Introduction

Pop Culture is all around us It affects us much more than one might

think The fads and trends created from it

usually last for a brief time, and are created rapidly

Proposed Thesis

Fads are followed out of several reasons, and are created by many, whether intentional or not.

Pop Culture and What it Means

Defined as “cultural activities or commercial products, reflecting to, suited to, or aimed at the tastes of the general masses of people”.

Harmless Fads

Fads are for the most part harmless Fads usually are simply for fun or just a

common interest. Examples: The Hunger Games, Twilight,

the term “YOLO”, using apps as Temple Run and Draw Something, etc…

Negative Fads

Kony 2012 (to an extent) Other misleading charities/organizations Fad diets

Positive Fads

Stop SOPA/PIPA Kony 2012 (to an extent) Disaster Relief

Who Creates these Fads?

The Clothing Industries Several musicians, e.g. Drake, Lil

Wayne, and other popular artists High schoolers

Why are fads followed?

Fads could be followed for a number of reasons

Fitting in The majority is doing it Curiosity Insecurity Peer pressure

Example of Fads Affecting the World Indonesian women being driven from

their religious customs due to fashion and fads

Due to the extreme negative reaction to the proposed the SOPA and PIPA bills, they were reevaluated.

Conclusion

Fads are for the most part harmless and pointless, mainly for fun

Fads can affect the world in a much larger scope

Fads are created by many, and are followed for several reasons
