Introduction This lab was about adding

vectors, balancing forces and learning how to use the force table.

Page 3: Physics lab report

Objectives

To reinforce what we have learned about adding vectors, resultants and equilibrant forces.

To gain some experience using a simple force board.

Procedure

What we did first was that we set up the force table.

What we did next was that we set up the table for the trial 1. 1. Since we were using metric masses,

we added 200 g. to the three ends of both string 1 and 2. We added 350 g. to string 3.

2. After this, we arranged the pulleys so that string 1 was positioned directly over the 0° mark and string 2 is positioned over the 55° mark.

3. After that we moved the third pulley until the ring in the center was exactly centered over the peg.

4. Later, we estimated the angular position of string 3 to the nearest tenth degree and recorded the measurement under Direction of F 3 in Table 1.

Trial 2 1. We replaced the mass on string 1 with

a mass of 150° but kept the pulley at 0°. 2. After that, we added 50 g. to the 200

g. mass on string 2 and moved the pulley to 65.0° .

3. We placed string 3 approximately over the mark of 340°.

4. Then, we moved string 3 and added additional mass to the string as necessary until the ring was centered over the peg.

5. Finally we recorded the magnitude of the force for each string and the direction of the third stting in Table 1.

Conclusion

As a conclusion we can tell that we were able to see how mass can affect the magnitude and direction of a force.

We also learned to used the force scale.
