What are the legal ramifications if a dietary supplement doesn’t dissolve according to USP standard? None. Since supplements are regulated as food rather than as drugs, the FDA has no power to enforce any dissolution standard. A supplement company would be perfectly within its rights to create a vitamin/mineral pill that, in effect, sinks like a stone through the GI tract and passes from the body intact.
