Proposals - Jump Genre This type of magazine is a Dance and Clubbing magazine, which will attempt to compete with similar magazine such as: Mixmag, tilllate and shook. Title The connotations behind ‘Jump’ is that it’s the type of atmosphere at a festival which is what I want to re create in my magazine. It is also an active name which I want my magazine to seem like. I have been inspired by the ‘tilllate’ title as it connotes that their readers are up late. Font The font is big and loud which connotes the type the readership which I have and also what the music is like.

needs by including information about new artists, debates and conversations.

Psychographics

• 16-21• The magazine aims at young males and

females who are interested in going to festivals and clubs. This is majority of students.

Page 4: Pitch script for my magazine idea

Demographics

• The target audience goes into the E, D categories as they are mostly students or unskilled workers who will buy this magazine as they are the youngest in the hierarchy.

• There spending power will then be a lot less so my magazine won’t be too expensive.

• But for the first year it’ll be £4.99 to cover financial costs but I aim to reduce that over time.

Intentions

• The competitors for my magazine are mainly going to be Mixmag as, they are the market leaders, they also are already a very established magazine in the same genre and they provide similar content to me. Other competitors are: tilllate and Shook. These magazine aren’t as popular as Mixmag although they are in the same genre and we will be at the same market level when we start production.

• Content The magazine will include articles about; news and popular artists, festivals reviews and exclusive interviews. Each of these will be accompanied by lots of photos. Also it’ll include big and small artists for a wider variety of people and also people who have musical influence. Some artists will include: Deadmau5, Carl Coxs and MR G. The reviews and articles will be about new festivals. Such as; brownstock festival, hijacked festival and outbreak festival.

• The mood board is colourful and happy which I have transferred into my magazine front cover. The blue and purple swirls is what I have used for my front cover.

Page 9: Pitch script for my magazine idea

Mood board conclusion

• The pink and blue stripes and swirls on the mood board connote lights which can be similar to the ones at night clubs or festival lights.

• The swimming pool is their represent the feeling of summer. The water connotes the feeling of weightlessness which is like being relaxed which is what I want this magazine to connote.

• The paint splatters and explosion are their to connote how bright the magazine is.

Hose styles• The colour scheme is going to be a blue, pink and white. The

magazine front cover is supposed to connote summer and relaxation. The colour blue is supposed to connote the summers sky or a swimming pool like from the inspiration on the mood board.

• I have decided to include pink more in my magazine than any other colour as it should attract more females into reading it as the majority of the readership is male.

• Magazines in this genre won’t use a lot of pink but very dark colour which I think puts off female viewers and my magazine can gain the female readership as other magazines have not adjusted to their values.

First issue – Before and After

Page 18: Pitch script for my magazine idea

ImprovementsThe original front cover wasn’t fit for purpose because of a variety of different reasons which had to be changed. The biggest issue with the front cover was that the cover image was too unconventional as John still had his school bag on and he also wasn’t looking at the camera. So I retook the photo. Now John is looking at the camera and smiling. He also doesn’t have his bag on. Also the mast head as over his head which I was able to put behind him by moving the layers. Another text issue was the cover story font style was too big. I was able to reduce the gap between the letters so it was the same size but didn’t take up too much space. Another improvement I made was that the text needed to be inside the barcode. I did this by inserting a black white box behind the text.
