My Hockey StickBy: Eric

“Yes!” I whispered excitedly, making sure I wasn’t too loud. I wanted to scream and shout but I knew if security heard me I would get in trouble. I was at the Islander game. Martin Biron just handed me his hockey stick. Now it is mine. I looked at the knob. It was tall and cool. Then my dad and I drove home. I put it in my room and stared at it. The next day I put it in the basement. When I look at my pro collection I am so thrilled because these hockey players are role models for a lot of people. I look up to them because I want to be a hockey player when I grow up.

What Now WorldBy: Campbell

It was a cold Saturday morning and I was standing on the beach with my arms crossed trying to stay warm. The reason why I was standing on the beach on August 10th at 7:45 when it was 60 degrees was because I was getting ready for a surfing contest. My hard pointy Canyon surfboard was sitting on a beach chair with a towel over it. At about 8:30, I started warming up. Then at 9:00 we stopped. At 9:15 the older heat went. During their 20 minute run my friend and I looked through the judge’s binoculars. It was awesome! After their 20 minute run, we got ready. Finally, it was our turn. When the judges blew the horn, we sprinted into the water. It was freezing! Then we paddled out and we waited for a wave. We didn’t have to wait very long! I was sprinted like Michael Phelps and in a matter of seconds we were on our way! At the end of the day, I had one wipeout. The rest of my runs were clean. I tried to walk light on my feet but it was useless. I almost fell twice. I put my board down and sunk into my chair. Then it was the time we’ve all been waiting for - Awards time! After they announced the older heat, they announced my heat. “First place for the girls goes to Miller. First place for the boys goes to CAMPBELL! Second place for the boys goes to Holden!” I shook hands with Holden and smiled for a picture. I was so happy I had won my first surfing contest. WHAT NOW WORLD!

My New DogBy: Shane

It was a cool day for playing outside so I was stuck in my house. As I was coming down the stairs, I heard a strange noise. Something was shaking around in my family room. “Could it be my birthday present?” I thought. Then, I heard crying. This made me feel nervous; I didn’t know what it could be. I went into my family room to see what was there. I walked in and saw a metal cage, it was my new dog! I ran over to the cage and I let him out. He started to fight with my other dog, Knuckles as soon as he found him. Knuckles just barked at him. I called my parents to come downstairs to see what I had found! We started to think of a name for him right away. My dad wanted to name him because I named Knuckles. My dad chose Henry, just like his dog when he was little. Ever since that day, Henry has been an important member of my family.

The Ski Lift By: Emily Q.

“Thump!” that’s all I could hear as I fell off the ski lift. It was a cold winter day in February. My family and I went to Windham to ski for 3 days. I was ready to ski. I was puffy and warm from all of my ski clothes. It was hard to move. I saw my friend Rosie coming fast down the mountain. When she got to the bottom of the mountain, we talked for a couple of minutes. Then someone said we should all go skiing on G lift together. Then we went and got on line. It was not too long, but it was long enough. It only took 15 minutes to get on the lift but it felt like forever. Finally, it was our turn. My Dad, my brothers, and my Mom went up first. I went up with Rosie and her Mom after them. My Mom, Dad, and brothers were up there before us. When we got to the top I slipped and “plat” I fell off the lift into the cold, icy snow. My face turned red from the cold. I was afraid that I had hurt myself. I laid there for a few seconds with my face in the snow. The lift was coming. I could hear the rusty pole on top moving the lift. No one was on it but I went right under it! It was scary. Rosie’s mom helped me up. My skis fell off so I had to put them back on. When I got my skis back on and got back up on my feet, I was ready to ski with my family and friends. My brothers came running over to me. They saw the whole thing and wanted to know if I was okay. My mom called me over and gave me a big hug. She asked “Are you okay?”As soon as my mom knew I was okay, we started skiing. When we got to the bottom my brother Drew told everyone what had happen. I asked, “Can we go again?” and all the parents said, “Yes.”

Getting My Room DoneBy: Erika

“I don’t like pink on my walls!” I screamed loudly. I had two colors, violet and pink, to pick from. I decided to choose violet because I have too much pink!!! Pink shirts, pink pants, pink sweaters, and even a pink chair! I saw the workers bring the paint up to my room. Then, they shut the door on me! They even locked it. I was so angry! The next day, it was all on my walls but still soggy. It was fantastic and bright. I loved the cool, new paint color. “That was the best day ever!” I thought. Something happened the next day. It was something beautiful. I went to my room and there were sparkles on my walls. That was a surprise! When my mom saw it with me, I was so excited about it. I had an enormous smile on my face and I realized this was the best day ever. My room is wonderful!

I’m The BestBy: Brooke

I was standing at my desk with a huge smile on my face. My smile was so big you could see almost all of my teeth. I could not wait to start the last project of the school year! I was in 3rd grade and it was the end of the school day. It was very noisy. All I heard was talking! “I left a note in everybody’s scrapbook,” explained Ms. P. I was losing my patience! I really wanted to get my scrapbook and read my note. As Ms. P. was handing out the scrapbooks I was wondering, “What did Ms. P. say about me?” I also wondered if Ms. P. said that I was great at so many things. I knew Ms. P. would write positive things in a student’s note. So, I was not worried to read it. When I finally got my scrapbook, I was so excited to read my note! I was amazed at what my teacher wrote about me! Ms. P. said that I was one of the best students she ever had! I was so proud of myself and so happy that Ms. P. loved me! I couldn’t believe what had happened. I had such a happy face on me! That afternoon, when my mom picked me up from afterschool, I told her right away. I couldn’t wait until we got to the car, so I told her in the hallway. From that day on, Ms. P. has been my favorite teacher!

Babysitting JaniyaBy: Sydney

Laughter filled the house as Janiya ran from one room to another. It was a cool summer night in Florida. I was babysitting my cousins. We were at my grandma’s house. My grandma was at the supermarket. My cousins were watching TV. MY two-year- old cousin Janiya was behind the bed. She took off her diaper. Then she ran around the house bumping into the walls. We took a towel and put it on the floor so she could sit on it.Finally my grandma came home. My cousins and I were laughing so hard. My Grandma said, “Calm down. Tell me what happened.” My grandma said, “WHAT?” after we told her. She was so surprised. My grandma put a diaper on Janiya. That was the most hilarious babysitting night ever!

The ChaseBy: Grace

Something was shaking in the attic! My dad went to check it out. Then three raccoons popped out and ran all over my beach house property. I wanted to go back to bed because it was 6:00am, but I couldn’t because my mom would be home soon. She wouldn’t be very excited about raccoons running all over. My dad and I started to chase them. I caught the first one after chasing them for twenty minutes. She was the youngest. I named her Kayla. She felt soft, warm, and fuzzy. She was tiny because she was the runt. I carried Kala over to my dad and asked, “What should I do with her? “There is cage in the garage. Put the raccoon in it,” said my dad. “Call her Kayla,” I said. “No do it now,” said my dad. So I did. I watched her awhile wondering what my dad was going to do with them. Then my dad called me over and asked me, “What should we do with them?” I thought for a minute then said, “Can you drive them to a forest?” My dad loved that idea! My dad caught the second one. It crawled into our garbage can so it was easy to catch. I named it Trash. I caught the last one. It was the mom. I named her Burglar because she was in our refrigerator stealing food. I put her in the cage. We were finished. I was tired. So I went in my room and relaxed. My sister Morgan was still sleeping so I was quiet.A few minutes later my mom came home and asked me, “Where is your dad?” I said, “You have to ask him that.” Then she asked me, “Why are you sweaty?” I didn’t answer. Then I fell asleep dreaming about the raccoons!
