SPORE – BEARING PLANTS

SPORE – BEARING PLANTS

There are many kinds of Vascular Plants. One group is called the Spore-Bearing Plants.

There reproductive structures are called spores.

Try to find time to examine the leaves of ferns in the garden. Look at the back of the leaves. You will find black structures neatly arranged somewhere along the edge of some leaves. These structures are where spores of ferns can be found. Ferns, horsetails and club mosses are spore-bearing plants.

SEED BEARING PLANTS

Instead of spores, another group of vascular plants have seeds for reproduction. Seed-bearing plants constitute more than 95% of all vascular plants. In contrast, spore-bearing vascular plants constitute only the remaining 5%. Seed-bearing plants may be divided into two groups. A big majority of them have seeds inside the fruit. Examples of these are avocado, mango, papaya, etc.
