• Your CV, resume, recommendations and connections are all in one place.

Connect• Search your email contacts to find people you already
know who are on Linkedin;
• Connect with your fellow ProVisors members.
Connect
• Accept connections only from people you know well enough to introduce.
• What if someone you don’t know wants to connect with you?
• Continually expand your connections.

• You can search for people you know by school, company or past company
Target
• Invite fellow ProVisors members to connect.• Offer to make introductions for them through
Linkedin. • Ask your ProVisors connections to make
introductions for you…If there’s someone you want to meet, search to see if a fellow member is connected and will introduce you.
Target• Tip for maximizing a troika:• When setting up your troika, arrange to connect
with your fellow troika members on Linkedin.• Ask permission to search their connections and
invite them to search yours.• Come to the troika with a list of people you would
like to be introduced to.• You know who you want to meet, but they may
not realize they have connections who can help you.
Acknowledge
• A recommendation on Linkedin is like a testimonial in ProVisors.
• Writing a recommendation for someone else
increases the chances they will write one for you.
• Your profile link appears in their profile.• You need at least 3 recommendations for your
profile to be considered 100% complete.
Share (and build community)
• Join the ProVisors Group on Linkedin.• Ask and answer questions of your fellow
members; post information.• Engage in discussions to meet members you
might not otherwise get to know…build online relationships.
• Expand your Linkedin and ProVisors networks through the group.

• Always good to include a personal note.

• How to join:• Under “Groups Directory, enter “ProVisors in the “Search” box:

Filtering Your Connections
• You can filter your connections and tag the ones who are fellow ProVisors members.
• You can send an email through Linkedin to those in the filter.
Stay in front of your network
• Your connections receive a weekly summary of the activities in their network.
• Every time you add connections, post a status update, ask or answer a question, update your profile, add an application etc. your connections are notified.
• 10-15 minutes, 2-3x/week keeps your name in front of your network = FREE PR!
Steps to getting started:
• Build your profile - make sure its complete; use key words.
• Build your network by inviting connections.• Expand your network via groups.• Ask for and receive recommendations.• Personalize your page
