Please join the Greater Tehachapi Chamber of Commerce at our February Chamber Network Luncheon, Tuesday, February 17, 2015, 12:00 p.m. at Pacino’s Spaghetti Factory, 1100 Tehachapi Blvd, #A. Our guest speakers will be Supervisor Zack Scrivner with an update on Kern County and City Manager Greg Garrett with a review of the 2014 City of Tehachapi Annual Report.Zack Scrivner is Kern County’s Second District Supervisor, proudly serving the communities of Bakersfield, Boron, Caliente, California City, Mojave, Rosamond and Tehachapi. Elected to the Board in 2010, Zack served as Chairman of the Board in 2012, and represents the Board of Supervisors on Kern Council of Governments, Kern Land Agency Formation Commission (Chairman 2013), and the Kern Economic Development Corporation. Before his election to the Board of Supervisors, Zack served six years on the Bakersfield City Council, representing Ward 7. Zack's priorities are economic and private-sector job growth, in the areas of aerospace, alternative energy, manufacturing and logistics, as well as tough fiscal management of taxpayer dollars in county government. He has been an outspoken advocate for public employee pension reform in local and state government, and spearheaded Measure D, the successful ballot measure, approved by voters in the City of Bakersfield in 2010, which reformed the city pension system for newly-hired public safety employees. Continuing those efforts at the county level, Zack and the Board of Supervisors successfully negotiated for comprehensive pension and healthcare contribution reform with county unions in 2012. Greg Garrett is the City Manager for the City of Tehachapi and has served in that capacity since 2009 during which time he has overseen the completion of the City’s General Plan, directed over $20 million in infrastructure investments, and created an efficient organizational model that has maintained balanced budgets throughout the recent recession. Prior to serving as the City Manager, Mr. Garrett was the AssistantCity Manager from 2004 to 2009. Greg was instrumental in the successful revitalization of downtown, the development of several new parks, and major upgrades to the City’s Water and Waste Water structure. Most of the management philosophies he has put in place at the City come from his extensive private sector background. Prior to entering the public sector, Greg led successful teams as the Global Projects Manager at General Electric and the Vice President at Scaled Composites. The cost is $15 for Chamber Members, $20 for Non-Chamber members, which includes lunch.

Reservations are required. Please make your reservation by calling the Chamber at 661-822-4180. Reservation deadline is Friday, February 13, 2015.

Luncheon Sponsored by

The Tehachapi News is pleased to sponsor the February Chamber Network Lunch. We hope you'll join us for an informative program and networking.

If you live in Tehachapi, by now you should have re-ceived a copy of our newest publication, "Tehachapi's Own Resource Guide," in the mail. If you didn't get a copy, we have them at our office, at the Chamber office and elsewhere around town, and we'll have some at the luncheon.

The next edition of "Tehachapi's Own Resource Guide" will be published June 30, with an advertising deadline of May 15.

We have some other special publications coming up this year including a Spring Sports Preview on February 18 (ad deadline Feb. 2) and a special tribute to the Tehachapi Cummings County Water District, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

“It’s About Water” will publish on March 4 (ad deadline Feb. 13) and will include information about the history of this important public agency as well as its future and water conservation tips.

With our weekly newspaper reaching virtually every-one in the Greater Tehachapi Area, a variety of special publications, and our website, TehachapiNews.com, the Tehachapi News continues to reach more people, more often, than any other publication and we invite you to meet with our advertising staff to discuss how our prod-ucts can benefit your business — very affordably!

Be sure to ask about discounts available — we can save you 5 to 15% or more with planning.

For more information call us at 822-6828.

Employers Must Post Job-Related Injuries Summary by February 1

HRWatchdog - California Chamber of Commerce

(January 28, 2014) HRWatchdog would like to remind employers that they must post the Form 300A summary of job-related injuries and illnesses from 2014 at their place of business no later than February 1, 2015.

Employers are required to post only the summary (Form 300A) — not the Form 300 (Log) — by February 1 and keep it posted until April 30. The summary must list the total number of job-related injuries and illnesses that occurred in the previous year and were logged on the Form 300.

Companies with no recordable injuries or illnesses in the previous year must post the summary with zeros on the “total” line. A company executive must certify all establishment summaries.

The summary is to be displayed in a common area where notices to employees usually are posted. Employers must make a copy of the summary available to employees who move from worksite to worksite, such as construction workers, and employees who do not report to any fixed establishment on a regular basis.

Companies that had 10 or fewer employees at all times during the last calendar year do not need to keep Cal/OSHA injury and illness records. Employers with 11 or more employees, except those covered in the California low-hazard establishments in the retail, service, finance and real estate sectors, must display the totals from the Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses (Cal/OSHA Form 300A) wherever employee notices are usually posted. If there is more than one business establishment, a separate summary must be posted in each physical location that is expected to be in operation for one year or longer.

The Loop newspaper is a family owned business, and we are dedicated to being the source for community news and upcoming happenings for the greater Tehachapi area. We celebrate our community by including aritcles from local contributors, featuring adoptable pets from local humane societies, and highlighting local artists, community members and non-profit organizations. Our popular publication is readily available for free where people shop and eat; online at www.theLoopNewspaper.com; and we also offer subscriptions for the cost of mailing. With our readership and affordable advertising rates, you can’t lose. Give The Loop a call today at (661) 822-8188 and we will help you fit us into your advertising budget. We help Tehachapi businesses get more for their advertising dollar through planning. Keep in mind that it takes more than one ad to build awareness and to stay top-of-mind. Have you noticed Coca-Cola and other well known companies are continuing to advertise? There’s a good reason for that: In general people are too preoccupied to pay attention to most advertising. A reader may only glimpse at your ad in the first issue, miss it entirely in the second, and then fully notice it by the third issue. It’s important for both new and established businesses to continue to let people know you want their business. To maximize your response we highly recommend a three-issue run as the minimum amount of advertising needed to help build awareness, and to aide you in figuring out if print advertising works for you. At The Loop newspaper we offer personalized ad design by our team of talented graphic designers whose expertise go into fashioning attention-getting messages. The Loop newspaper also enjoys a valuable partnership with the Chamber. Our staff regularly attends the Chamber luncheons, grand openings/ribbon cuttings, and evening mixers. We have found the networking opportunity to be essential to our business’ success. We encourage all Tehachapi businesses and individuals interested in business and economic development to plan to attend Chamber functions. We look forward to meeting you there. In closing we would like to say an emphatic “Thank You!” to all the amazing people who support us: Our readers, contributors and advertisers! Thanks to everyone’s support we are able to be free! We are free to put in what we value as community news. We are free to focus on local good news and free to let you know about events before they happen. Give The Loop a call today at (661) 822-8188. We’d love to hear from you.
