PERCEPTION TOWARDS HEALTHY EATING HABITS AMONG STUDENTS IN

FACULTY OF EDUCATION IN UITM SHAH ALAM

Problem Statement

Nowadays, there is inclining in numbers of university students that not make healthy eating

habits as their lifestyle. There are 2 main factor for this problem, which are internal and external

factor. The example of internal factor is individuals that do not ever want to consume any kinds

of vegetables while for external factor is maybe they have financial problem, so in order to save

money, they just eat unhealthy food such as instant noodles.

In other studies (Parker et al., Helman, 1992) found that students’ nutritional knowledge is an

inadequate. Thus, we can understand that they do not always implement healthy eating habits in

their daily life. Students tend to eats fewer fruits and vegetables on a daily basis and report high

intake of high-fat, high-calorie foods (Brevard & Rickett, 1996 ; Driskell, Kim & Goebel, 2005 ;

Racette, Deusinger, Strube, Highstein & Deusinger, 2005). Hence, this study has shown that

most of the students not emphasis on the types of food that they have consumed.

Most of the studies that I have found are conducted from other countries such as United

States, Canada and others but most of them are really differ compared to our country because of

changes in a few of factor such as climate, culture and others. However, there is not much study

that examined healthy eating habits toward university students in a local contact.

Research Questions

1. What are healthy eating habits among students of Faculty Education in Uitm Shah Alam?

2. What is the significant different between healthy eating habits and gender among the

students in Faculty of Education?

3. Is a significant difference between healthy eating habits and Body Mass Index (BMI)

among the students in Faculty of Education?

Research Objective

1. To identify healthy eating habits among the students in Faculty of Education in Uitm

Shah Alam

2. To examine whether is a significant different between healthy eating habits and gender

among the students in Faculty of Education.

3. To examine whether there is a significant different between healthy eating habits and

Body Mass Index (BMI) among the students in Faculty of Education.
