riage difficulties, loss of em-ployment, family issues, debt, illness, etc. When we are in themiddle of a problem we are soconfused or afraid that we can’tsee the solution. But just be-cause we don’t see the answerright away doesn’t mean Allahhasn’t written it for us. If wemaintain our faith in Allah evenwhen we are in trouble, then wecan rest assured that there is asolution. In Chapter 94 of theHoly Qur’an, Allah promisesthat with every difficulty thereis ease. This surah was revealedin Mecca when the ProphetMuhammad (S.A.W) was ex-periencing strong oppositionfrom his own blood relatives ashe was preaching the onenessof God. Allah comforts him andeven repeats it for emphasis:
with every hardship comesease. We can also be com-forted by Allah’s promise. So here we are having aproblem, we have faith inAllah, and we know He haspromised that with everydifficulty there is relief. What steps should we taketo console ourselves andsolve our problem? In theHoly Qur’an, Allah tells usexactly what to do: Be pa-tient, pray, and give char-ity. In 2:153, Allah says “Oyou who have attained tofaith! Seek aid in steadfastpatience and prayer: for, be-hold, God is with thosewho are patient in adver-sity.” Pray two rakats to tellAllah exactly what youwant and to seek His guid-ance. Say “You are my Cre-ator. I have a problem thatonly You can solve. Myproblem is in Your hands.
Please remove my sufferingand if what I want isn’t goodfor me then give me whatpleases You.” Recognize thateverything belongs to Allah, and ask Allah for help. Thereare words from the Qur’anthat Muslims say when some-one dies: “To Allah we belongand to Allah we return.” Butthese words are not only forwhen someone dies, becausewhile living we all experienceproblems. In 2:155 – 157 Al-lah says, “And most certainlyshall We try you by means ofdanger, and hunger, and lossof worldly goods, of lives andof labor’s fruits. But give gladtidings unto those who are pa-tient in adversity – who, whencalamity befalls them, say, Ver-ily, unto God do we belongand, verily, unto Him we shallreturn.

Style of the Qur‘an - The Quran doesnot contain law in the codified form. The
reason is that it is not merely a Book of Law. It governs thewhole of human life in a very wholesome manner. It con-vinces man to submit to God‘s Sovereignty and persuadeshim to liberate himself from the other bonds. It narrates whathappened in the past with those who did so and those whodid not. It tells him by its own reasoning his origin and hisfuture. It lays down laws at the proper places and points out,as well, that the legislative powers have been delegated tothe Prophet (peace be upon him) also. Iqbal says, “Its mainpurpose, as I have said before, it to awaken in man the higherconsciousness of his relation with God and theUniverse.”(Reconstruction of Religious Thought in Islam,p,165) In the words of Edmand Burke: “It is most copiouson marriage and divorce, most precise in rules of inheritance, and if compared to Christianity (Bible), possesses far greatervitality and responsibility instead of being arbitrary and des-potic It has true democratic characteristics in form and sub-stance.” (Speeches, Vol.I,p,104)

SUPERNATURAL JEWS&
SUPERNATURAL MUSLIMSI recently became familiar with a book titledThe Golem and the Jinni written by authorHelene Wecker. The book tells the story of
two medieval supernatural beings that immigrate to New YorkCity at the turn of the twentieth century. The Muslim commu-nity is certainly familiar with the concept of the “jinni.” InJewish tradition a “golem” is a statue made of clay that a rabbibrought to life and was destined to become a guardian angel ofa human master. The premise of this book is that two humantravelers—one Muslim and one Jewish, both planned to moveto America. However, in both cases the human beings died andthe Golem and the Jinni both found themselves without thehumans to which they had been bound. These entities thenwere forced to wander the streets of New York City in theearly 1900’s. Each had to navigate the confusing new city in anew land, having been transplanted from their original cultures, and each had the additional burden of having to do so not merelyas cultural transplants but also as supernatural entities that couldnot connect to other human beings. In my opinion the book isa metaphor for the relationship not only between immigrantsand the new world but between the Jewish and Muslim immi-grant communities.

Assalamu Alaikum: Alhamdulillah, the Islamic New Year 1434began on November 5th, and we have also entered the NewYear 2014 according to the Gregorian calendar. A NewYear….new beginnings…new hope…new plans, better out-comes, better days, better months, better quality of life, betterhealth, better personal finances, better things overall; this iswhat we all look forward to when there is a fresh beginning.Although each year is a continuation of the previous, we see itas “new”. At the beginning of each New Year, we all pray andhope that Allah (SWT) blesses us with more positive changesin our lives and pray that He protects us from harsh tests andtrials. Because He is the best of planners, as stated in the Quran, which is our source of inspiration, hope and optimism. “Andobey Allah (SWT) and the Messenger Muhammad (SAW) thatyou may obtain mercy. Be quick in the race for forgivenessfrom your Lord, and for a Garden (paradise) whose width isthat of the heavens and of the earth, prepared for the righteous– Those who spend (freely), whether in prosperity or in adver-sity, who restrain (their) anger and pardon (all) men – for Godloves those who do good.” Qur’an:3:132-134 “When my ser-vants ask thee (O, Muhammad) concerning Me, tell them I amindeed close (to them).

Our HEART Beats around 100,00 times ev-ery day. Our BLOOD is On A 60,000-milejourney. Our EYES can distinguish upto onemillion colour surfaces and take in more
information than the largest telescope known to man. Our lungsinhale over two million litres of air every day, without eventhinking. They are large enough to cover a tennis court. Ourhearing is so sensitive it can distinguish between hundreds ofthousands of different sounds. Our sense of touch is morerefined than any device ever created. Our brain is more com-plex than the most powerful computer and has over 100 billionnerve cells. We give birth to 100 billion red cells every day. When we touch something, we send a message to our brain at124 mph. We have over 600 muscles. We exercise at least 30muscles when we smile. We are about 70 percent water. Wemake one liter of saliva a day. Our nose is our personal air-conditioning system: It warms cold air, cools hot air and filtersimpurities. In one square inch of our hand we have nine feet ofblood vessels, 600 pain sensors, 9000 nerve endings, 36 heatsensors and 75 pressure sensors. We have copper, zinc, co-balt, calcium, manganese, phosphates, nickel and silicon in ourbodies.
DID YOU THANK YOUR CREATOR TODAY?WORSHIP THE CREATOR, NOT HIS CREATIONS
MAKE DUAS FOR OUR SUCCESS
The following is an explanation taken fromthe source ‘Sunnats’ regarding the above
“Dua is the kernel of ibadat {worship}.”Prophet Muhammad {S.A.W.}
hadith {saying of Prophet Muhammad} {S.A.W.}: “In a nut, that which is within the shell is the main part and what is reallysought by the person who eats. This is the kernel and it is thatwhich has value.” In layman terms, dua is essentially a suppli-cation made to Allah requesting of Him to grant us favours thatwe so desire. It is imperative that Muslims turn to Allah forassistance because we are always in need of His help. If wefail to supplicate to Allah, we will inevitably incur His wrath.Prophet Muhammad {S.A.W.} attested to this displeasure whenhe said: “Whosoever does not ask of Allah, He becomes angrywith that person.” We should be fortunate to be afforded theopportunity to make a dua. This, because, when in the act ofmaking such, we subordinate everything to Allah. Our subor-dination gives recognition to Him as the sole being worthy ofworship. No one can help us but Allah. He is our only Pro-vider. When we supplicate to Allah, He gets a clear picture ofwhom His righteous and humble servants are. Allah will seeour humility as unquestionable testimony of our allegiance toHim. This meekness will surely put Muslims in good stead inthe court of Allah on Judgement Day. A dua can be made forone’s self or someone else.

Controlling your Tongueis
The Real Test of Faith
How easy it is to say mean andhurtful things to another and howabsolutely impossible it becomesto take those words back? Haveyou ever pondered this? If not,now is the time you must beforeyou go around hurting peoplewithout realizing the damagingeffect of your actions on your lifeand life of others. For one, it mustbe known that a believer is notonly someone who believes in Al-lah and His prophets, a believeris someone who truly protects hisbrother from hurt caused byhand or tongue. You may havesome control over your hands butit is the control you exercise onyour tongue that completes yourfaith. So many times peoplewould find a reason to belittle an-other simply to put them down. They may say it directly or indi-rectly but either way the intentis to be spiteful. That intent is notoverlooked by Allah and you mustunderstand that when He saysthat, “Whether you conceal whatis in your hearts or bring it intothe open, God knows it.” (Al-Imran 3:29) then it is not aboutyour prayers alone, instead it isabout each and every action andthat intent hiding behind them. Soimagine what if He came to youand disclosed that intent in frontof you, how would you react? Will you be happy because it wasindeed pure or will you beashamed and embarrassed be-cause you spitefulness nowstands exposed. Think about itbefore you go ahead and saysomething hurtful.

Butit might have grave consequences [24/15-16]
15. Ascertain the truth of any news, lest you smite someone inignorance and afterwards repent of what you did [49/6]16. Do not follow blindly any information of which you haveno direct knowledge. (Using your faculties of perception andconception) you must verify it for yourself. In the Court ofyour Lord, you will be held accountable for your hearing, sight, and the faculty of reasoning [17/36]. 17. Do not make mockery of others or ridicule others [49/11] 18. Do not defame others [49/11] 19. Do not insult others by nicknames [49/11] 20. Avoid suspicion and guesswork. Suspicion and guessworkmight deplete your communal energy [49/12] 21. Spy not upon one another [49/12]22. Do not back-bite one another [49/12]23. Be nice to people who work under your care. [4/36] 24. You should enjoin right conduct on others but mend yourown ways first. Actions speak louder than words. You mustfirst practice good deeds yourself, then preach [2/44] 25. Correct yourself and your families first [before trying tocorrect others] [66/6]26. Do not try to impress people on account of self-proclaimedvirtues [53/32]27. Divert and sublimate your anger and potentially virulentemotions to creative energy, and become a source of tranquil-ity and comfort to people [3/134]

Dr. Mohsin Jaffer
WHOLE GRAINWHOLE GRAINWHOLE GRAINWHOLE GRAINWHOLE GRAINWhat’s the differencebetween whole grainsand refined grains?Any foods made withrice, oats, wheat, cornmeal or cereal, are part of the grainsgroup. Breads, cere-als, oatmeal, pasta,
and tortillas are all made from grain prod-ucts. Whole grains contain the entiregrain kernel, the bran (fiber), the germ, the endosperm (the starchy part). Thesewhole grain components are rich in vi-tamins and minerals. Examples of wholegrains include whole wheat flour, oatmeal, and brown rice. Refined grains have beenmilled and processed to give them finertexture and an extended shelf life. How-ever, this process removes much of thefiber as well as many vitamins and min-erals the body needs. Examples of re-fined grains include white flour, whitebread, and white rice. Why are wholegrains better for your health? It has longbeen known that eating whole grains isimportant because whole grains containmostly fiber, an important element in di-gestive health. Fiber has important vita-mins and minerals. It also helps with con-stipation, bloating, some bowel diseases, and contains plant antioxidants. Recently, studies have shown that eating morewhole grains may help with loweringcholesterol, maintaining insulin control, slowing plaque build-up in arteries, man-aging weight, and some cancers. How doI get more whole grains in my diet? Thedietary guidelines recommend increasingwhole grains by choosing whole grainbreads, bran cereals, whole wheat pastaand brown rice. The American Academyof Nutrition and Dietetics recommendsat least three servings of whole grainsevery day. Be sure to check the foodlabel and ingredients. Choose foods thatname one of the following ingredients firston the ingredient list: whole wheat, brownrice, oatmeal, whole cornmeal, crackedwheat, graham flour, whole barley, andwhole rye.

Santa Claus at our Heartland Hospice Staff Holidayparty this afternoon. I have loved “playing” SantaClaus over the years. To see the eyes of childrenopen wide with excitement, hope and anticipationat the thought that they actually have the opportu-nity to sit, speak and perhaps even request some-thing special from Santa. There is no doubt thatour modern “interpretation” of this half mythical;half real figure has undergone much detrimentalcommercialization. Nonetheless, for some, this fig-ure continues to bring thoughts of hope, good willand contentment during this time of year. Fromwhere does this figure of SANTA CLAUS get itsorigin? The modern image of Santa Claus comesfrom the Dutch figure of Sinterklauss, which tracesits roots to the Christianization of Germanic Eu-rope and the imposition of the real figure of St.Nicholas.(A 4th Century Greek Christian Bishop fromMyra—present day Turkey.) Saint Nicholas has
also been referred toas Father Christmasand Kris Kringle. (De-pending upon culturalinterpretations andtranslations.) As thestory goes, St Nicho-las of Myra was avery holy and dedi-cated priest andbishop, who knewthe many needs of thepeople in his area.Supposedly therewere 3 impoverisheddaughters of a piousChristian who werenot able to marry be-cause they did nothave the dowries(Money to bring to themarriage) necessaryat that time in history.

DA’WAH TRIP TO NORTH CAROLINA
Knowing that their not being able tomarry would result in their becom-ing prostitutes, St. Nicholas anony-mously gifted each daughter withenough gold pieces to enter in to theirmarriage contracts. As some storiesshare, the last daughter found her goldpieces in her “Stockings that werehung by the chimney to dry.” (A tra-dition that many families continue tothis day—and excited children findmany “goodies” in their stockings onChristmas morning.) St. Nicholaswas also well known for his love ofand charity towards children of hisday, especially the poor and orphaned. While there may be many “commer-cializations” of this cherished figure, there can be no doubt that for many,he represents the understanding oftrue charity, that we must be readyto give and in such giving we receivetremendous blessings. As ProphetMohammed (Peace be upon him)once said, “Feed the hungry and visitthe sick person, and free the captive,if he be unjustly confined. Assist anyperson oppressed, whether Muslimor non-Muslim.” My sister oncewrote a beautiful poem entitled, “TheKneeling Santa.” In it she depictsSanta Claus’ annual ride through theskies with his reindeer, blessing chil-dren of “all ages” with their Christ-mas presents. At one point duringhis journey, he sees and follows aBRIGHT LIGHT which leads him tothe stable where the CHRIST CHILDwas born. Santa kneels at the footof the crib, and humbly removes hishat, as he offers a prayer to the Mes-siah who has brought hope to a hurt-ing world. We have many images, many stories, many traditions that arepracticed within the multiple religionsof our transitory world. If such astory/tradition can lift us up and leadus forward, may Our Gracious Goduse it to God’s Glory and oursalvation..Amen!

Assalamu Alaikum, my name is Sister Carmenand I’m a proud revert to this beautiful reli-gion and way of life, Islam. Many years agoI reverted to this faith by a true calling of thespirit. You see, it was only in my early twen-ties when I began to question what path mylife was going on. I was already a marriedwoman with children, but I had no real con-nection to God. Growing up my family spentcountless hours in church on Sunday morn-ings. We spent countless evenings at massservices but I never really felt the connec-

tion to the church or to God I thought I was always entitled to feelas a believing person. That void, that indescribable emptiness thatI had in my heart followed me for years. Ironically, my first mar-riage failed as I began to search for my religious freedom. As Ibegan to search for my spiritual path, as I began to question whythe faith I had come to know all these years left me feeling con-fused about who God was, about why he had a son, and why itseemed his would be son as I have now come to know as Esa(A.S), was receiving all these accolades and praises as if he werethe Almighty. I felt lost, confused, and saddened. I was scared ofthe church. I wasn’t afraid of what it was meant to represent, rather, I was afraid of the message it was sending to me. Therewere lots of hypocrisies, confusions, power, and judgment that Ifelt clearly was not something I wanted to continue to be a part of.
My brothers and sisters I only speak from my own experi-ence but when I realized, Al-Hamdulillaah that what I alreadybelieved in was out there in the world for me to find, I be-came whole. My search started with simple religious teach-ings and learning of what the world’s religions were about.

I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when hecalleth on Me. So let them obey Me and believe inMe, so that they may be led aright”. Qur’an:2:186“The Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W) said: “Charityis prescribed for each descendant of Adam everyday the sun rises.” He was then asked: “From whatdo we give charity every day?” The Prophet an-swered, “there are many doors to goodness. (Say-ing) ‘glory to God,’ ‘praise be to God,’ ‘there is nodeity but God,’ enjoining good, forbidding evil, re-moving harm from the road, listening to the deaf(until you understand them), leading the blind, guid-ing one to the object of his need, hurrying with thestrength of one’s legs to one in sorrow who is ask-ing for help, and supporting the weak with thestrength of one’s arms – all of these are (forms of)charity prescribed for you.” Prophet Muhammad(S.A.W) in Fiqh-us-Sunnah, Volume 3, Number 98.The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be uponhim) said:

The image of Jews and Mus-lims being natural enemies isa modern phenomenon basedon current geopolitical reali-ties. Such hostilities fre-quently did not occur in thepast. Those loyal to Judaismand those loyal to Islam notonly are not natural enemiesbut the difficulties we havefaced in recent years cannotbe said to be the norm. In-deed, for centuries both reli-gions respected each other, the people of each religion re-spected each other and the re-ligious leaders respected eachother as well. In communi-ties where Jews and Muslimscoexisted for hundreds ofyears Jewish would extendreverence to Imams, Ayatol-lahs and Shaikhs, while Mus-lims granted reverence toRabbis. Even today oftenthose who are committed toreligion tend to be more re-spectful of other peoples’ re-ligions because religiouspeople know what religionmeans. Someone who re-spects his or her own holyspace will tend to respect theholy space of other religionsas well. In the early twentiethcentury immigrant Jews andimmigrant Muslims had stron-ger bonds. They shared theimmigrant experience of be-ing uprooted from a traditionalsociety and transplanted to a

They ex-perienced being culturallyand religiously a minority. They experienced beingtreated like outsiders andfeeling like outsiders. Thatcreated bonds of under-standing that other membersof the community did notfully understand. The bookto which I referred serves asa metaphor for those relation-ships. But more so, it servesas a model of hope. The hos-tility of one people to anotheris not a function of religion. It is a function of politicalconflicts, and a function ofthose who abuse power. Those who truly and with apure heart serve God do notlet disputes become oppor-tunities for violence and ha-tred. That cannot possiblybe what God would want.Instead, The Golem and theJinni becomes a message ofhope that because once upona time Jews and Muslimsfound themselves sharing acommon bond of shared ex-periences, that once again inthe future there will be theopportunity again for suchrelationships. And at thattime, having a rabbi write ina monthly Muslim magazinewill no longer be an extraor-dinary occurrence. Rather, the relationships between ourcommunities will be one inwhich people will come tosee such relationships as thenorm.

This is the saying of a wisewoman: “People are often unrea-sonable, illogical, and self-cen-tered; forgive them anyway. Ifyou are kind, people may accuseyou of selfish, ulterior motives;be kind anyway. If you are suc-cessful, you will win some falsefriends and some true enemies;succeed anyway. If you are hon-est and frank, people may cheatyou; be honest and frank anyway. What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight;build anyway. If you find seren-ity and happiness, they may bejealous; be happy anyway. Thegood you do today, people willoften forget tomorrow; do goodanyway. Give the world the bestyou have, and it may never beenough; Give the world the bestyou’ve got anyway. You see, inthe final analysis, it is between youand God; It was never betweenyou and them anyway.” All ofthese are words of inspiration forus, because we all need remind-ers. Allah (SWT) is always root-ing for us to succeed in this lifeand to gain Jannah. He gives usall the positive advice in the Quranon how to succeed. Let us findour inspiration in His book and letus build on the faith that He hasinstilled in us, so that we may findthe betterment we are looking forand in the final analysis, do deedsthat are pleasing to Allah (SWT)which will bring satisfaction intoour hearts.

Nevertheless, whomsoever weare beseeching for, utmost sin-cerity in our pleading is of para-mount importance. Failure onour path to be true in our sup-plication, Allah will be reluctantto respond to our call. A note-worthy point worth mentioningis that we should request in ourdua that which is good. Nevershould we ask Allah for a favourthat would put someone in aprecarious position in life. Forexample, we should not in ourdua plead to Allah to render aperson homeless. This sort ofthinking reeks of inhumanityand nonetheless a recipe for thesupplicant’s fall to disgrace.Never for once think that whenwe make a dua to Allah, it fallson deaf ears. Allah categori-cally states in 2:186 ofAl’Quran, “I listen to the prayerof every supplicant when hecalleth on Me. No Muslimshould be left in a quandary asto the importance of a dua, forthe following is another sayingby Prophet Muhammad{S.A.W.} that strongly states:“Without doubt, duas assist inthe removal of those difficul-ties which have already de-scended and also helps inwarding off hardships. There-fore, O slaves of Allah! Keepmaking dua.” The ball is nowin our court. Let us continueto make dua {supplication} toAllah to render us free from anysuffering.

senger of Allah said to ‘Abbas ibn ‘Abdal-Mutalib: “O ‘Abbas,O Uncle, shall I not give you, shall I not present to you, shallI not donate to you, shall I not tell you ten things which, ifyou do, Allah will forgive your first and last sins, past andpresent sins, intentional and unintentional sins, private andpublic sins? The ten actions are: pray four rak’at, reciting inevery rak’ah al-Fatihah and a surah. And when you finish theQur’anic recitation of the first rak’ah, say, while standing,‘Subhanallah, al-hamdulillah, wa la ilaha illallah, wa AllahuAkbar’ [‘Glory be to Allah. All praise is due to Allah. There isno God except Allah. Allah is the greatest.’] fifteen times. Then make ruku’, and while you are in ruku’, say the sameten times; then stand, and say the same ten times. Then godown and make sajdah, and while you’re in sajdah, say thesame ten times. Then sit after the sajdah, and say the sameten times. Then make sajdah, and say the same ten times. Then sit after the second sajdah, and say the same anotherten times. That is seventy-five [repetitions of the phrases] ineach rak’ah. Do that in each of the four rak’at. If you canpray it once a day, do so. If you cannot, then once everyFriday. If you cannot do that, then once a year. And if youcannot do that then once in your life.” This is related by AbuDawud, Ibn Majah, Ibn Khuzaimah in his sahih, and at-Tabarani. About this hadith al-Mundhiri says: “This hadithhas been related through many chains and from a number ofcompanions. The best of them is this one from ‘Ikrimah. Agroup of scholars have graded it to be sahih, including al-Hafez Abu Bakr al-’Ajari, (al-Mundhiri’s teachers), AbuMuhammad ‘Abdurrahim al-Misri, and Abu al-Hassan al-Maqdisi.” Ibn alMubarak says: “The tasbih prayer is a greatlydesired act and it is desirable that one should punctually ob-serve it and never neglect it.

Controlling your Tongueis
The Real Test of Faith
Continued from Page 12
Can you hold your tongue for thesake of Allah? If you can, thenindeed you have won a majorbattle. There are people whowould read Quran for most partof the day and not forget theirsalah but when it comes to at-tacking someone, their tongueknows no bounds. They woulduse abusive language freely as ifit didn’t mean anything. Theywould hurt others just for theheck of it and act like they arebeing very smart because theycan get their way by being ex-cessively offensive and abusive. In the end, they live a very un-happy life and they cause a greatdeal of pain to others as well. These people can never in a mil-lion years understand that theirlong recitation of Quran does notmatter as much as one kind wordspoken to another for the sake ofAllah. The true spirit of Islam islargely ignored under plethora ofwords and lectures. People withleast amount of control over theirtongues would speak excessivelyon everything from respecting
your parents to being kind to oth-ers. But when the same peopleare required to show some re-morse for their actions, whenthey are in a position where theymust hold their tongue, they knownothing about it. They cannot re-strain themselves from saying themost spiteful thing directly or in-directly just because an opportu-nity presented itself. In short, focus on ikhlaq (manners) firstand foremost while you are try-ing to be a better Muslim. Thereare things between you and Allahand then there are matters involv-ing other people and while Allahmay forgive mistakes and errorsin the former area, He will notforgive injury caused to others bytongue or otherwise unless thatperson forgives first. In any case,do not forget that Allah will holdyou accountable and when Hedoes, He will also avenge thewrongdoing in a way you leastexpected. So please instead offocusing on the negative, try see-ing the positive in another per-son and you may lose that urgeto say something spiteful whichyou might regret later and whichcertainly would affect your rela-tionship with the person forever.

success. In 57:9 of the HolyQur’an we learn “It is Allahwho sends down clear signsto His servants, to get out ofdarkness and toward the Light.I will give you the Light.” In57:28, Allah says “O you whohave attained to faith! Remainconscious of God, and believein His Messenger (S.A.W),and He will grant you doublyof His grace, and will light foryou a light wherein you shallwalk, and will forgive you: forGod is much-forgiving, a dis-penser of grace.” This meansthat when we fulfill our dutyto Allah (pray, give charity, fast, etc.) and do it now evenduring difficulties, Allah willgive us double rewards, bet-ter than what we suffered. Hewill establish a Light for us towalk on, a spiritual path. AndAllah will forgive us. Givingcharity when times are goodcan prevent calamities in thefuture, and giving charity dur-ing hard times shows Allah ourdeep trust in Him. We arepromised double rewards andHis Light and Mercy. In sum-mary, very often a difficultyis a pathway to more successin our life. Allah always has asolution that we can’t imag-ine when we are stuck pon-dering our problems. Be pa-tient, pray, give charity. Ac-knowledge that to Allah webelong and to Allah we willreturn. Remember Allah’spromise that with every hard-ship there is relief. At the endof the day, everything beginsand ends with Allah.

As I found Islam, I met peoplealong the way who were Mus-lim. People who I argued withabout different teachings and mis-understandings that I read abouton the internet and in books aboutIslam, to this day, I thank thosepeople because there outlook andtheir honesty helped me to viewIslam for the beauty it is, for itsentirety, for its peace, and for itslove. I took a lot of pain frommy immediate family when I re-verted to Islam but it did not stiflethe joy and the peace my heartfelt as I tried to learn how to pray,as I worked on Adab, and as Itaught my children. My family
has since rejoined me and allpraises to Allah (S.W.T), theyaccept me, my children, and myhusband. They accept my reli-gion with respect. They honorprayer times; they are respectfulduring Ramadan and join us forIftaar, Maashaa Allaah.
