RESUMO

Em 10 de fevereiro de 1957 nasce em

Santa Mariana, no estado do Paraná,

uma garota feliz. Já nasce artista.

Aos sete anos se divertia com tintas

produzidas a partir de terra, carvão

e cinzas, e com tintas de tecido de

sua mãe. Criava também pequenas

esculturas com argila que sua avó

recolhia perto de um rio. Ao entrar no

primeiro ano, seus cadernos tornam-se

o melhor suporte para suas criações: a

letra “a” rapidamente se transforma em

um macaco, por exemplo.

Desde então observa com carinho

e respeito a natureza, abominando

qualquer tipo de agressão para com ela.

RESUME

Tania Cotrim was born on February 10th,

1957 in Santa Mariana, Paraná, South

of Brazil. Her gift for arts appeared at

an early age while she started coloring

and painting with earth, charcoal

and ash or with her mother’s fabric

paints. The joyful little girl she was also

produced small sculptures out of clay

that her grandmother used to gather

up by the river. When entering school,

her notebooks quickly became the best

playground for creation: letter “a”, for

instance, turns into a monkey and so

on. An artist was born. Since then her

skills have not only been improved but

her creations have been turned into a

sustainable perspective of Art.

Objetivo da Artista

Através de seu trabalho a artista

procura levar as pessoas a uma

reflexão sobre os seus hábitos e

o impacto representado por sua

existência sobre o planeta. Nesse

sentido, lança mão de materiais

ecologicamente corretos como

tintas solúveis em água, e materiais

alternativos como jornal, OSB, filtros

automotivos usados, bem como

outros materiais que, de outra forma,

seriam descartados na natureza. Sua

obra traduz uma verdadeira filosofia

de vida, consciente e sustentável, ao

criar um modelo de arte compatível

com a atualidade de um planeta

pedindo socorro. Os trabalhos têm

tido uma boa recepção em todo o

Brasil por mostrarem que arte pode

ser feita com um mínimo de impacto

sobre o meio ambiente.

Purpose of the artist

The whole work of the artist has

been conceived under a sustainable

purpose. Tania Cotrim aims to get

people meditate on their way of living

and their footprint left on the planet.

This means operating some choices:

priority is given to environmentally

friendly materials such as water-soluble

paints and alternative materials like

newsprint paper, OSB, automotive used

air filters and other materials which

otherwise would be discarded in the

environment. Her art consists thus of a

real philosophy in a sustainable way,

that means, being compatible with

the Planet. This approach has had a

very positive acceptance and jobs have

currently been sold throughout Brazil

which confirms the artist´s purpose:

that art can be produced in a respectful,

responsible and sustainable way.

• 1970 - Learned how to paint on plaster and wood;

• 1975 - Graduated in Psychology at CESU-LON University;

• 1978 - Took china painting classes with Master Elisabety K Gonsales;

• 1980 - Followed classes on woodcarving with Master Paulo Menten;

• 1983 - Exhibited paintings at the Museu de Arte de Sao Paulo during the Pirelli Event in Curitiba, PR;

• 1983 - Learned woodcut with Master Paulo Menten;

• 1983 - Learned batik techniques in Cam-pinas, Sao Paulo;

• 1984 - Produced small accessories out of leather which were purchased all over Brazil;

• 1990 - Learned modeling and aluminum melting at Studio Luiz Trevisan;

• 1993 - Followed classes on clay modeling;• 1993 - Gave painting classes at Império

Part of the profit of the studio has

been reverted in the cause of animals

(stray reduction) in the city of Jaragua

do Sul. There, Tania Cotrim has been

encouraging donations for castration and

adoptions of animals. She also has been

in schools and businesses promoting

lectures for a more conscious possession

of domestic animals.
