Praise and Prayer Concerns

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temp-tation; but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.

Hymn of Communion “The Old Rugged Cross” No. 327

Communion Meditation

Distribution of the Lord’s Supper Deacons

All Christians of whatever name or creed are invited to participate. We take the Bread as it is passed to symbolize our personal fellow-ship with God in Christ. We hold the Cup to take together, symbol-izing our unity in Christ.

Tithes and Offerings

Speaker Austin Scott

From the Cross: “Father, Into Your Hands…” Luke 23:46

Hymn of Invitation “Jesus Paid It All” No. 305

Closing Chorus “Let’s Worship and Adore Him” No. 247

Preacher’s Note: Left Unsaid Time and focus have not permitted us, once again, to say all that we would love to say about this scene. The cross of Christ is a milepost in history that looms large and casts a shadow over the entire timeline forward and back. How could we, in less than two months, address all that we could (and should!)?

We didn’t back up far enough to mention Palm Sunday when Jesus parades into Jerusalem on a donkey and the people throw branches and their own cloaks into the streets. We didn’t even back up far enough to catch when those same people less than a week later would change their chant from “Hosanna!” to “Crucify Him!”

Our focus has intentionally been too narrow to catch all that transpired in the days leading up to the cross. But I pray that our focus on the cross has prepared our hearts and minds for Easter. With these last words from the cross that we’ll consider this morning my thoughts are already turning to the empty tomb. How beautiful it is that the last words of Jesus on the cross are a prayer that we must pray as well. Having looked to the Christ on the cross we must now decide to follow and obey. In making that decision, a key stone early on (that must be repeated often) is this prayer: “Father, into your hands I commit my spirit.” Jesus prayed it at his death. We pray it to find life. >>>>>>>>>>>>>> For Next Week: Commissioned: “GO…” – Matthew 28:19-20
