There are many convention of a pop music video. They are very easy to define as most pop music include one or more of the conventions I will be mentioning. They help to make clear to the audience the genre of the music video. With Pop music

video they are normally all about selling the artist to therefore help them sell songs.

Some conventions of Pop music videos include:

Bright colours

Lots of close up of the main artist

The artist within the music video are dressed in fashionable clothing and generally look very stylish

Bright lighting

The music video is normally up beat and normally has happy tones.

Sometime in pop music videos the artist can be portrayed as sex symbols this can then help the music sell more.

Lyrics are generally about love, falling in love and relationships.

POP MUSIC VIDEO CONVENTIONS

The example I will use for this is Girls Aloud – Jump. This video contains a lot of the pop music video conventions.

EXAMPLE

Throughout the video we see constant close ups of every individual of the girl group. This therefore helps the audience to see there different personalities.

The video shows the girls in all different colours but all the colours are bright. In addition to this all the outfits our different this then helps to enhance there personality.

The first line to the chorus is ‘Then, jump for my love’ showing the many theme to this music would be love.
