PERCEPTION TOWARDS HEALTHY EATING HABITS AMONG STUDENTS IN
FACULTY OF EDUCATION IN UITM SHAH ALAM
Problem Statement
Nowadays, there is inclining in numbers of university students that not make healthy eating
habits as their lifestyle. There are 2 main factor for this problem, which are internal and external
factor. The example of internal factor is individuals that do not ever want to consume any kinds
of vegetables while for external factor is maybe they have financial problem, so in order to save
money, they just eat unhealthy food such as instant noodles.
In other studies (Parker et al., Helman, 1992) found that students’ nutritional knowledge is an
inadequate. Thus, we can understand that they do not always implement healthy eating habits in
their daily life. Students tend to eats fewer fruits and vegetables on a daily basis and report high
intake of high-fat, high-calorie foods (Brevard & Rickett, 1996 ; Driskell, Kim & Goebel, 2005 ;
Racette, Deusinger, Strube, Highstein & Deusinger, 2005). Hence, this study has shown that
most of the students not emphasis on the types of food that they have consumed.
Most of the studies that I have found are conducted from other countries such as United
States, Canada and others but most of them are really differ compared to our country because of
changes in a few of factor such as climate, culture and others. However, there is not much study
that examined healthy eating habits toward university students in a local contact.
