Pirie’s Mission
Our mission is to enhance the academic success of ALL students through the integration of fine arts and data driven instruction in order to promote college readiness at all grade levels. Our goal is to ensure that every student is given an opportunity to learn in an environment that is safe and provides a challenging instructional program that is differentiated, integrated and meets the academic and social needs of all students to promote success in future educational and life endeavors.
Common Core standards are:
• Aligned with college and work expectations• Include rigorous content and application of
knowledge through high order skills• Build upon strengths and lessons of current state
standards• Informed by top performing countries, so that all
students are prepared to succeed in our global economy and society, and
• Evidence and/or research –based.
Common Core standards for English language arts articulate rigorous grade-level expectations in the areas of speaking, listening, reading, and writing to prepare all students to be college and career ready, including English language learners.
The standards for the Mathematical Content are a balanced combination of procedure and understanding. The standards
for mathematics focuses on 8 Mathematical Practices:
1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them
2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively
3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
4. Model with Mathematics
5. Use appropriate tools strategically
6. Attend to precision
7. Look for and make use of structure
8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning
