Origion of the word- Greek words, “philos”(love), “sophia”

(wisdom). Philosopher-who Loves the Wisdom

Definition- It is a science that seeks to explain the

ultimate cause of everything by the use of human reason

alone.

Teleological or Consequentialist ethics

If the result of an action is right, then the action is right itself.

Deontological ethics

If an action is good, then the result of this action will also be good.

Virtue ethics

It doesn't judge actions as right or wrong but rather the character of the person doing the actions.

The Absolutist theory is the theory that certain things are

right or wrong from an objective point of view and cannot

change according to culture.

The relativist theory is the theory that there are no

universally valid moral principles. All principles and

values are relative to a particular culture or age.

When you steal something…

o In Absolutist ethics- You must be punished

regardless with the situation.

o In Relativist ethics- You can be justified if you

can not earn your living.

Relative ethics-can justify

anything, even bad ones-

“this is a right thing to do”

“because everybody does it”

Absolute ethics- can lead to

intolerance.
