In this unit pupils will:

1. Develop their skills in using machine and power

tools

2. Provide their models with suitable finishes

In this course, you will among other things learn:

Improve your craft skills

Improve measuring and marking out skills

Gain an insight into the world of work.

Learn how to work individually and with

Have the satisfaction of taking home projects

that you have made.

In this unit pupils will:

1. Produce a model using flat frame construction

and woodwork joints

2. Read drawings to produce the flat frame

model

National 4 & 5

Flat Frame Construction

National 4 & 5

Carcase Construction

In this unit pupils will:

1. Produce a model using carcase construction

and woodwork joints

2. Read drawings to produce the carcase model

Pupils will then produce an additional item in class

which will be used as evidence for their Value

Added Unit. National 4 and 5 pupils will work to

different tolerances within their manufacturing

process.

National 4

Value Added Unit

The Value Added Unit for National 4 will be

assessed by the manufacture of a finished product

in wood. This will be assessed within the course.

National 4 pupils will manufacture to the following

tolerances.

Marking out = +/- 2 mm

Planing or similar = +/- 2 mm

Construction joint gaps not to exceed +/- 2mm

Flat-frame overall sizes within +/- 5mm

National 5

Value Added Unit

The Value Added Unit for National 5 will be

assessed by the manufacture of a finished product

in wood. This will be assessed within the course.

National 5 pupils will manufacture to the following

tolerances.

Tolerance in marking out = +/- 1mm

Planing or similar = +/- 1mm

Joint gaps not to exceed +/- 1mm

Overall sizes within +/- 3mm
