INTERNATIONAL MYSTERY BOOK DISCUSSIONWhite Heat by M.J. McGrath

Age Group: ADULTSHalf Inuit and half outsider, Edie Kiglatuk is the best guide in her cor-ner of the Arctic. But as a woman, she gets only grudging respect from the elders who rule her isolated com-munity on Ellesmere Island. When a man is shot and killed while out on an “authentic” Arctic adventure under her watch, the murder attracts the attention of police sergeant Derek Palliser. As Edie sets out to discover what those tour-ists were really after, she is shocked by the suicide of someone very close to her. She is determined to find a possible key to this connection-a search that takes her beyond her small village, and into the far reaches of the tundra. White Heat is a stunning debut novel set in an utterly foreign culture amid an unforgiving landscape of ice and rock, of spirit ancestors and never-rotting bones.

OPEN FOR DISCUSSION: A DROP-IN BOOK DISCUSSIONThe Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey

Age Group: ADULTSIn this novel magical prose meshes reality and fairy tale. The next morning the snow child is gone, but they catch sight of an elusive, blonde-haired girl running through the trees. As Jack and Mabel struggle to understand this child who seems to have stepped from the pages of a fairy tale, they come to love her as their own daughter. But in the Alaska wilderness, life and death are inextricable, and what they eventually learn about Faina changes their lives forever. No registration required.

YOU AND YOUR MONEY

Age Group: AdultHaving a process for setting thoughtful and realistic goals and an active plan for guiding the spending decisions to achieve those goals is good money manners! In this third part of the series you’ll learn how to set goals using S.M.A.R.T criteria and develop a personal spend-ing plan to meet those goals. Many of our goals are better reached by growing our money; others by saving and preserving it. Examples on how to allocate your money to meet your shorter-term goals and to reach your longer-term goals will be presented. REGISTRATION REQUIRED
