RATİONALE

The present paper is the product of the European project Prevention of

Discrimination and violence against women, Grundtvig partnership, 2010-2012,

by which we intend to share experiences and information gained through its

implementation.

Our intention is to support all women with an informative, educational and /

or preventive purpose.

Violence against women worldwide, is accepted almost as an act almost

legitimate. Regardless of economic status, race and such factors. Violence against

women is an important phenomenon that occurs due to unequal power relations

between men and women.

Improving the status of the women can only be possible when they know their

place that they deserve in daily life. By directing these women to the social

foundations and have them involved in effective activities; we can get the women

know and be aware of their responsibilities towards themselves and the society.

The project meetings have supported the discussions on the topic of violence

and represented a platform allowing us to compare the phenomenon in the partner

countries. The activities have been applying questionnaires, organising

seminars, preparing the dissemination items e.g.brochures,posters, publishing the

present book and creating a website.

5

PROJECT OBJECTIVES For this project, our objectives are:

to promote women's participation in the production process, and fightthe

inequalities on economic structures;

to provide support mechanisms for the development of women;

to cooperate with Social Services Agency and prepare questionnaires.

to organise informational meetings for womenwho suffer from violence in

order to raisetheir awareness and train the women in receiving guidance and

counseling.

to organise in-service training courses for women under risk will be organized

by the partners.

To reach wider potential, media and press will support the issue and raise the

awareness in the society (by ICT,media, brochures etc.)

Bulletin will be prepared after workshops in each country common portal will

be formed in web site.

to publish a book in all languages of partners about the informaion gathered

in the project development.

The first project meeting between the partners was between 7th and 11th

March 2011 in Tecuci, Romania. We presented our scholar institution, the human and material resources and of the products of our educational process; One of the activities was an international essay contest – LET’S PRAISE THE WOMAN, essays describing the woman from the perspective of the three different partners, since it was 8th of March, the International Women's Day;

Then we had an introduction to Romanian traditions – traditional folk dances and folk songs, thus promoting Romanian traditions and culture.In addition the partners had presentations, an introduction of the country, area and organisation - PowerPoint/Microsoft Word presentations. A short review of the project – its objectives, suggestions of extra activities and of the final project products.Moreover we included an official work meeting at Tecuci City Hall with the mayor, representatives of the press, the police and the local community;

As an example of good practice in preventing and solving issues of abused and discriminated women, our programme included a work meeting at FAMILY F0UNDATION (in Galati county), a shelter for abused women. The second example of good practice was presented within a work meeting at the women’s shelter of The Red Cross in Focsani.

The work meeting of the partners was finalised through asking the Polish and Turkish teams to fill in an evaluation sheet of the project activities unfolded in Romania, the aim of this survey being to bring teams together and find out their opinion to better evaluate the meeting and to ensure a good communication between the partners. At the end of the work meeting in Romania all the partners received certificates of attendance.

After the departure of our project partners we disseminated the gathered information and experience through newspaper articles, brochures. We have also compiled all the PowerPoint materials from all our partners on C.D.-s and registered them in our school’s library to make the information accessible to all our students and teachers. We have also made our project visible and accessible to the public by setting up a web site with information about the project, its objectives and activities: www.gsit.ro/grundtvig/Pagini/default.aspx.

Based on these realities, the partners agreed to conduct a training course for

women in order to inform, educate and prevent any discrimination and domestic

violence.

The course was conducted in two sessions, attended by 45 women from the

local community, the education area, which in turn disseminated the information in

the classes of counseling and guidance.

The materials used for the course had as a starting point a structure built by

the coordinators, under the following form:

Session 1:

“GETTING ACQUAINTED”

Opening and introducing the course

Getting friendly

Expectations of the participants

Purposes and goals of the course,

35

Course programme

Rules of the course

Evaluations previous to the course

GETTING FRIENDLY

“Being a woman” (Dreams and actuality): What we want and what we face as women?

A part to let the participants to express their problems and find commonalities among each other.

Writing down the things everyone says in categories and talking about them afterwards would always

invoke a sense of unitedness. .. Let the participants express themselves.

CONCLUSIONS

At the end of the two years of the project, we can say that, in addition to

the experience with an European character we managed through the activities

included in the mobilities’ program and the events organized by each institution in his

own country, to stir up the interest among women on this phenomenon which tends

to expand, motivating them to respond and make use of the rights conferred by

legislation on domestic violence.

Unfortunately, in our country, there is little legislative levers, shelters for abused

women and a low-level informational support in the media and low living standards,

poor education, lead most women to endure discrimination and acts of violence.

We believe that through our activities we managed to raise awareness among

women in our community, to prevent and combat violence against women, showing

them the legislative steps that must be followed if they are victims or witnesses of

abuse of any nature.

Therefore, all things considered, we can say that we achieved the objectives

set at the beginning of the project and hope that through these experiences, we can

help all our readers, presenting interest for the topic of discrimination and violence

against women.
