England, 1688-1689

We call “Glorious Revolution” –or “Revolution of 1688”- to the overthrow of King James II of England by a union of English Parliamentarians and William III.

Results of the revolution

• Destroyed the idea of “divine right” (absolute monarchy) in England.

• The revolution established that the ultimate power in the state was devided between monarch and parliament and the monarch ruled with the consent of the governed.

• A constitutional monarchy was formed with the making of the document known as Bill of Rights.
