Description:The Pohick Creek Tributary project was substantially completed on May 22, 2014. The project consisted of restoring approximately 1,314 linear feet of highly degraded tributary of Pohick Creek using natural channel design techniques.
Project Overview:• Establishment of new and stable channel geometry
• Reconnection of the channel with its floodplain by raising the stream bed
• Placement of a reinforced bed to prevent future incision
• Stabilization of the stream bed and banks, reduction of erosion, and improvement of habitats through the installation of various in-stream structures to include: Log Sills, Rock Sills, Boulder Riffles, Rock Step Pools, Modified Cross-Vanes
• Maintenance of existing stormwater management pond (clean & repair)
• Restoration of the site with native trees, herbaceous plants, and grasses to promote natural reforestation.
• Reduction of 1,736 lbs. of total nitrogen per year, 129 lbs. of total phosphorus per year, and 123 tons of sediment per year leading to the Pohick Creek.
