September 4, 2018

The mission of Divine Savior Catholic School is to provide a high-quality, personalized, Catholic-based education that inspires and empowers its learners to achieve academic excellence and develops life-long learning skills. Learners are challenged to walk as disciples in the footsteps of Christ valuing knowledge, prayer, and service to others.

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL PRINCIPAL’S LETTER Dear Parents, The 2018-2019 school year begins! We began our year this morning with a special prayer service. Tomorrow we will have a retreat for all students in grades 1-8 focusing on Companions on the Journey. The forecast is for hot weather today and tomorrow. Thankfully we have the new windows which allow for air movement that we didn’t have before. As I mentioned in the last newsletter, the school received a $20,000 donation for those windows from a donor who wishes to remain anonymous. This is a tremendous gift to the school. The students will be writing thank you letters but I would love to include letters of appreciation and gratitude from our parents as well. Please send any cards or notes of thanks to school and I will include them with the student and faculty thank you letters. Last week a special announcement was sent home regarding the Home/School back-to-school night this Thursday, September 6. A bouncy house has been obtained and will be placed on the playground. Pizza will be served at 5:30 and while the parents meet at 6:00, the day care will provide supervision. HOWEVER, we need to know by tomorrow how many from your family will attend. Either print off the notice in this newsletter or use the hard copy given to your children this morning. Also, a VIRTUS class is being held at SS Peter and Paul rectory on Thursday from 6:00-9:30. Unfortunately both events fell on the same date. If you need the VIRTUS class, perhaps one parent could attend the Home/School meeting and the other attend the VIRTUS class. Directions for registration are found in the Family Handbook. I hope you and your child(ren) have a wonderful school year. Please contact the teachers or me whenever you need clarifications or have suggestions. We welcome your involvement and input. Together in Christ, Kerry Sievert FUNDRAISERS

Apple Pie Fundraiser Information 2018

Families of Divine Savior, One of Divine Savior’s biggest fundraisers is our Apple Pie Sale. This year our goal is to sell 5,000 homemade Apple Pies! To accomplish this, we need everyone’s help. There are several ways that families are asked to help. Please read the information below and if you have any questions feel free to email Danielle Ehlenbeck, pie committee chair person.

Page 11: PRINCIPAL’S LETTER - Divine Savior Catholic School · PRINCIPAL’S LETTER . Dear Parents, I hope you have been having a wonderful summer and have been enjoying the nice weather

Selling Pies We ask that each family sell 100+ pies. Pies are $10 each, if sold before production begins and $12 each or 2 for $20 after production begins. When you sell please collect payment for the pies. Checks should be written out to you and when you turn in your order form on September 28th please send one check for the total amount of pies you sold. We will hold your check until October 22, allowing you time to collect payments when you deliver pies. You are responsible for delivery or pick-up of all the pies you sell. Please indicate on the order form if you or the customer will be picking up the pies. It is also important that you write a phone number on the order form, in case some of your pies are not picked up by October 13th and we can contact you. Families who sell 100 or more pies will be entered into a drawing for a $50 scrip gift card of their choice. Working during production Each family is required to work 24 hours during the production of apple pies. There are opportunities on Wednesday, October 10 during the morning for the pre-mix, Thursday, October 11, after school for set-up and all-day Friday and Saturday, October 12 and 13, for production of the pies. These hours can be filled by any high school student or adult. Family and friends can help fulfill your hours. We will have a binder with a page for each family, that you will sign in and sign out of when you work. These hours are what need to be completed to receive your $300 apple pie tuition credit. Sign-up sheets are included with this email. Food for workers During the production days, Friday and Saturday, we provide food for all the workers. Any family who would like to donate items please let Christine Novak know. Food suggestions are; veggies, fruit, beverages, sandwich meat, sausage and cheese trays, donuts, cookies, chips and dip, hot food (BBQ beef, pulled pork etc…) or money to purchase food as needed.

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL PRINCIPAL’S LETTER Dear Parents, The school year is off to good start. Our new students are being welcomed and integrated into the school routines. Mrs. Halfmann has prepared delicious lunches and will be expanding the menu next month. Mrs. Sutilla has been a great resource addition in providing tutoring services. All our returning staff have been working diligently to create a positive classroom environment and provide great learning experiences for the students. Please contact any staff member with concerns or ideas. We welcome your input. The school also has some contracted services with individuals and agencies that are providing tutoring, speech/language services, and occupational therapy through the new Special Needs Scholarship Program. The school received a grant through the Department of Justice and will soon have new classroom doors installed as well as protective coverings on the four gym doors by Fremont Street. Yesterday, I was notified that we are receiving a second grant from the DOJ to include replacement of the two school entrance doors in the breezeway as well as expanding and upgrading the camera surveillance system. In addition, all staff members are completing special trauma awareness training. Next Monday, we are beginning the Fall MAP testing. This Measure of Academic Progress (MAP), is utilized in grades 5K through grade 8. Upon testing completion, students in grades 3-8 will have the test results imported into the Study Island program for a personalized learning path. PLEASE encourage your child(ren) to take their time and put forth their best effort. Picture retakes are scheduled for next Tuesday at 9:00 for those students who missed the Orientation Day in August. If you have questions, please call the school office. The annual Apple Pie fundraiser is rapidly approaching. Thank you to all those involved on the planning committee. This is a major effort and we are very grateful to all those who have taken a leadership role in the project. For new families or anyone unclear about the service hour requirement, please contact the school office for a clarification. Amy will not be in the office the next five school days due to a family event. If you have some time to help supervise the office, please call the school on Monday. Due to Amy’s absence, the next school newsletter will be October 5. The Fall season begins tomorrow. Enjoy the change! Together in Christ, Kerry Sievert

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL PRINCIPAL’S LETTER Dear Parents, The Apple Pie Committee is still accepting pie orders. Please send any remaining orders to the school office. Thank you to everyone for your support of this fundraiser. Speaking of fundraisers, it is also that time of year when we send home the magazine renewal forms. If you or any family members or friends would like to renew a subscription, this is a great opportunity to do so. Any renewals or new sales done now helps the school finances. This year, the company is also adding cookie dough and Christmas wrap to the sale items. Your child is bringing home a packet TODAY that is intended to be used for out-of-town contacts. If your child brings in a completed packet tomorrow with those addresses, he/she will receive a prize. The people listed in this packet will receive an invitation to renew their subscriptions via mail. TOMORROW, the students will receive the magazine sale fliers to bring home. If you have any questions, please call the school office. Today, your child participated in a special presentation on the rosary. He/she will be bringing home information encouraging your family to prayer this devotional in a special way. Next Wednesday is the field trip to the new Dairy Center for grades 4K-8. Students will need to pack a cold lunch. PLEASE MAKE SURE ALL CONTAINERS AND UTENSILS ARE DISPOSABLE. Lunches should be in a paper lunch bag with the student’s name clearly visible. We are at the mid-quarter point of the first quarter. When checking your child’s grades on Power School, if you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher. Your child was given the parent access information a couple of weeks ago. If he/she neglected to give it to you and no longer has it, please let us know. The Green Bay Diocese is asking all parents in our Catholic Schools to complete a survey form. The link follows: https://form.jotform.com/82614757525160. Together in Christ, Kerry Sievert REMINDERS All SCHOOL payments should be given to your child’s teacher. All DAYCARE payments should be put in the locked box in the daycare.

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL PRINCIPAL’S LETTER Dear Parents, MAP test results (grades 5K-8) were sent home yesterday. If your child didn’t give it to you, please ask. For any questions you may have, contact your child’s teacher or me to explain the report. Within the next week or two, students in grades 3-8 will have their test data entered into Study Island and a specific personalized learning path will be generated for them. Also, yesterday you should have received an invitation from me via Sign-Up Genius to sign up for parent/teacher conferences next month. If you didn’t receive it, please let me know as soon as possible so I can resend it to you. The Christian Leadership Council has planned some fun day activities for next week. The special days are found in this newsletter. Children may wear their Halloween costumes to school next Thursday, but the costume must comply with our dress code. Swords and other weapons are not allowed in school, even if part of a costume. School is not in session next week Friday due to a scheduled in-service day. The staff will be working on additions to the school safety plan. For planning purposes, the Christmas program will be Thursday, December 6 at 6:00. All students in 3K-8 will be participating. Together in Christ, Kerry Sievert NOTES AND REMINDERS

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL PRINCIPAL’S LETTER Dear Parents, The students did a wonderful job at Mass on Thursday. The readers, singers, and those participating in the entrance ritual represented our school well for those in attendance at St. Ann. On Friday, All Souls’ Day, we remembered our loved ones who have died by praying for all those written in our Book of Remembrance. For those who are new to the school or those who have forgotten, outside of the office we keep a binder with names of loved ones who have passed on. If your child would like to add someone’s name, additional sheets are available to be completed. Just a reminder that the first quarter ends on Wednesday. If your child is missing work or needs to complete any retests, they have two more days to do so. Please check Power School. Next week, 12-16 November, auditors will again be visiting the school to verify records and financial procedures. The audit that was completed this summer found no irregularities in the financial operation of the school and we finished the year in the black. A condition of the safety grant we received from the Department of Justice was that one teacher attend a two-day training. Diane Cherney graciously offered to attend and will be out of school on November 12-13. She in turn, will be required to train the other staff members. If you have not yet registered for parent/teacher conferences, please do so as soon as possible. If you have any difficulty with the Sign-up Genius form, please let me know. I am part of an accreditation team this week and am out of school today and tomorrow. For those who ordered cookie dough last month, please note it will be delivered on November 15. Please pick up the order at dismissal. If you are unable to be here then, please let us know as soon as possible because we will have to find a place to keep it frozen. Thanks! Together in Christ, Kerry Sievert

EVENTS Dear Parents, Nov. 16th is, “National Teddy Bear Day!” The Christian Leadership Council is planning a special day for the students. We will conduct a food drive in conjunction with this special day. The food will be our Thanksgiving food donation to the Kiel Food Pantry. Last year we donated the food collected to the New Holstein Pantry.

To bring in a teddy bear / stuffed animal, they need to donate 1 food item. To wear pajamas, they need to bring in a second food item. Finally, to bring in a SMALL blanket, they need to bring in a third food item.

Please bring in the food items by Nov. 12th to Mrs. Jelinek’s classroom. The CLC students will fill out a form with how many food items each student brings in and what they are able to have or wear on Nov. 16th. This form will be given to their classroom teachers.

If a student wears his/her pj’s without having handed in the food items, they will be considered as having a dress code violation.

Remember, this event is to help the less fortunate in our community.

God Bless Your Generosity,

CLC (Christian Leadership Council)

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

PRINCIPAL’S LETTER Dear Parents, It has come to my attention that some families are not receiving the newsletter on a regular basis. We have identified a problem with a switch in the server that is apparently causing some on again/off again issues. If you don’t receive a newsletter, please check the website to read it and then notify us of any problems. Your child is bringing home his/her report card TODAY. You should also be receiving a reminder from Sign-Up Genius that conferences are scheduled Tuesday evening. We look forward to meeting with you. School is not in session on Wednesday as we begin our Thanksgiving vacation. We have much to be grateful for. On behalf of the faculty, I would like to extend to you our wishes for a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration. Don’t forget to mark your calendar for the Christmas program on December 6 at 6:00. Due to the short week next week, the next newsletter will be sent home on November 30. Together in Christ, Kerry Sievert

November 30, 2018 The mission of Divine Savior Catholic

Learners are challenged to walk as disciples in the footsteps of Christ valuing knowledge, prayer, and service to others.

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

PRINCIPAL’S LETTER Dear Parents, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration with your family. We now can turn our attention to Advent and Christmas. Our daily prayer gatherings and Tuesday liturgies will now focus on the Advent for the next three weeks. The Christian Leadership Council (CLC) has organized a gift collection program for needy children. A flier designed by eighth grader Xavier Piper is included with this newsletter. Our annual Christmas program is Thursday, December 6 at 6:00. The band will perform and singing will be provided by the 3K and 4K-8. Thank you to Sister Elizabeth, Mr. Pierce, and Mrs. Schultz for their work in organizing this production. The Board of Trustees met this past week with an open floor period scheduled. Another such open floor meeting will be held on January 15 at 6:15. Anyone wishing to speak to the board is welcome to attend. (Please note that this meeting replaces the normal January 22 meeting.) With the winter season upon us, I want to review our school closing and dismissal procedures. The details are found on page 11 of the Family Handbook. Please listen to the media announcements regarding school delays and closings. IF EITHER NEW HOLSTEIN OR KIEL IS CLOSED, Divine Savior School is closed. In the case of delays, follow the directives of the district in which you reside. In the event that only one district delays but not the other, we will open as normal and the students from the delayed district will arrive late. In the event of an early dismissal, our procedure has been to contact all families to ensure that they know their child is coming home early. Sending an e-mail to let us know you have heard the early dismissal announcement would help facilitate this contact process. If you have any questions or need clarification, please don’t hesitate to contact us. This past week we practiced our lockdown procedure. There are other aspects of the school safety plan that will require additional practice. These practices help us to work on unexpected or unplanned aspects of the safety protocols. Everyone did a nice job. Our intention for future drills will be to announce the date and time of the drill. During a lockdown, no one will be admitted to the building nor allowed to leave. If you wish to read our complete school safety plan, let me know. It has been reviewed and approved by Chief Funkhouser of the Kiel Police Department. The Board of Trustees reviewed the report of this week’s drill and approved the results. Following the drill, I asked the students if they had any thoughts or suggestions of how we might improve. One of the kindergarteners

suggested we just post a sign on the door saying “No one is here.” 😊 Don’t you wish everything were that easy! Happy Advent! We’ll see you at the concert on Thursday. Together in Christ, Kerry Sievert

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

PRINCIPAL’S LETTER Dear Parents, “For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6) This message of Isaiah was given to the people thousands of years ago and on Christmas day just over 2000 years ago, God kept his promise. This child, Jesus, changed our world and us. This child, Jesus, is the focal point of our Christmas celebration. This child, Jesus, is the reason for Divine Savior School. For as our mission statement indicates, we teach our children to walk in His footsteps. Our Advent season has provided the students with opportunities for daily Advent prayers, reconciliation, and service to others. We trust they have been prepared to celebrate the birth of Christ next week. On behalf of the school staff, I want to extend to you and your family our wishes for a blessed and joyous Christmas celebration. Classes resume on January 2. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Kerry Sievert

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL Dear Parents, If you are paying attention to the public-school calendar, you may have noticed that Kiel Public Schools are dismissing early next week Thursday and are out of school on Friday. THAT IS NOT THE CASE FOR DIVINE SAVIOR SCHOOL. We will be having the regular 3:00 dismissal on Thursday and we will be in session next week Friday. Parents of band students, please note that lessons next week will be on Monday instead of Tuesday. Your child may need a reminder to bring his/her instrument on Monday. Thanks. I am pleased to announce that Ashley Morgen will be our new academic aide. She began work today. Lent begins on March 6 with the Ash Wednesday liturgy. Students in grades 1-8 will have a Mardi Gras and prayer retreat on Tuesday, March 5. During Lent, beginning with March 8, students will pray the Stations of the Cross at 2:15. Please join us if you are able. MAP testing is now complete. Students will be bringing home the results on MONDAY. Please look for it. Thank you once again to everyone who helped make our basketball tournament a success! Together in Christ, Kerry Sievert

NOTES AND EVENTS

BOWLING UPDATE Unfortunately, we were unlucky and missed two of our scheduled bowling nights. We will be making these days up on Thursday, February 28th and Thursday, March 7th. March 7th will be the night including pizza. Please have the children wear their bowling shirts if you remember. If you are waiting on a shirt, we do have them ordered. Thanks and let me know if you have any questions. Sarah Ninmer

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents, Our celebration of the Stations of the Cross began today (2:15). The students do a wonderful job leading this prayer. Please join us if you can. Our Lenten almsgiving project is off to a great start. We have collected over $160 thus far for the bridge project in Honduras. Thank you for supporting your children with this collection. Representatives from Camp Tekakwitha (our Diocesan camp) will be speaking with the students next week Tuesday. They will probably be bringing home some materials for you to read. If you know of anyone looking for a job (full or part-time) please inform them that our Day Care is always in need of more help. Mrs. Juedes, our director, can also use volunteers as well. An hour or two per week rocking babies would be a great contribution! Just call the school office (894-3533). Mark your calendars for our Spring Concert. It will be held on Wednesday, May 22 at 6:00. We are using it to honor those who serve our community and country. Please invite any members of the military (current or veteran) or any of community emergency personnel (police, firefighters, and EMTs) to attend this concert which will pay tribute to their service. We would appreciate having a call to the office informing us of who is attending so that we can plan accordingly. Together in Christ, Kerry Sievert

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents, Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Our 4K and 5K students had a visit from a naughty leprechaun last evening who made quite a mess of their classroom! Your child is bringing home a T-shirt order form which we need back by next week Wednesday. We will be ordering a T-shirt for your child to wear at our Spring program. Next week Tuesday, all students are asked to wear their school polo shirts. Pictures will be taken for use at the school’s auction next month. Just a reminder that anyone wishing to participate in the CHOICE program, must complete the DPI on-line registration form as well as the school’s registration material. The deadline is rapidly approaching. If you have any questions regarding eligibility for the CHOICE program, please give me a call. I would like to remind you that if your income level changes, application for free and reduced lunch can be made at any time. The DPI completed an audit of the hot lunch program this week. One requirement we need to comply with is updating our school’s healthy lifestyle policy. The current policy can be found in your Family Handbook. We would love to have some parent input into the policy changes. If you would be interested in serving on such a committee, please let me know as soon as possible. Together in Christ, Kerry Sievert

Dear Parents, Current CHOICE families and anyone new wishing to be included in the CHOICE program must complete the on-line DPI application within the next 2-3 weeks AS WELL AS the school application form. If you have any questions, please contact me. If you have not yet completed the 2019-2020 registration form, please do so this coming week to avoid the increased tuition payment. The third quarter ends March 29. Report cards will be sent home on April 3. Don’t forget to mark your calendar for the school auction to be held on April 6 at the Altona. We hope to see everyone there. We all owe the planning committee a huge THANK YOU for their many months of work planning and organizing this annual fundraiser. Thank you to the parents that have spent the past couple of weeks in school working on auction projects with the students. Any parents wishing to work on a review of the school’s wellness plan should call the school office. The DPI is requiring revisions and would like parent input on the plan. The Community Bridge project for our Lenten almsgiving has now exceeded $600. Thank you for encouraging your child’s support. They are very excited to see the number of bridges grow each day by completing bridge drawings for each $5.00 collected. The doors and walls are being covered quickly! March 29, 2019

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents, Today is the end of the third quarter. Last week, I indicated in my letter that report cards would be sent home next week Wednesday. That is incorrect. The report cards will be sent home next week Friday, April 5. Monday is April 1. The Christian Leadership Council thought it would be a good April Fool’s Day activity to have students dress up like a teacher. I wonder about the connection there!!!! For Mass on Tuesday, the second-grade class has a skit they are doing as part of the introduction to the liturgy. Due to the length of the skit, this introduction will begin at 7:55. The Spring MAP tests will begin on Monday, April 1. Please encourage your child to do his/her best. While this is only one indication of learning, we monitor these results closely to ensure student growth. This newsletter also contains the school calendar for 2019-2020. All those who registered for the CHOICE program will have verifications completed next week. All students entering 4K, 5K, grade 1 or are new to the school are eligible for the program if parents meet the financial eligibility. If you meet this qualification, please contact me for further information. Likewise, if you know of someone who might be interested in the school and would qualify, please pass along this information. Family Size Single Income Married Income 2 $36,212 3 $45,716 $52,716 4 $55,220 $62,220 5 $64,724 $71,724 6 $74,228 $81,228 We need to have all verifications completed before Easter vacation so apply ASAP. Mark your calendars for the Spring concert on May 22 at 6:00. The program will be a tribute to military veterans, firefighters and EMTs, and law enforcement officers. If you know someone in these service areas, please invite them to attend and let us know so we have an idea of the number of guests. Also, if you, as parent, are one of these people, let us know that as well. And don’t forget to attend the auction on April 6. It will be another fantastic event! Together in Christ, Kerry Sievert

NOTES AND EVENTS

Auction is still in need of help! We are only one week away! If you can help in any way, please contact Jeff or Dawn Voland at (920)894-7061. We need help during the evening hours or clean-up help starting at 9 p.m. ATTENTION SCHOOL FAMILIES: The allotted ticket packets that were sent home, need to be returned no later than Tuesday, April 2 to the School Office. Cash and ticket stubs must be accounted for. Thank you, your co-operation is appreciated.

A Knight of creative crusades looks forward to seeing you on April 6th!!!

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents, Fantastic News! We were notified this week that eighth grader Gretchen Augustine placed first in the 2019 Manitowoc County Literary Competition. Her winning book was then submitted to the State level competition where she won second place. Gretchen joins an impressive list of winners from Divine Savior School. Congratulations Gretchen! And we would be remiss in not acknowledging the fantastic work Mrs. Jelinek does with the language arts program which has produced county and state winners for many, many years now. Thank you Mrs. J. Report cards are being sent home TODAY. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher(s). April Pereira has done a wonderful job this year working with the literacy component of our language arts curriculum. She recently attended an in-service regarding a special reading program developed by Scholastic, Inc. This newsletter contains a letter from her detailing the program and offering your child an opportunity to a four-week summer school program that we are proud to offer here at Divine Savior School. Next week is Tornado Awareness Week in Wisconsin. We will be participating in a state-wide drill on Thursday afternoon. Parents are encouraged to practice a severe weather drill in their homes as well. Next week Friday is the final Stations of the Cross for this Lenten season. Our students have done a wonderful job leading this prayer. If you are able, please consider joining us at 2:15. See you at tomorrow’s auction! Together in Christ, Kerry Sievert

NOTES AND EVENTS

Dear Parents:

Have you ever heard of the summer backslide? Research has shown that children lose some

of their reading and writing abilities over the summer. They return in the fall and many must re-learn

some of the basic skills to move onto grade level requirements. Research done by Kim and White

(2011) show that fourth grade students who read 5-8 books over the summer gained 80

lexile’s while students who read 1 or no books lost 50 lexile’s.

I attended a conference featuring Pam Allyn. Pam is an author (Every Child a Super Reader),

and an advocate for Literacy for children. She is the founding director of LitWorld, a global literacy

initiative. LitWorld and Scholastic have teamed up a created LitCamp, a summer literacy program.

I am excited to announce that I would like to run a Litcamp here at Divine Savior this summer.

The Camp is a 4-week program. This Camp is intended for children of all reading abilities. The 2 ½

hour day would start with a 15 min. Welcome/Opening, next 25min.Read aloud, then 20 min. to bring

Page 78: PRINCIPAL’S LETTER - Divine Savior Catholic School · PRINCIPAL’S LETTER . Dear Parents, I hope you have been having a wonderful summer and have been enjoying the nice weather

text to life (acting, puppets), followed by 25 min. talking about the story elements, then 20 min.

independent reading, next 15 Snapshot play (listening games), of course 15min. for writing power,

ending with Closing campfire😊.

• This is a Monday thru Friday week • The camp would run from July 15th through August 9th. • Grades K -2nd would run 9:00 to 11:30 (limit 8 students 1st come 1st served) • Grades 3rd – 5th would run 12:30 – 3:00 (limit 10 students 1st come 1st served) • Cost is $150 for the program and is due when registering. A refund will be given if I do not

get a minimum of 5 for the morning AND 5 for the afternoon. • Sorry there is no daily rate, so a refund will not be given for any missed days. • Registration due: Wednesday, April 17th (sorry for the quick date, materials must be

ordered soon)

If you have any questions, please free feel to email me at [email protected] Mrs. Pereira (aka Miss April) Literacy Coach

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents, We had another successful auction last Saturday. Thank you to everyone for organizing, helping, and participating. As the chairpersons, Jeff and Dawn Voland deserve a great deal of appreciation for all of their work in directing this fundraiser. A couple of weeks ago, I invited any interested parents that wanted to review the Wellness Policy to join a committee. That committee is meeting at 12:15 on Tuesday, April 23. If would like to review this policy, please let me know or just come and join in. Last week, you received an invitation from Mrs. Pereira for your child to be part of a summer reading program. There are just a few spots left. Therefore, if you are interested, please contact April and send your payment to her on Monday. The invitation is being placed in this weekend’s bulletin opening the program up to any interested parishioner. Since this is a first come-first serve activity, if you want to guarantee your child’s spot, please do so soon. (Checks should be made payable to April Pereira, not the school.)(A copy of last week info is in the Notes and Events section of this newsletter) Next week concludes our Lenten observances. We will celebrate a Seder Meal on Wednesday at 11:00. If you wish to join us, please let us know on Monday. The cost of an adult meal is $3.55. Also, next Wednesday is the conclusion of our Lenten almsgiving project. Our bridge project collection at this point is $764 – quite impressive. May you and your family have a blessed Easter celebration! Together in Christ, Kerry Sievert

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents, Happy Easter! For fifty days now we will celebrate the Resurrection. Our daily prayers and weekly liturgy will focus on this great event of our faith. Most of the first and second grade girls wanted to be in the Church choir and cantor for Mass, so our Easter season choir is comprised on these girls. Their first time was this past week and they did an awesome job! We strive to get every class and every student involved in various liturgical roles each week. Students in grades 3-8 are trained as servers if they are interested. The older students were our canters and choir at the start of the school year. Then students from grades 3-5 took the musical lead though Holy Week. Students proclaim the Scripture, write and read the prayers of the faithful, read the introduction, and present the gifts. Please encourage your child to be actively involved. Some questions have been asked about the concert and the last day of school, so to clarify………… ….. The Spring concert is WEDNESDAY, May 22 at 6:00. This will be a patriotic tribute to current and past military personnel, police/sheriff, and firefighters/EMTs. Please invite any of these people that you know and contact the school office so we can make appropriate plans. ….. Graduation is Tuesday, June 4 at 6:00. …… Our last day of class is Wednesday, June 5. Our closing liturgy will be at 8:00. Dismissal will be at 3:00. The public schools have added the additional hour to make up snow days. The public schools are also in session June 6. The New Holstein Public Schools are dismissing at 3:00 on Wednesday, May 29 to make up snow days. Kiel will dismiss at 2:00 as usual. We will keep the New Holstein students until the bus pick-up at 2:45. Several terms expire this year on the Board of Trustees (our school board). We are in need of a representative from all three parishes. If you are interested in serving on the Board, please notify me of your interest. Terms are for three years. Meetings are held the fourth Tuesday of the month. The role of board members is to develop policies, monitor the finances, and assist with marketing. All board members serve on one of three standing committees: policy, marketing, and finance. The final tally for the Lenten almsgiving project was $1003.80. Thank you for supporting your child’s effort to help raise funds for the bridge project. This total is quite impressive! And finally, your child (5K-8) is bringing home the Spring MAP test results TODAY. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your child’s teacher or me for an explanation of the report. Together in Christ, Kerry Sievert

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents, I would like to take this opportunity to recognize and congratulate our students who are making their First Holy Communion this year: Madeline Augustine, Loretta Bink, Colton Bonde, Hunter Bonde, Jaksin Hoffman, Clare Meyer, Jaelyn Neils, Madalyn Novak, Clay Rautmann, Kami Schaefer, Barrett Schaeuble, Madeline Schisel, Ryleigh Schneider, Deidre Schuler, Raya Theel, and Gavyn Voland. These students will be wearing their communion clothing to Mass next week Tuesday as they celebrate together and lead the assembly in a May Crowning ceremony. Our Spring Concert is rapidly approaching (May 22 at 6:00). If you have any military, police, or fire department personnel attending our program, please contact the school office with names so we can plan accordingly. Students will be wearing the patriotic theme t-shirts we ordered earlier this year. They will be putting them on prior to the performance. All students should wear blue jeans that are in good condition (no gems, holes, or rips). Jeans should not be stone-washed or other colors. A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents, I am proud to announce some more achievements for our students. Every year the Serra Club sponsors a diocesan-wide essay contest dealing with vocations. We have the winner in the girls’ competition this year: Anna Guetzke. The selection committee noted that Anna expressed herself clearly and answered the question of the essay with faith and joy. They went on to note “What a blessing it is to have you in the Catholic Church!” Anna will receive a $50 check from Bishop RIcken and Vocations Director, Fr. Mark Mleziva at a banquet in Green Bay on May 14. We also had two runner-up essay writers: Gretchen Augustine in the girls’ competition and Xavier Piper for the boys. Xavier won the diocesan contest last year. Congratulations to Anna, Gretchen, and Xavier. Our students in grades 6-8 have been working with Mrs. Morgen on producing the school’s Yearbook. It is ready to go to the printer. All students in 3K through Grade 8 are featured in the yearbook. Included with this newsletter is a preliminary order form. Without knowing the quantity, the price is not yet finalized but we expect it to be between $10-$12. Please complete the form indicating the number of books you anticipate purchasing or send an email to school with the number. When we get the exact price from the printer, we will send home another form to place an order, at which time payment will need to be made. Happy Mothers’ Day! Together in Christ, Kerry Sievert

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents, Our Spring Concert is next week Wednesday, May 22 at 6:00. The students are to wear clean, non-ripped, faded, or studded blue jeans or blue pants. We have T-shirts at school that they will wear. Students are asked to report to their classroom at 5:40. They will change into their shirts at that time. The shirt they are changing out of will be brought home on Thursday. The T-shirts are for your child to keep. If you arrive prior to 5:40, please have your child sit with you in Church until then. If your child has a jacket, please keep it with you in Church. Looking ahead……… ….. Reminder for New Holstein district residents that New Holstein students will be dismissed at 2:45 on May 29 instead of the usual 1:45. ….. On Friday, May 31, Mrs. Novak will be having a student science display and presentation of projects they have worked on during the year. The work will be set up in the gym and be available for viewing after 7:30. At 8:00, the students will be with their work and explaining or demonstrating what they have done. If you are free that Friday morning, please consider viewing this student work. Mrs. Novak has a listing of the projects in this newsletter. ….. The last day of school is Wednesday June 5. The day will begin with Mass at 8:00. Mrs. Gozdziewski will conduct a field day in the morning for the younger students and another session for the older students in the afternoon. School will be dismissed at 3:00. The auction raised funds to replace the flooring in one of the classrooms and the parish planned to replace another one. We have also received a generous donation that will allow us to do additional floor replacement and also add additional wiring and outlets to the classrooms. This will require some manpower in moving furniture and classroom items. If you have some time to spare this summer, please let us know when you might be available. If your availability coincides with the workers’ and custodial schedules, we might call you for your assistance. Your help is greatly appreciated. See you at the concert next week! Together in Christ, Kerry Sievert

A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents, It’s hard to believe there are only seven days left in this school year. It seems like classes just begun! We are proud of the many accomplishments and growth of our students during the year. Keep them reading and writing this summer! Two auction items were an ice cream party and principal for the day. These will occur next week Tuesday, May 28. Grant Lisowe will be

the principal of the day. If you have a school item you wish to discuss, feel free to give him a call! 😊 Grades 3-5 and 4K will have the ice cream/recess party that afternoon. Another reminder for New Holstein district parents: The bus pickup for your child(ren) will be at 2:45 instead of the usual 1:45. And don’t forget to check out the Science Expo on Friday morning. Next week Friday, May 31, your child will be bringing home the Orientation Day packet for the 2019-2020 school year. There are many items included in that packet so please read it carefully. If you have any questions, please give us a call. (New families for next year that don’t have a current student here will have the packet mailed.) For the upcoming school year, Mrs. Binversie will be the third-grade homeroom teacher and Mrs. Holst will be the homeroom teacher for grades four and five. We will have a new 3K teacher next year. Mrs. Andrea Freund, a SSPP parishioner and early childhood teacher with ten years of experience will be joining the faculty. We appreciate Lindsay Schultz’s service this year and wish her and her new addition to the family the best! The Franciscan Sisters are not having Sr. Elizabeth return next year as music teacher. Mrs. Rodriguez will also not be returning as Spanish teacher. We wish them the best in their future endeavors. As I mentioned in last week’s newsletter, we will be replacing many classroom floors this summer. That means there will be a lot of furniture and classroom supplies that need to be moved. We would really appreciate some muscle if you have any time. Just drop us a note saying when you would be available. If your availability matches a time when moving will be done, we’ll give you a call. Our final three days of school will include the 7/8 class trip on Monday, June 3. On Tuesday, June 4 at 6:00 our eighth graders will be graduating. Everyone is welcome to celebrate with them. On Wednesday, June 5 we will celebrate our closing liturgy for the year at 8:00 followed by a “graduation” program for grades 4K/5K. Mrs. Gozdziewski will be having a field day for the students and students will pack up for the summer and will also be bringing home their report card. Please look for it! Congratulations to our graduates: Gretchen Augustine, Anna Guetzke, Jayden Heller, and Xavier Piper. These are four incredible young people who we will greatly miss. They have been outstanding role models. Their service and academic achievements are commendable. We wish them well in their future education and career. May you have a wonderful summer vacation. The staff is looking forward to seeing you at various events throughout the summer and then on Orientation Day, August 26. Together in Christ, Kerry Sievert
