Conventions of a pop video

Page 2: Pop video analysis

• If the lyrics and the video didn’t go well together, people would be less likely to want to watch it.• The video usually has a link with the lyrics so that the two make sense

as one product, therefore enabling the viewer to be more likely to remember it and enjoy it.• This then means that the artist(s) will gain money from the views the

video gets and people may also download their single from something like iTunes, and then also go on to buy their album.

Editing the video

• For pop songs, the video is usually edited in a fast pace to reflect the pace of the song.• This then makes the song look a lot more happy and fun, as it creates

excitement.• If the aim of the video was to create sadness, there would most likely

be fade edits and the shots wouldn’t change so quick.

Costumes and props

• In the videos for pop songs, the clothing is usually bright to reflect how the song is fun. • These colours usually include green, pink and orange.• This then makes the video stick in people’s minds and they remember

the song so may end up buying it.• Because of the bright colours, it attracts the specific audience they

are trying to appeal towards.• Lighting also makes a difference to the video because a dark scene

wouldn’t create happiness.• Some companies put their products in music videos to get recognition

and to help sell their products.
