PowerJoint™ KitsPowerJoint™ heatshrink kits are commonly used throughout the world when jointing or terminating medium voltage cables in order to provide successful electrical connectivity and environmental insulation.

Each PowerJoint™ kit comprises a unique set of cross linked polymer tubes (stress control, multilayer electrical insulation & semiconductor and outer physical insulating jacket) together with stress and sealing mastics, copper and steel tapes, clamps and roll springs, together with detailed installation instructions available in printed and online video versions. Either visit our website or snap the QR code with your smartphone.

Each PowerJoint™ kit has been individually designed for the specific requirements of the subject cable to be jointed or terminated with design variations dependant on the type and geographical requirements for the application. This may include additional armour, insect defeating sheathing or rain sheds.

Electrical conductivity is provided by teaming the PowerJoint™ kit with an appropriate set of proven, tested and patented CABAC lugs or links. The electrical connector’s may be crimp or bolted type.

The combinations of certified PowerJoint™ heatshrink kits together with CABAC proven and tested connector products backed by local support will provide both, straightforward and successful joint or termination.

PowerJoint™ InstallationShelf life is practically unlimited and few kits sizes cover a vast cross section range reducing inventory values.

• Must be installed by a competent MV cable jointer who is certified to perform this type of work.

• Simple to install with clear, easy to follow installation instructions. You can snap the QR code on the packaging with your smartphone.

• Range of medium voltage kits are designed for polymeric cables used in Australian & New Zealand.

General Glossary of Terminology - Terminations and Joints.ARmOuReD CABle – cable reinforced with steel wire (SWA), steel plate or belt, Aluminium wire (AWA) around the cable covered by an outer sheath.

ANTI-TRACK – cable insulation designed to prevent current flowing between two points especially from contamination by dust and dirt.

BelTeD CABle – cable with a metal foil screen wrapped around each core.

BReAKOuT TeRmINATION – multicore cable termination.

BRANCH JOINT – electrical cable joint with a tap off cable.

BReAKOuT glOVe – heatshrink glove or boot with a skirt and spouts or fingers.

BOOTS – shrouds or rubber covers. Also can refer to breakout boots or gloves.

BuSBAR – Copper or Aluminium conducting bar normally found in switchgear or switch yards.

CABle PRePARATION – the initial stage to join or terminate a cable by stripping, cleaning and dressing that cable.

COPPeR wIRe SCReeN (CwS) – Copper wires used to screen the cable cores over semiconductor layer.

COmPlIANCe – product is compliant to the requirements of a certain specification.

CRImP – a method of compaction of a lug or link to form a reliable electrical connection.

CROSSlINKeD – bonds between polymers achieved with UV radiation or chemical bonding.

DIeleCTRIC – insulating material between two polarised conductors.

eRP CABle – see rubber cable.

eND SeAlS – cable end caps.

glOVeS OR BOOTS – cable breakout with 3, 4 or 5 fingers (spouts).

ImPeDANCe – resistance in an AC circuit – Ohms.

lINKS – conductive metal connectors used to join conductors.

lOw VOlTAge – from 50V to 1000V AC.

lug – conductive metal connector to terminate conductors. It has a palm, barrel and connection slot or hole to fasten it to a terminal.

meDIum VOlTAge – from 1kV to 36kV AC.

mONOmeR – single molecule plastic or subunit of a polymer.

mSDS – Material Safety Data Sheet.

PARTIAl DISCHARge – in medium and high voltage, the gradual break down of conductor insulation due to small sparks or flashes.

PIlC – Paper Insulated Lead Sheathed Cable.

POlymeR – monomers linked in a chain to form a large molecule.

POlyOleFIN – common plastic used for heatshrink with crosslink properties.

PVC – Poly Vinyl Chloride

RePAIR SleeVe – see Zipper Tubes.

ReSISTANCe – the opposition to the flow of electric current – ohms.

RuBBeR CABle – eRP – Ethylene Propylene Rubber.

SemI-CON – semi-conductive plastic used to shield a plastic core.

SHeARBOlT – a type of bolt used in mechanical links or lugs designed to break off flush with the barrel at a specified torque.

SHelF lIFe – the period that something can be stored and used safely before its properties physically change.

STReSS CONTROl TAPe – pliable, void filling mastic tape used at specific

stress points to prevent insulation breakdown.

STReSS CONTROl TuBe – heatshrink tube used to control electrical stress in a termination or joint.

TeRmINATION (CABle) – cable end prepared and connect to an electrical terminal e.g. busbar.

THROugH JOINT – electrical cable

joint, joining two cables.

TRANSITION JOINT – joining two different types of cable e.g. XLPE to paper (PILC) cable joint.

TRIFuRCATION – changing a 3 core cable into three single cores.

T JOINT – electrical cable joint, with a tap off, but in a T shape.

TuBe – heatshrink cut to specific lengths.

TyPeS OF TAPe – mastic, anti track, stress control, semicon, PVC.

TyPeS OF TeRmINATIONS & JOINTS – heatshrink, cold applied, cold shrink, pre-moulded terminations.

uV STABIlISeD – heatshrink treated to withstand exposure to the sun’s ultra violet rays according to specified parameters.

XlPe – Cross Linked Polyethylene.

ZIPPeR TuBeS – wrap around shrink with Stainless Steel Channel or Zip.
