WHAT IS THE CAASPP TEST?• CAASPP stands for California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress• The CAASPP was designed to test students on what they learn throughout their

school year• Is based on State Standards• Students in grades 3-8 and11 all across California will participate in the test• Tests are now digital and completed on iPads*• Districts use the data from the CAASPP to make determinations about student

progress and areas to focus on in the future• Learn more about the CAASPP here.

**SPED students may take a paper pencil test and/or modified test depending on IEP

HOW CAN I HELP MY CHILD PREPARE?

• The CAASPP website provides a great deal of information about the test; in addition, there are practice tests available to students of all testing grade levels (3-8, and 11).• Taking practice tests, even small blocks of tests, will help your child

get comfortable with the format and embedded tools of the CAASPP. • Exposure to the CAASPP practice tests can help relieve student

anxiety about testing.• The tests are easy to access and navigate.

• Once on the CAASPP Website, choose the widget titled “Practice and Training Tests”

• Once you have clicked on the “Practice and Training Tests” you will be directed to the page below. Choose the green box titled “Student Interface Practice and Training Tests.”

• On the next page, you will be prompted to begin the login process. Simply click the “Sign In” button. You do not need to enter any info; leave the guest login info.

• Next, you will need to choose a grade level using the “grade” drop down option. After doing so, click “yes.” In this case, I picked the 4th grade tests.

• On this page, you will be directed to all the available tests for the grade level. Pick any and take them up to 99 times each! In this case, a student could take Math or English tests for 4th grade.

HOW TO TAKE THE PRACTICE TEST STEP 7• On this page, you have the option to change the settings. For instance, you can change the

test from English to Spanish or Braille, or change options for mark for review, glossary, or translations, just to name a few. Choose options based on what your student will experience on the test. Note: If your child does not have special accommodations, it is likely they will need to keep the setting as they are.

• Once you are happy with your settings, click select at the bottom.

• The next page asks that you confirm you are taking the test of your choice. If everything looks good, click “Yes, Start My Test.”

• This page will give you more information about the test, including an overview and directions. Once you are ready, click on “Begin Test Now.”

THE TEST• Once you begin the test, you can see how many questions

there are by looking at the top left hand side. You can also see how to move ahead, go back, or pause the test. You cannot move forward unless you have answered every question on the page.

• Be sure to explore all the embedded tools by clicking on the “hamburger navigation.” Any tools available for that question will appear. Have your student click on the “hamburger” for each question to see what is available.

• Once you have reached the end of the test, click the red button

THE TEST• The next page will ask you to confirm that you are ready to

end your test. Students have the option to go back and keep working or to check their answers. If you are ready to finish, click “yes.”

THE TEST• The following page provides yet another chance to confirm

you are ready to end and submit your test. If you want to check questions, click on a question #.• If you are ready to submit your test, click “Submit Test.”

THE TEST• Yet another box will pop up to ensure that you really want to

submit your test. If you do, click yes.

FINISHING THE TEST• The last page will look like what you see below.

Unfortunately, a score will not be provided. If you would like to see an answer key visit http://www.caaspp.org/ta-resources/practice-training.html (When students take a practice Interim Test with their teachers using their name and SSID #, a score is provided to the teacher)
