Origion of the word- Greek words, “philos”(love), “sophia”
(wisdom). Philosopher-who Loves the Wisdom
Definition- It is a science that seeks to explain the
ultimate cause of everything by the use of human reason
alone.
Teleological or Consequentialist ethics
If the result of an action is right, then the action is right itself.
Deontological ethics
If an action is good, then the result of this action will also be good.
Virtue ethics
It doesn't judge actions as right or wrong but rather the character of the person doing the actions.
The Absolutist theory is the theory that certain things are
right or wrong from an objective point of view and cannot
change according to culture.
The relativist theory is the theory that there are no
universally valid moral principles. All principles and
values are relative to a particular culture or age.
When you steal something…
o In Absolutist ethics- You must be punished
regardless with the situation.
o In Relativist ethics- You can be justified if you
can not earn your living.
Relative ethics-can justify
anything, even bad ones-
“this is a right thing to do”
“because everybody does it”
Absolute ethics- can lead to
intolerance.
