Labor and Delivery and Neonatal Intensive Care Units at Hackensack University Medical Center PRESENT Perinatal Loss and Bereavement Training friday, May 19 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Hackensack University Medical Center, Jurist Research Building, 2nd Floor Lecture Hall PURPOSE The purpose of this training is to provide participants with an educational experience that enhances their knowledge, level of skill and personal awareness while providing care to families who experience the loss of a baby. OBJECTIVES Perinatal Loss and Bereavement Training will: • Enhance your understanding of perinatal death and its effect on parents and family members • Provide you with the latest evidence-based information about perinatal bereavement care • Help you understand what “normal” grief looks like and how individuals grieve differently • Discuss the role of interdisciplinary teams in caring for bereaved parents and families • Describe how to offer options to families and therapeutic communication techniques • Provide two examples of honoring the relationship between a parent and child • Discuss the role of keepsakes for a family’s grief • Identify self care strategies for caregivers Continental breakfast and registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Lunch will be provided. Hackensack University Medical Center is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the New Jersey State Nurses Association, an accredited provider by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Hackensack UMC is an established provider of social work CEUs, meeting the requirements set forth by the Board of Social Work Examiners, through our accreditation/affiliation with Seton Hall University.
