Kunsthal 2015|Rotterdam

OMA designed in 1996 The Kunsthal, a museum located in Rotterdam, and world famous for its contemporary design. The antisocial design of Rem Koolhaas; the ramp at the entrance with an incline of 1:5, the unclear routing in the building, the staircase leading to nowhere, and the high energy bills because of poor detailing provided the motiviation to redesign the Kunsthal.The design included an entrance positioned at the main road, a

1:20 ramp around the exhibition halls that make a clear routing with overviews into the museum, several focusses on daylight with differing roofstructures and an atrium for necessary climate control which make this Kunsthal one that would be applicable for 2015 and future generations. Making a complete Revit-model, a system for the climate-control, constructional plans, and an socio-economic analysis of the contemporary museum-culture were included in this final B. Arch project.

De verschillende dakvormen vanuit vogelperspectief gezien. Het glazen dak boven het atrium heeft geintegreerde zonnepanelen dat tevens voor klimaatbeheersing zorgt.

5 designs voor degevel panelen,10 mm dik geperforeerd staal,omgevouwen.Deze kunnen op verschillendemanieren gecombineerd worden om een open danwelgesloten gevel te maken.

Er is eventueel nog de mogelijk-heid om mos in sommigepanelen te verwerken.

Kunsthal 2015|RotterdamAluminum panels, cladded onto the half-open facade, created an outer shell around the concrete building. Daylight enters through the holes in the various sets of panels to create a different spectacle of light. At night the process is reversed with artificial light breaking through from the inside capturing the attention of onlookersThe glass roof on top of the atrium consists of solar panels, creating an array of shadows. Above the ramp the skylights will differ their shadows onto the concrete walls, making another pattern.

Villa renovation|The Hague

The clients brief was to modernise and open up the villa. Built in the 20s, and owned by the client’s grandparents, the 500 m2 villa had a traditional floorplan and a lack of contemporary ambiance. The ground floor needed a workable plan for the couple and their three children, one where the space would be divided in

which the family can interact. By opening up the kitchen and ad-ding an alcove with a study, storage and fireplace, the problem of the relatively spacious groundlevel would be solved. Measuring the existing building, making a 3D-model, designing the interior and making presentations for the client were my res-ponsibilites in this project.

Natuurpodium|Bergen op Zoom

The Natuurpodium located in a natural reserve in the south of The Netherlands, is a new project by Personal Architecture. The natural reserve is popular with the Dutch for its wildlife and zi-pline activities, and had to upgrade their facilities. A stage in the middle of the building and a roof garden would give the op-

purtunity for the nature reserve to showcase it’s sustainable park management.Aside this exhibition space the stakeholders were also given their office in the new building, and a restaurant/café and kitchen café were designed for the visitors of the park.My responsibility was to finalize the draughts and to assist in the project management of the Natuurpodium.

Natuurpodium|Bergen op Zoom

Music Venue|Rotterdam

This existing building on the corner of a recently becoming po-pular street, is developed as a music venue and café. The relati-vely high space can be divided into two levels by constructing a steel platform to create a bigger area for the café owners.

Being in contact with the clients and the contractor and arran-ging the licences with the local government were my respon-sibilities. The model would be demonstrated at the communal building of the district.

Urban gentrification|Rotterdam

In this university project an urban area in Rotterdam called Pompenburg, had to be redeveloped. This area, has potentials for it’s direct position next to the CBD, but has a disadvantage of the railway dividing the district in two.As the appointed property owner of the district, I made a visionary socio-economic plan for the urban redevelop-

ment, looking into the value of the future properties.To incline the value of the area, attraction of the Rot-terdam citizens, was a must. A music stage would be created where now an old fuelstation was located. Phasing was an important aim in this project. Being able to think in phases and to overview the timespan of the vacancy of the building sites temporary retail stores were attracted in the area.
