The July Edition could have been filled with “Fourth Of July Ar-ticles“, but instead I’ll let the reader de-

cide to distinguished if any of the stories have any element to Independence Day. The decla-ration of Independence absolved any allegiance to Great Britain. It was the time when the colo-nies wanted their own freedom and their own ideals. It was the “American Mind” expressing it-self “a new world order”. A place where everyone should have an opportunity and the right to be free.

Well, that was the idea. When King George III wrote in his diary “Nothing of impor-tance this day” on the 4th of July 1776, he underestimated the power of belief. He took for granted the “small thirteen co-lonies”. He took for granted the common people -the voice of the people did not matter. It is “we the people” -NOT “we the gover-nment”!

The thirteen colonies were already fed up with King Geor-ge and his abuses towards the people of the thirteen colonies. Today, it seems that the ame-rican government is in conflict with “The Declaration Of In-dependence” and we the people are tired of a “deaf-ear” and an “overbearing-government”.

Today, do we really know what the “4th of July” stands for? When you read it, does it do anything for you? Or is it me-aningless?

Manejar dinero con el celular se esta con-virtiendo en el nuevo mundo de las entidades financieras y aunque su popularidad apenas alcanza el 0.5% en el total de operaciones realizadas superado por cajeros automáticos, internet etc., es el futuro del negocio y nadie se quie-re quedar fuera de él.

Las operaciones móviles arran-caron en Colombia en el 2007 y su crecimiento ha sido sostenido.

Ese año se realizaron apenas 1.2 millones de transacciones, que subieron a 6.9 millones en el 2008 y a 12 millones el año siguiente.

En el 2010 se efectuaron 16.1 millones de transacciones y en los dos primeros meses del 2011, 3.1 millones.

Las operaciones móviles están basadas en la tecnología SIM card, ahí se encuentra incluida la opción de ingreso a los bancos para poder realizar dichas operaciones. Las transacciones se hacen utilizando claves por una sola vez, lo que ga-rantiza la seguridad del servicio.

En caso de pérdida o robo del celular, no podrán hacerse opera-ciones con él si no se tienen las cla-ves.

Cuando una persona le hace una transferencia o giro a otra, también debe enviarle un mensa-je de texto o llamarla para darle la clave que debe utilizar para re-tirar el dinero en un cajero auto-mático.

Por ahora, las transferencias o giros de cuenta a cuenta por celu-lar son gratuitas, pero mas adelante podrían llegar a cobrarse.

Así en un futuro, al momento de realizar un pago tendrá que pensar dos veces entre sacar el efectivo o sacar su teléfono celular.

A rizona Senator John McCain has just dis-covered supernatural illegal immigrants that

posses the power to start fires by the border. The current active wildfires that have together have burned 764,000 acres in Arizona are being blamed by these so-called “fire staters”, also known as “illegal immigrants that cross the border”. According to Sena-tor John McCain, “illegal im-migrants set fires because they signal others, they have set fires to keep warm, and they have set fires in order to divert law en-forcement agents and agencies from them”. Well, according to the New York Times, there was an article pertaining to illegal immigrants in Nogales, Arizona that completely contradicts that “fires are being used to signal others”. One reason that Se-nator John McCain is a “Jack-Ass” is that the senator thinks we are still in 1950. According to the article titled “Smugglers Guide Illegal Immigrants With Cues via Cell phone”, the now illegal immigrant is using cell phones in order to communicate with smugglers and their illegal crossing-buddy. Veteran Border Patrol agents say that smugglers and illegal immigrants are cons-tantly innovating to elude au-thorities. Aha! So, you see ... “smoke-signals” are out -cell phones are in! And now with extra strength cell signal for border coverage!

But I think the senator is unaware of the present times. The price of cell phones is of no importance to the senator becau-se the tax-payer pays for his. The last branches for a smoke signal was sold a couple of months ago in a “liquidation sale” -but wait! Besides using new cell phone technology when crossing the border, illegal immigrants are

now working in a secret labo-ratory to refine the powers of pyrokinesis, telepathy and tele-portation. So, give me some cre-dit, I’m the one who gave you the news first.

Another reason Senator John McCain is a “jack-ass” is that Tom Berglund, spokesman for the federal group managing the Wallow fire that McCain toured Saturday, was asked if there is substantial evidence that some fires were caused by ille-gal border crossers, he stated, “Absolutely not, at this level.” And to add the “er” to dumber, the U.S. Forest Service also re-ported that there is no evidence that undocumented immigrants started any of the wildfires in Arizona. As far as we know, the fires could have been cau-sed by the over 200,000 Native American Indians that reside in Arizona! But you wouldn’t want to lose that vote, huh? Maybe, we should legislate every illegal immigrant to vote. Who would you blame then?

Why would Senator John McCain say such a dumbass sta-tement? When he almost lost his life in the Vietnam War in the 1967 USS Forrestal fire who did he blame when he entered a coun-try that did not want him there? Who did the Vietnamese blame for their “fires”? Quite ironic, in-deed.

For some reason, I believe John McCain wanted to jump in the so-called Arizona’s Immi-gration Reform bandwagon. A reform of zero tolerance for un-documented Mexican crossers. A political move that the senator thinks comes with “supportive expectations” with many voters, colleagues and his old friends from the 18th century! But why would he care? He’s not plan-ning to stick around the sena-te for another hundred years,

right? Come on, how old is this guy? Two thousand years old? Give or take a few years.

But seriously, Senator McCain and Governor Jan Brewer should have a slow dance amongst the “Ari-zona Fires” and sing to the tune of “the roof is on fire ... let the mother(explicit) burn!. They should because the times “they are changin’”, but seem to be changing back to the old negati-ve ways. We are the land of immi-gran t s . T h e m a -kings of this coun-try was foun-ded by “fire starters”. We all want the good life. Some want it more than others. So, if you were to blame every fire star-ted by illegal immigrants, then blame the forefathers of this country, too. They were the first “fire-starters”; and because of them, we are these United States of America. And as of current times, how many “fires” have we caused on other countries? I think too many to count.

If we can not get passed blaming everything on illegal immigrants, then might as well tear down the Statue Of Liberty. And Mr. Senator and Governor Brewer, why don’t you just go on and say it? When you talk about the “illegal immigrants”,

Bebidas energizantes…¿Son recomendables?

Las bebidas energizantes aumentan el riesgo de sufrir un infarto sin importar la edad de la persona que las ingiera.

Estudios han revelado que el consumo excesivo puede ocasionar un daño serio en nuestra salud, sobre todo en el aspecto cardio-vascular ya que estas bebidas alteran los sis-temas sanguíneos y como resultado la sangre se vuelve espesa, generando la formación de coágulos que en la mayoría de los casos son los causantes de los problemas del corazón.

Las personas que padecen hipertensión arterial o presentan niveles altos y conti-nuos de estrés deben tener extremas pre-cauciones si piensan tomarlas.

Anteriormente las bebidas energizan-tes, que en realidad son estimulantes, solo eran ingeridas por deportistas de alto ren-dimiento; hoy en día se han popularizado entre los jóvenes para “levantar el ánimo” y algo más peligroso aún, es que están mez-clándolas con alcohol y drogas, lo que es muy dañino para nuestro organismo.

Al ingerir este tipo de productos, rápi-damente se nota la diferencia pues pone al organismo en estado de alerta, aumenta la

concentración y disminuye la sensación de cansancio.

Pero en realidad, no eliminan la fatiga muscular ni el agotamiento en general, solo inhibe temporalmente estas sensaciones, por lo tanto es normal una sensación de decai-miento una vez que acaba su efecto en el or-ganismo.

Unas horas después de la ingesta se ha observado que pueden aparecer reacciones adversas como dolores intensos de cabeza, dilatación de las pupilas, taquicardia, intoxi-cación, hipertensión arterial, vómito, nervio-sismo e hiperactividad y pueden provocar efectos nocivos en el sistema nervioso central e incluso provocar la muerte si se combinan con alcohol, drogas o algún medicamento.

Es muy importante conocer que estas bebidas NO son hidratantes como muchas personas creen, lejos de hidratar pueden llevarnos a la deshidratación, además por sus altos niveles de cafeína pueden conver-tirse en adictivas.

En conclusión, las bebidas energizan-tes revitalizan debido a sus ingredientes con propiedades estimulantes, pero los

efectos sólo son momentáneos y a la larga repercutirán en nuestra salud, sobre todo en nuestro corazón.

No existe nada mejor que llevar una vida sana, una alimentación adecuada nos proporcionará la energía necesaria para vi-vir el día a día y sobre todo aprender a con-trolar las situaciones de estrés, siempre con una actitud positiva.

In a first-person story in the New York Times Magazine this week, journalist Jose Anto-

nio Vargas confessed his status as an undocumented immigrant, brin-ging renewed attention to the ever-simmering, never-solved issue of immigration reform. The account is garnering plenty of attention—and scrutiny—for Vargas.

But less noticed amid the chatter is how the piece highlights the United States’ hodgepodge of immigration For instance, Vargas named a number of close mentors who helped him in matters rela-ted to his legal status. Under re-cent immigration laws passed in Arizona, Georgia and Alabama, the provision of such help—spe-cifically, harboring or shielding undocumented immigrants—has been criminalized. (Key parts of Arizona’s law were blocked by a federal judge, though this particu-lar section wasn’t one of them.) A number of states also recently passed laws expanding the use of E-Verify --a mostly voluntarily--

Homeland Security program that lets companies check the eligibi-lity of prospective employees.

In his account, Vargas writes that he had concerns about being identified through E-Verify, but that he always managed to land on pa-yroll anyway. It’s unclear whether any of his employers ever ran him through the system, but it’s also not guaranteed that he would have been detected if they had.

According to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, the pro-gram “accurately detects the status of unauthorized workers almost half of the time.” Immigration ad-vocates have opposed the use of E-Verify, arguing that it’s ineffective at identifying undocumented wor-kers and that mistakes could cause U.S. citizens and legal workers to be denied employment.

Most states don’t require em-ployers use E-Verify. But a num-ber of states have made checks mandatory—sometimes with surprising results. Georgia’s re-cently passed law requiring busi-nesses to run employees through E-Verify hasn’t even gone into effect yet, but has already left the

state’s agricultural industry in a lurch—with a sudden shortage of workers and “millions of dollars worth” of rotting crops. Here’s what AFP reported today:

“But as the full cost of the immigration reform emerges in the form of an estimated millions of dollars worth of crops rotting in fields, it could alarm other sta-tes that have passed or are consi-dering similar strict measures”.

Georgia labor officials esti-mate a shortage of some 11,000 workers in the agriculture sector, and the state has enacted a pro-gram where people on probation, who often have difficulty finding jobs, are sent into the fields.

Whatever the problems with the program, more states are sig-ning on. South Carolina’s governor is on the verge of signing a bill that requires businesses to run emplo-yees through E-Verify and penali-zes them for knowingly employing undocumented workers. Arizona’s law requiring E-Verify was upheld by the Supreme Court last month. North Carolina has an E-Verify bill in the works that exempts agricul-ture companies.

The immigration bill-writing bonanza by the states could still run into trouble in federal courts. Judges in Indiana and Georgia still have to rule on whether those states’ new immigration laws can take effect next month.

Another federal judge in Utah has to decide whether a law pas-sed last month in Utah—which was temporarily blocked because of its resemblance to Arizona’s—should be permanently blocked.

President Obama has said that immigration system needs reform but that he won’t accept “a patchwork of 50 states” acting on their own to address the issue. As we noted last year, the Obama administration has deported ille-gal immigrants in record numbers even while immigration courts across the country—which face record backlogs—have been dis-missing more deportation cases.

Last week, Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director John Morton released a memo authorizing the agency to exer-cise “prosecutorial discretion” in the enforcement of immigration laws and prioritize the types of

individuals it should take action against. “The agency is confron-ted with more administrative violations than its resources can address,” Morton wrote.

According to the memo, ICE officers, agents, and attorneys should consider an individual’s manner of entry and age of entry, pursuit of education, military ser-vice, criminal history, family rela-tionships and other factors when making enforcement decisions.

At the moment, it’s unclear what authorities will do about Vargas, a prominent figure who-se admission that he violated the laws of a broken immigration sys-tem will no doubt provoke strong feelings on both sides of the de-bate. Since giving his account, Vargas has publicly pushed for passage of the federal DREAM Act, which would provide a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants who seek to go to college or serve in the military, or who had been brought to the United States at a young age. His attorneys have said that he knows “there are no guarantees about what comes next”.

There were no planes back in 1897, but there

were UFO’s or “great airships’, as people back then called them. These so-called “great airships” were seen quite frequently by the average person. In the late 1800’s sightings were on the rise all across America, but one incident turn the small community of Au-rora, Texas into a UFO phenomenon and a national headline story. Even before Roswell and even before the Wright Brothers in-vented the airplane, a “great airship” crashed on Texas terrain.

The date was April 19, 1897, and as the story unfolded, an unidentified flying object came whirling down and came cras-hing on a windmill and on the land of Judge J.S. Proctor at 6:00 am local time.

Being how people in small communities were back then, they tried to aid the pi-lot, but he was badly burned and disfigured and died instantly. The debris of the “great airship” was scattered all over Judge Proctor’s land. On the following morning, debris or “strange metal” was picked up by people and examined. This strange metal was described by the lo-cal townspeople as a mixture of aluminum and silver. There was A U.S. Army Signal offi-cer in Aurora, Texas at the time who had some authority in astronomy. The Signal Corps was authorized as a se-parate branch of the Army and their main duty was to manage communication and information systems support for the com-mand and control of ar-

It’s like telling a catholic minister that you saw an angel from heaven, and he in return responds back with an in-credulous response such as, “You were hallucina-ting child, call your doc-tor.” An actual testimony from Dr. E. Etuart’s own

eyes may have swayed the ol’ metaphysics doc-tor to imbibe on some of that ol’ bad whiskey, too. Of course, a tale is a tale until the evidence is before you.

Some years ago, scientists examined and analyzed a metal object that the holder claimed was from “the great spa-ceship” that crashed in Aurora, Texas. It turned out to be not of earthly origins. One of the most accurate description of the Aurora Incident could be described in a 1897 newspaper cli-ppings from the actual reporter that covered the story. Below is the article that turned Au-rora, Texas into the first “Roswell”. The words be-low are from the actual newspaper clipping that was written in 1897. You be the judge.

About 6 o’clock this morning the early risers of Aurora were astonished at the sudden appearance of the airship which has been sailing

around the country. It was traveling due north and much nearer to the earth than before. Evidently some of the machinery was out of order, for it was making a speed of only ten or twelve miles an hour, and gradually setting toward the earth. It sailed over the public square and when it reached the north part of town it collided with the tower of Judge Proctor’s windmill and went into pieces with a terrific explosion, scat-tering debris over se-veral acres of grouund, wrecking the windmill and water tank and destroying the judge’s flower garden. The pilot of the ship is supposed to have been the only one aboard and while his remains were badly disfigured, enough of the original has been picked up to show that he was not an inhabi-tant of this world. Mr. T.J. Weems, the U.S. Army signal Service officer at this place and authority on astronomy gives it as his opinion that the pilot

was a native of the planet Mars. Papers found on his person, evidently the records of his travels, are writ-ten in some unknown hieroglyphics and cannot be deciphered. This ship was too badly wrecked to form any conclusion as to its construction or moti-ve power. It was built of an unknown metal, resembling somewhat a mixture of aluminum and silver, and it must have weighed several tons. The town is today full of people who are viewing the wreckage and gathering speci-mens of strange metal from the debris. The pilot’s funeral will take place tomorrow.

Durante muchos años el Ho-tel Hamilton, ubicado en Salinas y Matamoros en el

centro de Laredo, fue uno de los más lujosos en la ciudad.

Ahora convertido en un cen-tro para atención de personas de la edad de oro, el edificio de 10 pisos alberga misteriosos secretos que han sido divulgados por quie-nes alguna vez han estado en ese lugar.

La leyenda cuenta que en sus pasillos, antes llenos de lujos y alfombras caras, se escuchan vo-ces de niños que corren gritando y cuando las personas se asoman no miran a nadie.

También se cuenta que un sacerdote fue empujado al vacío

por una ventana y desde enton-ces, los muebles de algunas ha-bitaciones se cambian de lugar, las luces se prenden y se apagan y el elevador funciona por sí solo.

Inclusive, se dice que otras personas fueron asesinadas en ese edificio en el pasado pero no hay mucha información sólida para demostrarlo.

Este edificio fue construido en dos fases, la primera en 1923 y la segunda parte entre 1927 y 1928, tiene dos torres y en algún momento contó con 165 habita-ciones a todo lujo.

Es una de las construcciones que resaltan en el centro de Lare-do porque es muy alto y está loca-lizado frente a la histórica Plaza Jarvis.

El 23 de abril del 2009, Am-paro López Ruiz acudió a una revisión médica con

un ginecólogo del Departamento de Salud de Laredo y desde en-tonces, inexplicablemente ya no regresó a su casa.

A casi 2 años 3 meses de su desaparición, aún no existe un mínimo rastro de ella, a pesar que se han realizado múltiples inves-tigaciones --incluso del FBI--, lo que ha sumido en la desespera-ción a su familia.

Este hecho, ha dejado marca-do a Laredo porque es uno de los muchos casos policíacos que se han quedado sin resolver.

He aquí, la historia de su ex-traña desaparición:

Con ocho meses de embara-zo, esta mujer indocumentada, de 33 años de edad y originaria de Nuevo Laredo, llegó ese día alre-dedor de las 8:00 de la mañana a la clínica de salud en 2600 Cedar, para continuar con el seguimiento previo a su parto y salió de ahí a las 11:00...después, misteriosa-mente ya no se supo más de ella.

Beatriz, hermana de Amparo, asegura que Martha, otra de sus hermanas, estuvo hablando vía celular desde las 7:00 de la maña-na con ella, pero después, simple-mente ya no contesto el teléfono, perdiendo --hasta el momento-- todo contacto con ella.

El vehiculo que manejaba la desaparecida, un Nissan Maxima modelo 1990 color café, fue en-contrado en el estacionamiento del Departamento de Salud, intac-to como lo dejó ella, sin cerrarlo con llave y con los vidrios abajo.

Para las 5:00 de la tarde de ese 23 de abril, las hermanas reporta-ron oficialmente la desaparición de esta mujer, iniciándose las investi-gaciones por parte de detectives del Departamento de Policía.

“Empezamos a pegar pósters informativos por doquier y acudi-mos a todos los medios de difu-sión de ambos Laredos, reportan-do también la desaparición ante lo infructuoso de las autoridades, pero ni así pudimos localizarla”, aseguró Beatriz.

“Fuimos también tantas ve-ces al Departamento de Salud para poder encontrar alguna pista, que ahora ya nos no nos dejan en-trar”, se quejó.

DUDASExisten algunas versiones so-

bre la desaparición de Amparo, como la de que “se fue con otro hombre”, la que Beatriz rechaza, pues asegura que su hermana era incapaz de cometer ese error ya que tiene una hija de tres años que requiere de cuidados médicos espe-ciales ya que nació a los 5 meses de gestación y sufre de problemas cardiovasculares congénitos.

gen en torno a López Zavala, pues asegura que el día de la desapari-ción de Amparo, el tipo recogió el vehiculo y que ya para el día siguiente lo tenía lavado y aspira-do, evitando que las autoridades realizaran labores periciales.

López Zavala fue incluso en-cerrado por algunas semanas y hasta fue sometido a la prueba del polígrafo en Austin, Texas sin que le encontraran evidencia alguna.

Otra de las dudas, es en refe-rencia al ginecólogo que atendió a Amparo ese día, pues asegura que a un mes de la ausencia de su hermana, recibió una llamada a su celular de alguien que se iden-tificó como “Papayo” --como de cariño le llamaban-- quien solo le soltó un lacónico “Soy yo...Papa-yo”. Y colgó.

La llamada, fue rastreada por las autoridades del FBI y la ubica-ron en Las Vegas, Nevada prove-niente de una tarjeta pre-pagada.

Días después, las hermanas de Amparo quisieron entrevistar-se, --siguiendo con sus propias investigaciones--, con el mencio-nado doctor en el Departamento de Salud y no lo encontraron, porque en ese tiempo, se encon-traba de vacaciones, precisamen-

te en dicha ciudad del estado de Nevada.

Beatriz, desconfía también del Departamento de Salud, pues co-menta que Amparo en ese tiempo, para poder recibir los beneficios médicos gratuitos que necesitaba, se declaró indigente, que era des-empleada, que no tenía pariente alguno que la apoyara económica-mente y que carecía de papeles.

Ahora, ella piensa que esa información confidencial, pudo haber pasado a manos criminales.

Entre sollozos, al lado de Vi-centa, otra de sus hermanas presen-tes durante la entrevista con Presen-cia News, Beatriz resume después de tanto tiempo de angustia, dolor, decepción y desesperación.

On April 23, 2009, Amparo Ruiz Lo-pez went to her

usual medical examina-tion at the Department of Health and never returned home. An investigation from law enforcement -including the FBI- has resulted in a dead-end. No clues. No trace. It seems that Amparo Ruiz Lopez just vanished from the face of the earth.

Originally, from Nue-vo Laredo, Tamaulipas and eight months preg-nant, this 33 year old started her day by going to her pre-natal visit. Previously, Amparo Lo-pez had been talking to Martha (sister) around 7:00 A.M. on the cell phone. After Amparo’s doctor’s appointment at 11:00 A.M., Amparo’s whereabouts have been a mystery. “She never answered her cell pho-ne after that,” stated Beatriz. “We never saw her again.”

The vehicle that Am-paro was driving was a 1990 Brown Nissan Maxima and was found parked at the Laredo Department of Health parking lot located at 2600 Cedar. The car was left the way Ampa-ro always left her car parked; with the doors unlocked and the win-dows rolled down.

By five in the after-noon, Amparo’s sisters officially reported her missing with the Laredo Police Department and the FBI. The family also met with the represen-tatives of The Mexican Consulate in the Laredo area and with Laredo Mayor Raul Salinas re-garding Amparo’s dis-saperance at the city’s health clinic. “The Ma-yor just sat there and

listened , but never did anything to help us, “ the family said. “So, we deci-ded to put posters of my sister all over town,” Bea-triz said, “ We went with all the other media, so they can help us spread the word about my sis-ter. We also went back to The Laredo Department of Health to check for any other clues to the whe-reabouts of Amparo, but they would not let us in anymore.”

Rumors started sprea-ding around that maybe Amparo Lopez ran away with another man, but the rumors were quickly rejected by the family. She had a three year old daughter with a conge-

They took her because of her baby!” Beatriz claims that because Amparo was “undocumented and indigent” they sold her medical information to kidnappers.

At the time of her di-sappearance, Amparo was living with a man by the name of “Miguel”, and according to Beatriz, was a violent man and a drug abuser who would phy-sically abuse Amparo. In this case, he was a sus-pect. After the disappea-rance of Amparo, “Miguel” picked up the vehicle and by the following day, the car had been “washed and vacuumed” before any evidence could be obtain by forensics.. “Mi-guel” was arrested and imprisoned in this case, but later released when “Miguel” took a polygraph test in Austin, Texas. The test was found inconclusi-ve and not enough to keep him in custody.

After a month of the disappearance of Ampa-ro, a strange phone call was made to Beatriz that was was traced to a pre-paid cell phone in Las Vegas Nevada, the caller had identified herself as “papayo”, a nick-name the family had for Ampa-ro. The caller said, “It’s me papayo,” and then the call was disconnected. Beatriz swears that it was Amparo’s voice.

for an array of conditions, from depression to cancer, experts suggest. The human body needs a small amount of inositol, a mem-ber of the B vitamin family, for its cells to function properly. Elie Klein, a naturopathic doctor in Toronto, told CTV News that a number of medical doctors send their pa-tients to natural health food stores for inosi-tol to treat a variety of conditions.

“There is certainly growing interest in it,” Klein said.

Toronto psychotherapist Dr. Harold Pupko prescribes it to his patients to treat their anxiety and depression. “There will be less chatter or less noise in your head in terms of repetitive types of negative thoughts, anxious thoughts,” Pupko told CTV News. Although inositol is relati-vely unknown among the general public, studies have shown it to be effective at reducing the symptoms of obsessive-com-pulsive disorder and panic attacks. In Van-couver, researchers have just completed a preliminary study that suggests inositol

may help prevent lung cancer.For their study, the researchers gave

former smokers 18 grams of inositol per day. The ex-smokers had what is called se-vere dysplasia, or high-grade pre-cancerous changes in their bronchial tubes. After one to three months on inositol, the patients had fewer pre-cancerous growths in their lungs. As well, the compound appears to cause few side effects, even at high doses. “So this is one agent that seems to have a very potent effect in terms of regressing, pre-existing, pre-cancerous cells in the bronchial tube,” Dr. Stephen Lam of the B.C. Cancer Agency told CTV News. “That is why we are quite excited about it.”

Lam and his team plan to conduct more studies into the benefits of inositol on lung cancer.

There are also ongoing studies eva-luating inositol’s ability to treat infertility, lower cholesterol and normalize insulin levels.

“I don’t think it deserves to be a se-cret,” Pupko said. “I think it should be public knowledge.”

“Panchita” Martínez tiene un sentimiento especial por el Día de la Independencia de

Estados Unidos. De su vientre sa-lieron cinco hijos que se convir-tieron en soldados y defendieron la libertad de este país.

“Estoy muy orgullosa de ha-berle dado cinco soldados a esta nación, tristemente tres de mis hijos murieron peleando pero se que murieron haciendo lo que ellos querían y luchando por algo en que ellos creían”, dijo “Pan-chita”, quien en unos meses cum-plirá 100 años.

Sus hijos Antonio, Jesús, Enrique, Estanislao y Guada-lupe, se enlistaron voluntaria-mente para ir a diferentes gue-rras con el ejército de Estados Unidos. Sólo los dos primeros regresaron.

“Antonio y Jesús salieron vi-

vos pero han sufrido mucho por las guerras, quedaron lastimados y tienen lesiones que los llevan al hospital constantemente, no están bien”, mencionó.

“Panchita” dijo que festejará el Día de la Independencia con mucho orgullo por sus hijos aun-que en realidad ella se siente más mexicana que los frijoles, porque nació en Linares, Nuevo León hace casi 100 años.

Ella se vino a Laredo cuando tenía 20 años para conocer a un tío y en un baile que se ofreció en su honor y de su hermana, cono-ció a Enrique Martínez, quien se convirtió en su esposo a los ocho días.

“Fue amor a primera vista, me gustó mucho como me trata-ba, como me hablaba, decidimos casarnos a los ocho días y comen-zamos a formar nuestra familia en Laredo”, recordó.

Del fruto de su amor nacieron

sus cinco hijos soldados además de tres hijas que son Aurora, Petra y Antonieta, ésta última ya falle-cida.

“Nos casamos de nuevo cuando cumplimos 50 años de matrimonio y de verdad fuimos muy felices hasta que hace unos 20 años falleció y me quedé viu-da, desde entonces vivo en el asilo del Senior Citizens Home”, relató.

En su cuarto, el 673, guarda celosamente las fotos de sus hijos soldados a quienes admira y re-cuerda con gran cariño porque los cinco fueron muy valientes al pe-lear por su patria, por sus creen-cias y por la libertad de este país.

Así, sumida en sus recuerdos, “Panchita” disfruta de las histo-rias de su juventud, de su matri-monio y de sus queridos hijos, en especial de quienes defendieron la independencia de Estados Uni-dos con honor y gallardía.

LAREDO, Texas.- Por esta-dísticas en verdad alarman-tes sobre laredenses que han

caído en las garras de la drogadic-ción, un juez de distrito, de manera intensa y decidida, implementó un programa para rehabilitar, median-te un sistema legal, a cientos de ellos con este grave y serio proble-ma que afecta a la sociedad.

El juez Oscar J. Hale, Jr., titu-lar de la corte de distrito 406, deter-minó emplear una serie de medidas enfocadas directamente a ayudar a quienes, por delitos derivados por la posesión o consumo de drogas, han sido encarcelados.

Hale, quien es juez de este tribunal desde el 2005, decidió tomar como modelo un sistema empleado desde 1989 en el esta-do de Florida; un programa en el cual participan diferentes agen-cias gubernamentales.

En Laredo, colaboran el South Texas Council of Alcohol and Drug Abuse (STCADA, por

sus siglas en ingles), además de consejeros profesionales y per-sonal de los defensores de oficio y de Libertad Condicional del condado de Webb, sin faltar las asociaciones de Alcohólicos y Narcóticos Anónimos.

En entrevista con Presencia News, Hale comentó que decidió adoptar este programa debido al cúmulo de 600 casos anuales de

personas con problemas de dro-gadicción; es decir, del 90 por cierto de los casos que en los úl-timos seis años se registraron en las cortes del condado, además de por lo menos dos muertos por sobredosis.

El programa, explicó el ma-gistrado, consiste en examinar cada uno de estos casos por par-te de una mesa directiva, la cual, posteriormente los turna a su corte, para después integrarlos a un sistema en el cual deberán de someterse a una serie de condi-ciones para que puedan no solo rehabilitarse y dejar las drogas, sino también lograr que sean exo-nerados de sus cargos.

Tales condiciones, apunta, señalan que el infractor deberá asistir a sesiones de rehabilitación hasta tres veces por semana, ade-más de que tendrán también que someterse a pruebas detectoras de drogas en ese mismo lapso, en un tiempo que podría durar más de 18 meses.

REQUISITOSHale advirtió que el

programa es muy exigen-te y riguroso, porque

cualquier persona que incumpla este tipo de obligaciones, podría perder su libertad bajo fianza y sería hasta obligado a regresar a la cárcel, además de recibir orde-namientos para que realice mas horas de trabajo comunitario.

Los participantes, dijo, de-ben abstenerse de consumir cualquier tipo de droga en por lo menos 30 días y después con-tinuar con los lineamientos que se les marque.

El juez considera que este programa esta rindiendo frutos ya, pues de los 90 últimos parti-cipantes, se han registrado casos excepcionales, como el de un hombre de aproximadamente 30 años que resultó “sucio” en una ocasión que fue revisado quími-camente, confesó que de 7 u 8 ve-ces que normalmente se drogaba con heroína a la semana, “se le hizo fácil” hacerlo solo una.

El tipo fue expulsado del pro-grama y expuesto a recibir todo el peso de la ley a consecuencia de los delitos que cometió a causa de la droga, pero al revisar su caso, dado a la confesión no exigida del individuo, se le dio una segunda oportunidad.

“Hoy, ese hombre está libre y sin delito que perseguir, debido a que comprendió a tiempo las bon-dades del programa y rectificó su rumbo”, dijo Hale.

Y así, agregó, existen mu-chos casos que demuestran que el programa da buenos resultados, tanto que se han realizado “gra-duaciones” de personas que han resultado exitosas de este progra-ma de rehabilitación.

En el programa, Hale apuntó que además participa personal de su corte, como Haydee Carrillo, directora del Programa y Víc-tor Oliveros, como Director del Proyecto, junto con Jorge Tre-viño por parte de la Fiscalía de Distrito, Dolores Martínez, de la Defensoría de Oficio y represen-tantes de la oficina de Libertad Condicional que dirige Rebecca Ramírez-Palomo.

Creemos que este even-to debe ser popular y de acceso gratuito para toda lo comunidad y aunque Salinas es un alcalde de tiempo completo, obró mal al cobrar por la entrada al informe. Sólo faltó que cobrara por dar au-tógrafos y tomarse fotos.

Mala leche*El intento de Ana Laura Cavazos, Abogada del gobierno del condado, de ser testigo en un caso contra la Comisionada Wawi Tijerina habla muy mal de su ética profesional, ya que ella tenía información confi-dencial discutida en sesiones priva-das de la Corte de Comisionados.

Tijerina tuvo un problema con tres empleadas a quienes movió de un centro comunitario a otro y la demandaron, lo que quiso apro-vechar Cavazos para ser testigo en su contra, ya que es su enemiga política, pero el defensor de Wawi, un abogado privado, amenazó con pedir que le quitaran su licencia por violar la confidencialidad de abo-gado-cliente y eso sí la asustó. Ya ni la amuela, en lugar de ponerse a demandar a quienes defraudaron a la agencia del CAA en el programa de climatización.

La Juez Municipal debe re-cordar que los actos de este oficial se van a reflejar en su contra y las personas se van de la corte echan-do pestes contra ella y prometien-do que en la siguiente elección no la apoyarán, aunque sea hermana de Henry Cuellar. Hay que ayudar

a quienes sí lo necesitan y poner a este sujeto a cuidar el orden y no hacerla de Juez.

Invasión USA*La invasión que hicieron soldados mexicanos que cruzaron al lado americano por el puente Juárez-Lin-coln supuestamente por error, dejó muchos comentarios en la mesa.

El incidente pudo convertirse en una tragedia y en un problema internacional muy grave si los agentes de la aduana americana hubieran utilizado sus armas al sentirse amenazados por el con-voy de tres camionetas de milita-res de México.

Ojala y algo así no vuelva a suceder porque de por sí la fron-tera ya está caliente con el asesi-nato de inmigrantes por parte de agentes de la Patrulla Fronteriza en otros puntos.
