Education remains a top priority for both Dimension Data and Plessey. Our combined focus is on supplementary education with emphasis on Mathematics and Science and providing additional learning and teaching resources to previously disadvantaged pupils and public high schools in underserved communities across South Africa.

Beyond academic development, we are also committed to enhancing societal opportunities for young South Africans by encouraging, motivating and equipping them with the necessary skills to ensure they become positive social and economic participants.

Saturday School

The Dimension Data Saturday School initiative is a two-year programme that benefits 100 grade 11 and 12 pupils from 21 public high schools in Gauteng each year.

The learners in the programme come from schools in Tembisa, Midrand, Tokoza, Palmridge, Turffontein, Florida, Corronationville, Westbury, Bosmont, Diepsloot, Lanseria, Lion Park and Alexandra. Learners in the programme attend additional classes in Mathematics, Physical Science, Life Sciences, English, Computer Studies and Life Skills.

Learners are accepted into the programme in grade 11, following a stringent selection process based on merit, academic performance, communication skills, attitude and potential for leadership.

The Saturday School is located at Dimension Data’s Bryanston head office and tuition is provided by subject experts and qualified educators, as well as employee volunteers.

In addition to working through the formal syllabus, the learners receive leadership, entrepreneurship and social skills training, all aimed at preparing them for life beyond Matric. Grade 12 learners participate in the company’s work experience initiative, where they learn about various career opportunities available at Dimension Data and Plessey; in addition they are exposed to the ICT industry. They are also placed on a one year mentorship programme which assists in preparing for tertiary studies.

Established in 1994 with just 11 pupils, the Saturday School has consistently achieved a 100% pass rate and has assisted hundreds of learners to achieve their dreams.

The Saturday School initiative also includes the Winter School Programme for the Matric learners in preparation for their end of year exams.

Last year’s graduating class (the class of 2014) achieved 94% university entrance and 104 distinctions.
