About Jette Mul

I am a 25 year old ambitious Industrial Design Engineering student. When I am designing my focus is on prototyping and making mockups. I think this is a great tool that can help convincing clients and users. If people can experience a product, you have immediate result. I like to design in an iterative process which, in my opinion, contributes to the quality of the product. I want to design products that make a difference.

An inspirational environment and colleagues will help me to work as efficient as possible. A responsible and challenging task will keep me motivated and will show my most productive side.

FutureWhen I think about my future career I hope I can work in a positive environment with great people. In which I can perform a task that is challenging for me, gives me energy and creates something that helps people to have a better life in some way. Where that exactly is I am not sure yet. I hope I can figure that out very soon.

Children with cancer can feel very lonely with a hospital full of doctors. Vox is an interactive environment that helps to connect these children in the hospital. Every child between 6 and 12 years old gets a VoxBox when they check in for hospitalization. With this device they can record sounds, for example their own voice, but also the coffee kettle or dripping water. After recording, they can listen to their sounds or go to Vox. Vox is the sharing point. As soon as the VoxBox is connected to this sharing point the sound will be visualized on the surface of Vox. If another child connects with his device the sounds will be exchanged.

Jette’s contributionJette was in charge of the fabrication of Vox and the VoxBoxes. She made the drawings in AutoCAD and spent a lot of hours behind the lasercutting machine. Also the grid under the surface was her responsibility, the pieces of the puzzle were all made under her supervision

Improves the communication between the surgical team during a total hip arthroplasty

Jette’s contributionJette was in charge of the functionality of the prototype. She built the UHF RFID reader and buildt a program using Visual Studio Express to create visual output where the input was scanning a tag. The base of this system was an arduino with a cottonwood (UHF RFID) shield.

O.R. Vision is a RFID based system that can be used during a total hip replacement. During this surgery the view of the surgeon is limited. For hygienic reasons a drape hangs in the middle of the room which blocks the surgeons view. This drape does not contribute to the communication with the staff. Since the staff is not able to see the surgery, they do not know when to prepare for the next phase. O.R. Vision solves this problem: using RFID tags on the tools (that are suitable for sterilisation) and an RFID reader outside the sterile zone. The system can provide information to the staff through screens about the surgical process.

• System can gather statistics such as: how long does the surgery take and what is the most efficient phase.

• Two different screens, one for the scrubnurse and one for the rest of the staff.

Pro-K

How does it work? Both sides of the knee are supported with spiral torsion springs. These springs apply exactly the right amount of force for the user and the sport that is practiced. This brace supports the knee in its movement. Next to this, there is a warning system on one side of the knee. In consultation with a physiotherapist a certain angle of deflection can be set. When over deflecting the knee a clicking sound (warning system) is produced. If the right angle is set and the clicking sound is not produced during exercise, pain after exercising is prevented.

Pro-K is an innovative knee brace. It is specially designed for people with a knee injury. Most knee injuries require you to rest for a long time. A big problem with this knee injury is that people feel pain after the exercise. If they exceed their limits they will notice after exercising. This does not contribute to the healing process. With this brace you can start exercising very soon again and it contributes to the recovery process.

• The chosen spring is based on the measurements of the user and the type of sports he practises.

• The warning system can be adjusted by using pins.

• The foam on the inside is available in 5 colours, so the buyer can personalize his Pro-K.

• All of the 3 concepts had their own mockup.

• With 3D scans of my own knee I was able to model a perfect fit.

leKKerbagA picnic bag which can be fixed on your bike

Lekkerbag is a picnic bag which looks like a normal shoulder bag from the outside. Because of the shape and the special bands you are able to hang it on your bike while sitting in the grass. By doing this you can showcase your snacks and drinks. A small pocket on the outside with zipper can keep your personal items safe. This bag was specially designed for HEMA.On the inside there are six different pockets. Four small pockets for glasses or nuts, one pocket for a bottle of soda or wine and one pocket for a bag of crisps or a blanket to sit on. The outside of the bag is made of water resistant material so your snacks stay dry.
