Pleasure to Meet You!

Intro to American Lit. Assignment Amanda Henneberry

Page 2: Pleasure to meet you!

Hello! Nice to meet you all ^_^About me:

I’m an Art History major, minoring in English.

This is one of two online courses I’m taking this summer, (along with “Practical Grammar”), to complete my degree in August.

<<My color-coded book collection<<

(Located in the bedroom of my apartment, where I’ll likely complete most of the work for this class).

My favorite writers:

It’s difficult to narrow down and constantly changing, but some of my favorite authors include Patti Smith, David Mitchell, Lewis Carroll, and Antione de Saint-Exupery (pictured to the right, respectively).

Patti Smith is particularly awesome.I read her memoir, Just Kids, for the first time about two years ago (and a second and third time since then). It’s loosely centered around her relationship with the controversial photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, following the two from their meeting as broke/homeless “kids” in New York through their meteoric success in music (for Patti) and art (for Robert) and then to Mapplethorpe’s death from AIDS.

I believe her writing and story are equally incredible and highly recommend her work. Woolgathering is short and beautiful. She also recently came out with a new poetry book, M. Train, which I’ve been reading in between school assignments.

Also a great read…If any fellow students have taken a class with Professor Stoneback, you were probably assigned to read something he’d written at some point.

All reservations regarding someone putting their own work as “required reading” aside, Voices of Women Singing remains my favorite assignment from SUNY New Paltz. I’ve read it multiple times and have ordered copies for friends and family members as a gift. If you haven’t had to read it, or read it quickly in the midst of other assignments, I’d suggest ordering a copy (the crappy cover design does not speak for the greatness of the book).
