Dredging To facilitate Existing Use and Develop Future Wharf Capacity
Recent Dredging: • 2010 950,000 maintenance dredging (PHPA) • 2010 5.5Mm3 capital dredging (AP3 FMG and RGP6 BHPB) • 2011 5Mm3 capital dredging – AP4 and SP1 & SP2 • 2012 2Mm3 capital dredging – SP1 & SP2 Future dredging: • AddiHonal 9 Mm3 in SW Creek • 6Mm3 cyclone moorings • 2Mm3 Hunt Point (Tug Haven) • 40Mm3 Outer Harbour • 1.5Mm3 Lumsden Point (approx) • Ongoing maintenance dredging requirement of approx 200-‐400K per annum (excluding outer harbour)
Port Records and Achievements
1 Million Tonnes on a Tide: 1,059,740t (15 Jan 2013)
Single Largest Ship: Abigail N – 297,430 dwt
Single Largest Shipment: Abigail N – 254,010t
Biggest Tonnage Month: December 2012 – 26.7Mt
Potential Outer Harbour Design
Tug Haven The new tug haven will be located at the harbour entrance.
New Tugs • 22 tugs, self-‐contained maintenance, fuel supply and administraHon
in cyclone rated facility.
• Larger 85t rotor tug fleet will offer improved towage operaHons for confined space operaHons in SW Creek, risk management, towage vessel capability, escort towage, redundancy etc.
PHPA’s Common User Utah Berth • Largest shipment -‐ ‘Duhallow’ – 120,300t (July 2012)
• Record month – August 2012-‐ 1,171,488t
• All customers are gedng allocaHon or above
• 360 trucks per day hauling to the facility during peak Hmes.
• 100% Cavotec usage on all vessels to berth
General Cargo – Existing Berths
The Need for Lumsden Point • Currently reaching capacity on Berths 1, 2 and 3 for exports of Copper and Salt.
• Currently reaching capacity on Berths 1, 2 and 3 in imports of fuel, Ammonium Nitrate and project cargo.
• MOF faciliHes at Anderson Point (FMG).
• New MOF at Finucane Island including contract loud facility (as part of tug pen development).
Non Iron Ore Trade Growth • General cargo acHvity linked to exports – Department of
Transport esHmates this at 1 – 1.5% of throughput.
• Cargo forecast, including general cargo, to grow from 4.9mtpa in 2011/12 to 9.2mtpa 2016/17.
• Capacity of 6.3-‐6.5mtpa at exisHng berths to be reached in 2012/13.
• Significant congesHon of the berths expected beyond this Hmeframe.
• Growth in export berths has not been matched by growth in general cargo berths.
