Photograph Selection for Outfit 3 (LO4)By Olivia Lewis-Brown

Image 1This high angle medium long shot I selected for its use of direct address and focus to define the outfit as well as accessory details on the models face and body. The direct address immediately grabs the attention of the audience, the use of her hands to bring attention to her face also showing her collection of bangles as well as advertise her glasses. The flower motif with the flowers in her hair keeps with the continuous spring style incorporated.

Images 2 and 3This long shot I selected for its full view of the models outfit and for the mise en scene colour scheme which compliments the light blue of the dress perfectly. However I did not choose this image as my final spread choice because of the slight out of focus because of model movement and the use of manual focus on the DSLR camera. The low key lighting also gave no colour which for my theme of spring is a recurring mise en scene motif I wanted to include in all my photos.

This birds eye shot of my model looking up at my camera was my second choice for my third spread as the balance of the mise en scene with the detail of the moss in the background added colour and defined the bright colours of the flowers in my models hair. The use of direct address and the bright blue of the models eyes was a striking attraction to the image. However the high angle make it harder for the viewer to see the models entire outfit, a main focal point I wanted to include throughout.

This low angle long shot was effective in showcasing the entire outfit while the natural lighting combined with the darker colour scheme of the mise en scene made the main focal point of the model stand out. However I did not utilize this image as the lack colour was not appropriate for my theme of spring as the connotations of springtime as a season involved vivid colours and bright tones with high key lighting which are not established in this image.

Final Spread Image Selected

This image is a perfect candidate for my fashion spread as the bright green leaves in the mise en scene and the plain foreground define the outfit colours of my model and keep with the colour scheme established as the conventions of springtime. The medium long shot is perfect for showing the outfit in detail and the models hands help frame her face drawing attention to all areas of the image.
