Over the years, Spain’s furnishing brands have been strengthening their presence in

China and the Far East by participating at premier interior and design events, such as the

Furniture China in Shanghai, and by developing new commercial networks and opening

their own showrooms in renowned furniture malls of main cities, like the Home Value,

the Yuexing Furniture Group, the AUSEN IDC and the JSWB Center in Shanghai.

Now in its 4th participation, MUEBLE DE ESPAÑA returns to China, bringing to Shanghai a

hand-picked selection of Spanish companies that will be showcasing in Hall W1 their

Founded in the 70s, the Yecla-based MARCELO IBAÑEZ

has become a key reference within the Spanish market

as a manufacturer of tables and chairs, specializing in

dining room and kitchen furniture for home and

contract use. The firm has always strived to catch up

with trends and constantly introduce new products.

This year is, in Shanghai, the firm will launch a new line

of chairs, tables and sideboards made of solid beech

wood or a choice of walnut and oak veneers. Inspired to

The concept at the heart of the Twist project is that

of giving movement and space to such a cold and

inanimate material as aluminium. Nature has been

the main source of inspiration, especially creeping

plants with their climbing, curved stems. To

achieve this result, aluminium tubes have been

handmade curved paying a lot of attention to

details.

As for upholstery, SKYLINE DESIGN’s ranges offer

the best 100% eco-friendly, all weather-proof and

maintenance free fabrics (Batyline, Sunbrella, Serge

Ferrari…).

A positive balance

What a great journey for Spanish furniture companies this year! After a successful

participation in Imm Cologne, Maison & Objet Paris, the Stockholm Furniture Fair, Interior

Mebel Kiev, Hábitat Valencia, I Saloni Milano, HDExpo Las Vegas, ICFF New York and the

Index Dubai, they set foot again in Asia, exhibiting at Furniture China 2014 in Shanghai.

But the travel around the world of our brands doesn’t stop here, as we have much in store

to grow the presence of MUEBLE DE ESPAÑA in emerging economies…

A lot of B2B and trade missions are scheduled on our agenda (Ghana, the Ivory Coast,

India, South Africa, Russia…), as well as the participation in other major international

events: EspritMeuble Paris, Maison Objet and I Saloni Moscow. Main target: conquering

new markets and bringing the excellence of MUEBLE DE ESPAÑA all over the world. Figures

are encouraging, as you can see…

Spain’s main markets

for furnishing

products

Final figures for 2013 indicate that Spain’s exports of furniture have increased by

+15.4% over the previous year’s figures, amounting to 1,603 million euros at the end of

the year.

Rich in styles and ranges and with a unique emotional approach, Furniture from Spain

has consolidated its presence in EU countries: France, Portugal, Germany and the

United Kingdom, which rank 1st to 4th among Spain’s major markets.

Exports have increased significantly in most of the top ten importers. In 2013, sales to

the United Kingdom has increased by +32.7%, while exports to Russia are up by

+37.6% and to The Netherlands by an impressive +103.6%.


A positive balance

Three Far East countries – India, China and Japan – appear among the top 50 destination

markets for Spanish furnishing products, with India ranking 30th and purchases from Spain

amounting to 7.3 million euros (+56.7%). China has slightly reduced its imports of furniture from

Spain; nevertheless, with purchases amounting to 6.5 million euros, it comes soon after India at

the 33rd place. Export to Japan have increased by 3.5%, amounting now to 5.9 million euros. As

for other countries, good results have also been registered in Thailand, Indonesia, Hong Kong

and the Filipinas.

In the MENA region, exports to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, wich ranks 10th and

15th, have increased by +22.1% and +12.6% respectively, but good results have been also

registered in Morocco (+2%), Turkey (+69.7%), Qatar (+69%) and Algeria (+33.3%).

Spanish exports to Eastern European countries are improving, with Russia leading the ranking

of Spain’s main Eastern clients for furnishing products.

Regarding exports to America, the U.S.A. earns the 7th position in the ranking, with imports of

Spanish furniture growing by +30% to 52.5 million euros, while the Mexican market ranks now

11th, registering a +14% increase and totalling 33.5 million euros.

As for Africa, apart from Morocco included in the top ten, countries as Equatorial Guinea and

Algeria have done well during the last year showing a growth of +27.3% and +44.3%

respectively.
