Prevent Computer Eye Strain
Computer eye strain is not the end of the world, nor is it the end of your career. In fact, it is an extremely frequent problem in the
office work force and affects almost everyone who constantly stares at a screen. This form of strained eyes can make your days
feel longer and harder than they need to be because it causes headaches, sore and tired eyes among other annoying symptoms.
Your eye muscles are being worked so hard that they struggle to focus and your eyes can become itchy, dry, watery or blurred.
You can lose concentration and this can affect your career.
Although there is no secret medication or treatment for this type of strain, there are ways to prevent it from happening and lessen
the severity of the symptoms. Read on to find out more about how to avoid eye strain.
The Secrets on How to Avoid Computer Eye Strain
1. Use eye drops - one of the easiest way to get rid of those flaky, itchy, dry and burning eyes that can be caused by eye strain
is by using an over the counter eye drop medication. A couple squirts into each eye throughout the day and your eyes will be
back lubricated.
2. Blink often - if you do not like the idea of using eye drops, then think about blinking constantly throughout the day. This may
seem silly but according to experts, when you are using a computer (or looking at any other item for long periods of time), you
will blink five times less than what is considered normal. This can result in strain on your eyes. Making the effort to blink often
and keep your eyes moisturized throughout the day is one of the most simple eye strain treatments you can try.
3. Readjust your office - consider re modeling your office to avoid computer eye strain. If you are facing a window that projects
a lot of glare from the sun, make a switch to a different position. You can also look into ergonomically friendly keyboards that
will help with your posture. Also, make sure your monitor is at the right eye level and consider moving it back a few inches
during the day to help keep your eyes focused on the task at hand.
4. Talk to your optometrist - a visit to your eye doctor every two years is recommended. Make an appointment for a regular
check up and see what your eye doctor has to say about treatment for strained eyes. Your eye strain could be a result of a
different eye problem or you may need eye glasses which can correct, or at least reduce, the problem.
5. Rest your eyes - perhaps the easiest treatment for computer eye strain is to simply rest and relax your eyes. You will need
to allow your eyes to focus on something else throughout the day to keep them fresh and alert on the task on the computer
screen. Aim for a 15 second break every 15 minutes to stare off into space, or a 5 minute break every hour to do another task
around the office.
6. Invest in buying Computer Glasses – These computer glasses will eliminate the constant refocusing effort that the eyes
go through when viewing the screen and address all the symptoms of CVS. Computer eyeglasses increase comfort during
computer use, and recent studies have shown that they can increase computer worker productivity, with cost savings to
employers who provide the eyewear.
