KUKA has come a long way since their humble beginnings in China with only four workers. Today, KUKA has around 1,800 stores worldwide. They export to 186 countries and have their own tannery and two main upholstery factories in China with certification, advanced technologies including a comprehensive leather test laboratory, and strict methods of quality control that enable them to meet production demands down to the most minute detail.

A new production facility is expected to be completed by the end of 2013. The skilled craftsmen and women work on every stage of the sofa in the KUKA factories; the human touch is conspicuously present in a KUKA sofa even with the advanced technologies that make it possible. PICKET&RAIL carries a plethora of the finest KUKA top-grain leathers in an array of colors. The grains of KUKA leathers have been corrected (sanded, buffed or snuffed) to even the textures and imperfections and embossed to make for a beautiful leather surface pattern.This embossing also makes the leathers softer and retains their characteristic feel and elegance.

Dacron and down feathers are used in the filling for the upholstery of KUKA sofas forthat extra lush softness. KUKA utilizes superior materials such as kiln-dried European larch wood and multilayer high resilience foam from the top foam maker in the industry—applied at six different densities—in their heavy-duty construction that also incorporates a built-in sinuous spring and highly tensioned elastic rubber webbing system and corner reinforcement blocks. High resilience foam is used in the construction of most expensive furniture as well as in yacht and boat building. In central Europe, larch is an immensely desirable wood in the building of houses due to its tough properties.

KUKA has their own dedicated foam, wood mill and hardware factories so they have direct control over the quality of the materials used in the construction of the sofas.

The KUKA technology makes it possible to recline fully in just a few seconds with a gentle touch of the built-in sensor in the side of the sofa. The back of the sofa reclines and the footrest extends soundlessly to elongate the seat for ultimate comfort.

For reclining sofas with handles on the sides of the sofa, pulling out the handle opens up the sofa by extending the footrest and lowering the backrest simultaneously. Returning to the original upright position is as simple as pushing down on the footrest while sitting upright.

Natural Characteristics of LeatherIt all comes back to the senses. Leather—probably the longest-wearing natural upholstery fabric available—looks elegant, feels sensuous and has a distinctive smell.

Leather, like cattle, has variations.Each piece of leather will exhibit its own unique characteristics, markings and subtle shadings such as grain and texture variations, wrinkles, pores, healed scarring (such as from thorn scrapes, cuts, insect bites, barbed wire and brands), stretch marks and slight color differences. These imperfections do not significantly affect the integrity and performance of the leather and are actually desirable as they give your leather its character and enhance its beauty. Because leather is a natural, porous material, it absorbs dyes and finishes differently and to varying degrees. Every single leather sofa is thus unique in both looks and personality with their own characteristic markings.

Leather is so strong it is virtually impossible to puncture or tear without great force. A seam in leather is 50 percent stronger than a seam in fabric.

Leather is breathable and helps regulate temperature by absorbing and releasing humidity through natural pores. This means that your KUKA leather sofa will be warm when the weather is cold and cool when the weather is warm. Leather also ages very well and increasingly conforms to your body over time so you are essentially breaking it in to make it perfectly accustomed to you. Because leather is a natural material, it will stretch and crease over time. Using your KUKA leather sofa will add nuances and individuality to its looks as well as heighten its natural comfort.
