PRESS RELEASE FROM THE NRPB

NRPB TRAINING COURSES IN 1986

Nine 1-day training seminars on the lonising Radiations Regulations 1985 have been arranged for 1986 by the NRPB to meet the urgent demand from industry. These are in addition to the 25 previous seminars the NRPB has already provided since the introduction of the new regulations.

This training programme has been organised by the NRPB's centres at Chilton (Oxon), Glasgow and Leeds.

The centres will also conduct over 40 other training courses for 1986, including courses for users of ionising radiations, radiation protection supervisors, safety officers and environ- mental health officers, users of unsealed radioactive sub- stances and industrial radiographers. There are also courses dealing with the hazards of non-ionising radiations, includ- ing ultraviolet and microwave, and on laser safety.

The NRPB centre at Glasgow is also organising courses for the offshore oil industry on radiation hazards. Two types of course are available--offshore radiation safety, and haz- ards from the build-up of natural radioactive materials in a plant.

In addition to the scheduled courses, the three NRPB centres will provide private courses for individual companies (or groups of associated companies). These courses are designed to meet the customer's own requirements and can be either formal or informal; they can be provided at a venue of the customer's choosing and be of any duration. Combining the best circumstances for effective training with substantial economies, these courses have proved a popular and effective way of training company staff.
