ARCHERY 101: You will experience the thrill of hitting the mark using a bow and arrow, thanks to the staff at Archery Addictions who will be instructing this class. Whether you’re interested in the sport for backyard recreation, competition target shooting, or hunting, you’ll learn about equipment selection, and get lots of hands-on instruction at the outdoor range.

ADVANCED ARCHERY: We will do plenty of 3D ani-mal target shooting in this class, with a focus on form and technique to improve and maintain accuracy. Proper equipment, shot placement, and recovery in a hunting setting will also be discussed. Please bring your own archery equipment for this class.

CROSSBOW BASICS: If you’ve never tried shooting a crossbow, it’s easy and a lot of fun. In this hands-on introductory course you will learn the basic functions and dynamics of the crossbow. Our instructors will cover modern crossbows and accessories, shooting and handling, responsibility, laws, and safety.

RIFLE MARKSMANSHIP: Come join us for fun and action on the firing range. Learn the fundamentals of marksmanship skills with an opportunity to shoot at targets with .22 caliber rim fire rifles.

INTRO TO SHOOTING SPORTS: The instructors at STSK – who you may have seen on the Outdoor Chan-nel – have set up this class in 3 stages covering 3 differ-ent types of shooting sports. You will learn shooting safety, the basic rules of shooting, and what shooting sports are all about. You will also have the opportunity to shoot at all 3 stages. This is an introduction to give you a taste of what you can expect when you get into local shooting sports. This could be the most fun you have all year! Note: This class is intended for experienced shooters and not a beginner class.

CONCEALED WEAPONS – SHOULD I CARRY?: If you are considering carrying a handgun for defensive reasons this course is for you. Participants will get a basic review of the application procedure to obtain a Pennsylvania concealed carry permit, learn the areas/circumstances where they can and cannot carry a concealed handgun, review available options to conceal a handgun, and most importantly, determine what situations would justify the use of deadly force.

HANDGUNS: A qualified instructor will provide a broad spectrum of information about the safe operation and fundamentals of shooting handguns. At the end of this class you will be capable of safely and confidently shooting a variety of different caliber handguns, and will have the opportunity to do so.

SHOTGUNNING/TRAPSHOOTING: You will be famil-iarized with different types of shotguns, ammunition, proper gun fit, and gun cleaning. Participants will have the opportunity to shoot clay targets on the range.

ADVANCED TURKEY HUNTING STRATEGIES: This class is for the turkey hunting enthusiast. We will be discussing and practicing different techniques to make you a more successful turkey hunter. Topics will include; advanced scouting techniques, safety tips on public lands, advanced strategies for early, middle and late spring season hunting, hunting henned up birds, pressured birds, proper calling for specific situations, dos and don’ts of using decoys, when to move and when not to move, proper equipment use, etc.

DEER HUNTING 101: Learn great tips to help make you a better deer hunter. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced deer hunter, there will be a lot of great information presented in this class. We will cover scouting, habitat, equipment, strategies, seasons, dos and don’ts, how to keep it fun and of course the white tailed deer.

ETHICS & SPORTSMANSHIP: This class is only for those women interested in hunting. We will present and discuss a variety of topics regarding situational ethics that a hunter may be faced with while enjoying her sport. A brief review of whitetail deer anatomy and shot placement may also accompany this presentation.

DOG TRAINING: Mark Wolfskill, proprietor of Pheasant Valley Farm, and Karen Shannon, guide and dog trainer at PVF, will present an overview of basic gun dog training, including basic field obedience, introduction to birds and gunfire, and a demonstra-tion of a simulated hunting situation using live birds.

FLY FISHING: Learn basic fly fishing techniques and gain the fundamental knowledge you’ll need to get started in the most refined form of fishing. The course also offers information which will help you select a rod and reel, line weight, baits, and lures.

ALL ABOUT BATS: Bats have been the source of myths and fears for centuries, and dispelling these misconceptions is as simple as knowing the facts. Learn the importance of bats in nature, common and endangered bat species, habitat, diet and life stages. We will cover what diseases bats may carry and review disease protocol. You will also learn helpful advice on how to bat-proof your home, as well as about bat houses and other things you can do to help.

COMPOSTING: Learn how to take kitchen scraps and garden waste and turn them into “black gold” to amend your soil. Compost also adds micro-nutrients and makes other nutrients more readily available for your plants. This will be a hands-on demonstration to get you psyched-up about starting your own composting at home.

SOAP CRAFTING: Also known as Melt & Pour Soap Making, this hands-on class will review different pop-ular techniques. We will start with a pre-made glycerin soap that you will melt and customize by adding scented oils and other ingredients like herbs, pow-dered milk, or clay. We will discuss other interesting things you can add to your soap, and finally, you will see how to package your works-of-art to impress. We will have a Q&A session before close. All participants will take home handouts and 2 bars of soap. *Additional $5.00 class fee required for materials.

BASKET WEAVING: This workshop is intended to give the beginner weaver a good start in learning the basics of basket making. You’ll have personal instruc-tion in creating a basket to take home. *Additional $5.00 class fee required for materials.

GEOCACHING 101: Geocaching is a tech-based trea-sure hunt that challenges participants to find hidden caches using a GPS. It has become the fastest growing sport in the world. This class will explain geocaching and how you can participate. We will also review the history of the GPS and, of course, go on a hunt or two.

CAST IRON COOKING: Why is this such a great way of cooking? Because you can make anything in a cast iron pan! Scrumptious roast meats, delightful vegetar-ian dishes, delectable hors d’oeuvres, aromatic breads and sinful desserts. This class introduces the basic skills required to cook with cast iron, along with cleaning and care of your investment.

OUTDOOR COOKING: Cooking in the great outdoors is a big adventure for most. A good starting point is to learn a few basic outdoor cooking methods, as well as types of available equipment. So, sit back, relax, and let Master Outdoor Chef Mike Vaka bring out the culinary genius in you.

OLD FASHIONED KETTLE PROCESSING: Let us share a Pennsylvania Dutch tradition of yesteryear. In this class you will watch a demonstration on how to make venison scrapple the old fashioned way, using kettles set up over wood fires. Plus, you’ll get to sample the finished product.

SELF DEFENSE: Effective self defense incorporates the mental attitude and physical fortitude to signifi-cantly raise the chance of removing yourself from a threatening situation. This workshop trains partici-pants to suppress panic and react immediately.

“HANDS ONLY” CPR: Most people who experience cardiac arrest at home, at work or in a public location, perish because they do not receive immediate CPR from someone on the scene. Learn the proper way to perform CPR using a CPR Manakin. You will not receive a certification, but will have better knowledge of this life saving skill.
