In1775, the British government was preparing for military action because American congress had proposed that everybody should disassociate themselves with those who stand in the way of American liberty a.k.a Britain.

Taxes were imposed on American by the British which infuriated Americans.

In April of 1775 fighting broke out and two months later was the “battle at bunker hill” which would set off the war’s first real battle resulting in 1,000 casualties.

The Congress assigned the Continental Army and appointed George Washington as commander.

On August 23, it was proclaimed that the colonies were in full open rebellion and On July 4, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was formally approved.

After the war the influence of Britain dissolved in America and at the end of 1776 some states had developed their own constitutions and most attention was focused on adopting a strong and organized governmental system which they had somewhat already been working on during the time of the war.

In March 1781, the Articles of Confederation was established and with it the name of their new land, The United States of America.

In October 1781, at what is now called “the battle at Yorktown,” Cornwallis surrendered his army to Washington. The war continued for several months, but Yorktown assured American independence.

The American had a great deal of pride for their land after only calling it home for a short amount of time and when the began the war with Britain there was nothing that was going to stop them from getting their independence. Britain had the numbers but America had the heart and that proved to be a greater force.

They wanted to design their government around the desires of the citizens and make it an establishment for the people with a stress upon the equality of man.
