How will you keep Happy & Healthy this Christmas? There is clear evidence that everyday habits and behaviours - such as eating too much unhealthy food, drinking more alcohol than is recommended, continuing to smoke and not being active enough - are responsible for around 40% of all deaths in England, and cost the NHS more than £11 billion a year. Therefore, it is important that we are supported to consider our environments and everyday lifestyle choices, put ourselves first and take a positive step towards improving our own health each day.

However, there are certain times of the year when making the healthier choice becomes even more difficult because of the habits we’ve fallen into when celebrating special occasions such as Christmas. Christmas can be a wonderful time of year. A time for celebration, giving and receiving. But for a lot of people, Christmas can be a really hectic stressful period, where we are encouraged to over-spend and over-indulge at every turn. Then dark nights and busy schedules mean we might neglect the activities that recharge us. So no wonder many of us face the prospect of the post-Christmas blues feeling exhausted, a little tighter around the waist and lighter in pocket too!

But it doesn’t have to be that way! There’s only ever going to be one you so take time to look after yourself this year, it’s important! Try following our ways to wellbeing and/or celebrate using some of our healthier alternatives and you’ll be on your way to having a Happier Healthier Christmas this year
