Congratulations!! On Sunday, December 14, 2014 while many people would be still enjoying the few hours of the

weekend by sleeping or having a warm mug of hot chocolate, thousands of spectators and several hundred runners convened in Providence for the annual Amica Jingle 5K Race.

The race was stacked with runners from all over New England and even with a few from further out. Little did they know, it would be a BMR junior who comes in first place of his division, breaks the finish rope on Dyer Street, and sets the record for the whole day.

This extraordinary athlete was Christopher Tringali.

utes and 35 seconds which also stands as his personal best thus far in his young career. This was not an easy accomplishment but one done with many years of rigorous training. While running for the school’s cross country team and the indoor and outdoor track teams, Tringali has had plenty of practice. Not only has he participated in the Corey’s Crusade 5K that’s held annually at BMR, but he has com-peted in the Amika 5K four other times prior to his victory.

When asked about how it felt to be the first to cross the tape Chris commented that, “I felt extraordinary relief that I had won the race. Months and years of hard work had finally paid off.”

He would like to personally thank Coach Maloney and Coach Morse along with his great teammates, who helped him make it to this great stage and milestone, and who are supporting him and getting him ready for another great achievement.

Competing in the Boston Marathon is a dream that he believes is attainable in the upcoming years. Congratulations again, Chris! You have shown your true purple and gold in proving that dreams are possible under hard work, extraordinary efforts, and determi-nation. Great job on this accomplishment.

n Music teacher Todd Shafer moves up to the high school

Todd Shafer is a new addition to the Blackstone-Millville Regional High School, but not the music department. He recently came from teaching music at the middle

and elementary schools and replaced the well-known Buddy.Regarding the music program in the high school, he sees

opportunities being offered to all students beyond BMR. Shafer wants to be able to reach to the expectation that has been set previously by Buddy, and maybe even raise the bar. Shafer hopes that next winter, the marching band will have the opportunity to march at the Gator Bowl Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida. He thinks that it is incredibly important to share experiences that past generations have gone through. He wants to bring the retro and nostalgic memories back, and show the parents that the music program can provide the same benefits to their children as they got when they were kids. Shafer says “BMR has a great music program, and we try to cater to all levels of commitment” regarding students who may or may not take music beyond the high school band.

Coached by Sarah Woodworth, the BMR Cheerleading team is bringing a lot of pep to this year’s basketball games. Varsity Girls and Boys basketball have the honor

of having the cheerleading team during their games throughout the season.

With practices Tuesdays and Wednesdays for two hours, the team is really shaping up. Amber from the team says that “cheer consists of stunts, tumbling, jumping, and other motions.”

Flyers are thrown in the air by bases while others do stunts like back handsprings and tucks. She says “the team is doing pretty good” and that “she likes being on the team”.

Their routine at pep rally really shows how much effort they give. With all of the hard work paying off, be sure to catch the Cheerleading team at any upcoming basketball games.

Mr. Philip Amylon is a first year substitute teacher at BMR this year. He is mainly taking the place of Mrs. Colahan while she is out on maternity leave. He teaches all of her classes, which includes three freshman classes, one class of seniors and a Literature Through Performance class. He’s very happy to have this opportunity because of the experience, not just being a substitute.

Mr. Amylon loves being around high school students because he finds them “interesting.” He also says that he loves seeing the passion in his students and learning about their dreams and how they plan to fulfill them in the future. He enjoys filling in for Mrs. Colahan, interacting with the students and learning from them. When he has free periods he is a float or a sub that goes to different classes when he is available. He would like to stay because he likes the BMR family and would

love to have a perma-nent position here as an English teacher.

As for his creative writing club it’s awe-some and the students involved are extreme-ly enthusiastic. He says that everyone there truly wants to be there and likes to write just as much as he does.

BMR’s indoor track team may be small in numbers, but this season the tiny squad has overcome its size with an overwhelming amount of heart. The coach this

year, Nate Morse, a young law school graduate and former mid-distance all-American, did not disappoint for his first year of coaching, and plans to lead the school’s outdoor track and field team to a successful season as well. He has led the team through tough track workouts, extensive core exercise, and has initiated a new dynamic warm-up to help his runners and throwers perform even better.

The boy’s team consists of sprinters Caleb Kinsman, Job Seffernick, Kyle Cotnoir, and Alex Roy; mid-distance runners Ian Reid, Mike Salley, Brandon Stovall, and Zack Morin; and a distance crew of Nate Carroll, Chris Tringali, Corey Gallagher, Nathan “Cheech” Seffernick, Griffin Reilly, Zach Taylor, and Connor McNamara. The boys have worked very hard this season, and have successfully beaten many much larger teams in the DVC, including Hopedale, Douglas, Nipmuc, St. Peter Marrion, and Monty Tech.

Not to be outdone, the girl’s team of sprinters Taylor Kudirka, Saralynn Spears, Arissa Boucher, Lily Jolicoeur, and Liz Strycharz; mid distance runner Haley Carroll, and distance runner Emilie “Face” Carroll have also been victorious in meets against Hopedale, Douglas, Nipmuc, St. Peter Marrion, and Monty Tech as well.

Three athletes who perform particularly well in their events are Nate Carroll (junior) who runs the mile, Taylor Kudirka (junior) who runs the 50 meter hurdles, and Saralynn Spear (sophomore) who runs the 55 meter dash and the 300 meter- will all compete in an exclusive Elite Meet at the Reggie Louis Center in Boston. These runners and hopefully several more from the team may soon reach their goals by qualifying for the Districts Meet and the State Meet from there. The team looks forward to ending off the season with a bang and many of the runners and Coach Morse hope for continued success in the outdoor season.

The BMR Chargers have many great sports teams. One with no exceptions would be the Varsity Boys’ Basketball team a tightknit group of dedicated athletes who are under the

direction and guidance of Coach Roe and Coach Euglow. The team is composed of seniors Tyler Brabham, Corey

Giguere, and Liam Shaw; juniors Devin Beroth, Mike Costello, Sam Partlow, and Justin Stone; sophomores Ryan Delgizzi and Ryan Olson; and freshmen Chris Gongoleski, Dylan Gregoire, Mike Marchand.

This team is made of a great group and a wide mix of person-alities which makes this team so awesome on both defense and offense. Mike Costello, a guard for the team, says, “The team as a whole is a great group of guys and while we are working hard we are having a lot of fun.” They are indeed working hard this season which started in the early days of December and is expected to go until mid-February. The team is working and looking forward to coming into their first win this season. This would be in addition to a whole list of close neck-to-neck games where the tension could be felt from a mile away. Let this be a lesson that a positive attitude and a love for a game is stronger than anything else.

Great job on your season thus far. There is still time to make all your goals and dreams reality. According to Mike Costello, “I would just say to improve as a team even more than we have already.” There is still a lot of time on the clock in the second half to make all these desires come true. Keep up the great work and “Keep Calm and Charge On.”
