Oversize / Overweight Load Permit Requirements/Restrictions

Please read pages 3 and 4 carefully

Insurance Requirements: The Corporation of the County of Peterborough requires the applicant to provide proof of insurance coverage (attached hereto and forming part of this application), specifically:

1. “Commercial General Liability” insurance for a minimum of $5 million 2. naming the Corporation of the County of Peterborough as an “Additional

Insured” The person or company for whom this permit is issued agrees to hold harmless the Corporation of the County of Peterborough for any damage which may result from the movement of the oversize / overweight load or object, and indemnify the County for any damage caused to County property. The permit holder is responsible to ensure that insurance coverage does not expire during the tenure of this permit and is responsible to apply annually for same.

Gross Vehicle Weights Exceeding 63,500 kg: Permit applications for gross vehicle weights in excess of 63,500 kg are to be submitted 2 weeks prior to the planned move along with a summary of the axle and vehicle loading of the oversize load (Vehicle Configuration Evaluation Sheet). The County may require the applicant to hire a certified structural engineer to evaluate the bridges and culverts identified by the County on the proposed route, and submit the evaluation for approval.

Fees: A fee of $25.00 for a Single Move Permit Standard, $50.00 for a Single Move Permit Express and $250.00 for first vehicle Annual Permit, $25.00 for each additional unit applies to the issuance of Oversize / Overweight Load Permits. Revisions to a Permit are subject to an additional $25.00 charge. Cancellation of a Single Move Permit will not result in a refund.

Submitting a Permit Application: Submit pages 1 and 2 only of permit applications (include insurance certificate and payment details) via email to [email protected] or fax to 705-749-2551 at least 2 business days prior to the move. Single Move Permits required in less than 2 business days of receipt by the County are considered “Express” and subject to a fee of $50.00.

Oversize / Overweight Load Permit Requirements/Restrictions Continued

The applicant is advised that this permit is void on any County roads under the jurisdiction of the Corporation of the County of Peterborough that are under construction at the time of the move. Check the Schedule of Construction for Capital Projects at https://www.ptbocounty.ca/en/living/notices-of-construction.aspx for active projects when planning your route.

The permit holder shall make note of all posted load limitations and ensure no load exceeds that which is posted.

Oversize / overweight loads transported on County roads without posted load limitations shall be subject to M.T.O. permit conditions with regard to axle loading, including seasonal limitations.

The applicant is advised that the Gannons Narrows Bridge (located between County Road 16 and County Road 37) is 4.3 metres high, and the bridge located on County Road 10 north of Highway 115 is 4.4 metres high.

The applicant is advised that there is a roundabout at the intersection of County Road 21 and County Road 28.

The County of Peterborough reserves the right to inspect any load at any time at its sole discretion.

The permit holder:

must contact any affected utility company at least 48 hours prior to the move to arrange for any protection or alteration of their facilities;

is responsible to arrange for personal or police escort, if required;

is responsible for flags/markers on overhanging loads;

is responsible to ensure that any overhead obstructions are clear;

is responsible for checking their proposed route prior to commencing their move to ensure there are no obstructions of any kind;

is solely responsible to ensure that all applicable municipal, provincial and federal laws, regulations and acts shall be complied with at all times, including but not limited to, all employees, owners and sub-contractors utilized by the permit holder.
