The project is made up of two phases, one for each semester of the “architettura delle grandi strutture” course during the 5th year. The first phase studies an area characterised by a low concentration of human presence in order to convert it following a masterplan derived from a parametric study.Studying individual parameters achieved from a complex analysis it was found a solution that permit to create an integration with the surrounding area until the city centre of Elmas. The idea of permeability, organization, flows and focal point is the aim of the architectural composition. The second phase consists of the study of a disused building within the area, to bring new functionality to an old agricultural consortium. The multifunctionality of the new building is a part of the new masterplan, as is trying to create a good relationship between the different social ambits.

‘Musical composition and architectural composition towards an experimental of sonority and space way’The thesis investigates about the relationship between musical composition and architectural composition with the aim of creating a space - sound pattern.I created a simulation between human beings, images, softwares and sounds. I tried to understand what rules, what starting points it was able to suggest in order to move to the architectural composition phase. Every instrument creates different moods in a musical composition, and this process is the same as for architecture. As a musical composition gives different impressions, an architectural path is characterized by activities and events which bind or free the attention to these activities. The synthesis of the programme achieves the idea of “unique way” characterized by three macro-block and two link-systems that produce different effects, mood and feelings.

The refurbishment of a school is the aim of the design process, where a part of the building remains in the original state with a traditional design. The new build requires a new entrance and basically the new elevation wants to break the linearity of the old elevation. It is possible to create a useful flexibility that it is possible to find also in the idea of internal spaces, in fact there is a good balance of functions in the two storeys dividing the spaces into three large ambits: technology, body, education. The function of the circulation area is very important in order to permit a regular, simple and functional flow for the students and teachers.

A clear and logical plan with a strong flexibility forms a central circulation with voids and double height spaces incorporated to allow borrowed light to penetrate the lower areas and introduce architectural drama and a sense of connectivity between the upper and lower floor. The aim of the design is to give light to the classrooms, with breakout spaces to one side, and ancillary areas to the other, while externally the bold coloured spine wall of facilities forms a particular architectural feature, directing visitors and pupils towards the main entrance to be ‘caught’ by the office ‘pod’. Architectural elements such as the large overarching sloping roof ,the red spine wall and the stepping section create a strong focus for the school.

The concept design provides the development of a new masterplan, (in association with Atkins Glasgow Office ) of redesignation of part of Ahmadi City, consisting of a Shopping Mall and facilities, ten building offices and a transport interchange knot. In particular, the design of the Shopping Mall, inside of which are four cinemas and surrounding areas allow a clear identification of the structure, and an individual shape for the covering, which is harmoniously integrated with the panoramic platform view.

<my tasks> concept design of the hotel tower: development of glazed structure, stairs, strategy for the roof, concept design of the stairs and interior organisation of the standard spaces.

The design process starts from the concept of the “loop”, used as a physical concept because it is the generator of the roof but also as a continuity element between the different objects. The design comprises a striking composition of five major buildings. Two apartments and one office tower hover over a five storey sculpted shopping mall on one side of the site, and a 246.5 metre five star deluxe hotel tower (the tallest building in the country) is located at the prime area of the site.

A hybrid use building that combines facilities for NHS Diabetic Outpatients with a research function (MIDRU) with clinical interaction between the two halves, which will form the first segment of a new development masterplan, the ‘MediPark’. Heights are based upon the general hospital site pattern (2 storeys). Due to the 2:1 ratio of the floor plan (60m/30m), the visual character in terms of facades is largely composed of glazed elements, either transparent glazing or reflective spandrels on the short sides, while the long ones, with the horizontal window strips composed of white, are cream and grey flat metal panels break up the building volume, reducing any monolithic appearance.

Located, at the client’s instruction, in one of the most prestigious new developments within Dubai Marina, the design comprises an iconic residential building embodying a luxurious lifestyle that stands out as a dynamic and expressive signature in the Marina development. The irregular shape of the site as well as the complex horizontal and vertical interrelationships of spaces, services provision and accommodation has challenged the design team to produce an integrated, logical yet potentially dynamic solution (the Tower has a twisted form, rotating 1.8 degrees at each floor . The higher tower consists of 50 floosr and it is 235m high).

Located at the centre of Nakheel’s The Palm Jumeirah, a man made island standing as a powerful symbol of Dubai. Destined to maintain and enhance the tradition of Trump signature buildings, known all over the world ,the maintenance of the building’s visual aesthetic and landmark status is the main aim. The design process emphasises the natural vista, through the building to the top of the palm, creating two towers (high-rise structures having 47 and 60 floors each with a maximum height of 255 m) at the base that rejoin at a higher level in order to achieve dynamic asymmetric tension between the two perceived colliding objects.

Feasibility study of refurbishment and requalification/ of Hospital Complex “Queen Elizabeth”, in the proposed example of Nuffield House, providing a complete re-design of all internal spaces through an open space or a cellular layout, which gives extreme flexibility to the environment. This flexibility is further reflected in the choice and the organisation of the new furniture which differs in order to satisfy the use for each sub-zone, offering to the client multiple solutions in terms of layouts.

The new Academy will sit in the central of three plateaus which form the site. The plan has evolved with three wings creating the central courtyard, called the concourse (heart of the school offering informal hard play and a dramatic principal circulation space with excellent levels of natural daylighting and ventilation to the adjacent learning villages), while the main entrance is indicated by the enterprise hub which will be a significant landmark expressed as a large rotated glass cube structure. Clearly defined zones for outdoor sports are provided for both the school and local community, although vehicular and service access has been separated from cycle and pedestrian approach.

The project starts from the analysis of an old building in Carbonia subjected to a partial refurbishment. The feasibility styduy tends to create 2 different offices starting from a compact block. The design process is born studying the different layouts for two specifical uses: medical laboratory and lawyer office.Due to a specifical restrictions the access for the two spaces is the same so a system of waiting room is provided to divide different flows for different activities. The second phase of the project was concerned by the design of the internal spaces, from the new floor style to all the furnitures.

The aim of the project is the requalification of an open area just outside the reception hall of the luxorious hotel “Le Dune” at Forte Village Resort. The prestige of the resort and strict link with the nature dictate a really accurated investigation in terms of design and materials. After a feasibility study the analysis was directed to the composition of a lounge area. The key point of the project is the creation of a brand new style of the bar-desk using the Okumè wood (it is the best choice for the sea environment) and waterproof membranes. All the facilities are designed using the same principles.

The aim of the project is the requalification of an half-open area just outside the discoteque of Forte Village Resort. The area has an important flow of people during the whole day moving from the leisure zone to the suites ones so it has been designed a key point where it is possible having meal or just a drink in a strict contact with the surrounding nature. The idea gives a quality design to the area using an “urban language”, so the main impact is the introduction of a luxury recreational vehicle: the airstream. The importance of this project has been highlighted by the partnership with the vodka brand, Stolichnaya. The layout of the area produced an interesting collaboration with the brand for the advertisment concept of all furniture. The material choosen is the wood in order to follow the same language of the environment and solid-surfaces (WPC).

The aim of the project is the requalification of an open area in the sport area of Forte Village Resort. The area is strategically important as it is the key point of all entertaining activities of the resort like sports, boat trips, excursions, etc.Refurbishing an old store surrounded by the nature, the programme creates different zones so the people flow changes and depends on the different needs.A leisure area, where LCD screens give information in loop, has been thought as a chill out and social point while different corners provide the main concierge and the smaller boat concierge. The idea of portholes in the structure creates a good filter between the area and the nature. All the materials used for the structure and furniture are ecological and the hypothesis of solar panel on the top of the roof creates a completely renewable-energy area.

MUSICAL HEIGHTSThe overall idea of the project tends to create the flexible use of space inside an urban area that at the moment has a lot of unexpressed qualities. Starting with the analysis of the context; I investigated about the activities, flows and historical tradition of Cremona City and I identified different major points where the area could increase on its own features. The architectural composition process is similar to the musical one. I built up different configurations; generated from social parameters, which determinated 5 different types of urban styles inside the area. Lighting, meeting and green areas are the features that give different feelings to the different configurations. The aim is to give people an open space that makes them feel linked with the city in order to share points of view, problems and happiness.
