Focused Shockwave for the treatment of acute and chronic pain syndromes of the musculoskeletal system
PiezoWave VET
Extracorporeal shockwaves have been
used successfully in the treatment
of chronic pain since the early ‘90s.
Extracorporeal shock wave therapy
(ESWT) and trigger point shock wave
therapy (TPST) are highly efficient,
non-surgical treatments for chronic
pain in the musculoskeletal system.
The PiezoWave Vet from Richard Wolf
unites orthopaedic ESWT applications
with the applications of TPST and
represents a significant expansion
of the application spectrum in
myofascial pain syndrome. The
extracorporeal, focused shock wave
allows precise diagnosis and therapy
of active and latent trigger points.
Trigger points are thickened, pain-
sensitive points within a usually
tense muscle. They can cause a
variety of pains – even well away
from their own location.
Expanding your non-surgical
musculoskeletal treatment
options
The PiezoWave Vet is a compact and
very mobile ESWT unit for individual
therapy options.
• Much quieter than other ESWT
products so patients are more
compliant
• Cost of ownership is considerably less
that other focused ESWT products
• Low energy protocols allow you to
avoid patient sedation
• Non-invasive alternative that satis-
fies your client‘s non-surgical needs
Advantages in ESWT
• High, clearly defined depth of pe-
netration
• Highly accurate treatment
• Maximum energy directly in the
treatment area
• No skin irritation
• Low risk of haematoma
• Practically maintenance-free
Indications
• Diseases of the tendons and
synovial sheaths
• Chronic joint disease (wear,
functional restrictions)
• Changes to the vertebrae
(spondylosis)
• Deformities of the hip (HD hip
dysplasia)
• Acceleration of bone growth
following fractures
Advantages in myofascial
treatments
• Transportable, focused ESWT
system
• Deep penetration up to 40 mm
• Treatment with a pulse frequency up
to 8 Hz
• Precise localization of trigger points
and pain spots
• Broad range of applications
• Individual therapy options
• Long working life – extremely
economical
Gentle therapy for chronic pain
PiezoWave VET
How it works
The heart of the Richard Wolf
PiezoWave Vet is the compact
piezo shock-wave source with its
outstanding characteristics.
The device is simple to control from
the top panel of the multifunction
operator control and display unit.
All the device parameters can be set
and monitored with precision.
At the therapy source, the depth of
penetration can be varied by using
gel pads of different thicknesses.
A further advantage is the large-area
energy coupling with an aperture
angle of 94°. This lowers the energy
density at the surface of the skin
and reduces pain. 20 intensity levels
allow finely adjusted application
of energy and treatment without
sedation.
Treatment Effects
Analgesia
Hyperstimulation analgesia
• Excitement of the inhibitory system
• Inhibition of spinal afferents
(gate control)
Activation of the metabolic
system
• Release of Nitric Oxide
• Vascular endothelial growth factor
(VEGF)
• Bone morphogenetic protein
(BMP)
• Substance P
• Migration of mesenchymal stem
cells
Treatment
200 - 2000 Shockwave impulses
depending on the size
of the animal and the size of the
application area.
Single-layer technology:
Peak pressures of up to
82 MPa and energy flux
density of up to
